Sensation made in Gottwaldov, three views on prefabs (podcast)
Sedláček, Marek ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Lovaš, Karol (referee)
This bachelor thesis presents the phenomenon of the construction of prefabricated houses in the territory of the Czech Republic and the life in them. The practical part, which consists of a three-part podcast series, deals with different perspectives on this stage of urbanism. The interviews focus on the history, technology and problematic aspects of building and living in housing estates. They are complemented by excerpts from the media and literature. The theoretical part summarises the history of prefabricated houses in the Czech Republic from the beginnings of construction in the 1950s to the last realisations after 1990. Subchapters provide the historical and political context for each period. Finally, the theoretical part presents the representation of prefabricated houses in Czech and Slovak cinematography.
Townhouse
Machů, Kateřina ; Smola, Jaroslav (referee) ; Ležatka, Lukáš (advisor)
The theme of the diploma project is an architectural study of a new building of a selected town house, defined by Veveří, Pekárenská, Kounicova and Sokolská streets. The thesis also includes the elaboration of the urban study of this block, including the adjacent urban spaces, solved in the pre-diploma project. On the plot in question there is an existing unenclosed block, which is traditional or includes elements typical of the development in this area. These are therefore houses with gabled roofs, traditional historic frontage and largely active ground floor. These existing buildings are set within an otherwise undeveloped area on the site and are not enclosed. There are residential dwellings within the existing block which have commercial uses such as a restaurant, pub, pharmacy, bar, massage parlour, hairdressers on some ground floors. There is also an Albert supermarket in the block. Otherwise, the existing land is more of a construction site. The land is situated close to the centre. Walking distance from the block to the bus stop Česká is about 10 minutes. There is a protected tree in the area named Platan Professor Chudoba. This tree has a buffer zone around it, thus defining the area for the proposed house. I am proposing two enclosed blocks within the study area. One which encloses an existing section of existing houses and a second block which is entirely new. Between these two blocks, I am rebuilding Race Street. This street is currently only accessible from Kounicova Street and is a dead end. I am renewing the street and extending it to Veveří Street, thus dividing the area into two units that are more pleasant in scale and also in scale with the surrounding blocks. The block that I am enclosing with the existing houses will replicate elements of these houses. I am referring to this block as the Traditional Block in working terms. My proposed houses in this traditional block will have a traditional gabled roof and a soft white façade. In the second, completely newly designed block, which I am referring to as the modern block, all the buildings will have flat roofs, some of which will then be fitted with a vegetated roof and the whole building will have a suspended brick façade. My aim is to create a pleasant environment for residents, customers and employees alike. To create interesting and lucrative spaces that will be pleasing to look at and to live in.

NetZero – carbon neutral living in Brno
Osipova, Valentina ; Gebauer, Pavel (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of student housing in the Brno – Západní brána location. The two residential buildings are designed in the concept of carbon neutrality - Net Zero - throughout their life cycle. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to take into account, on the one side, operational carbon, which arises during the actual use of the building and is mainly related to energy consumption during the building's operation, and, on the other side, embodied carbon, which enters the structure before the building is started to be used. The only material reducing the overall carbon footprint is wood, and for that reason Net Zero is difficult to achieve without considering the use of wood as a construction material. Zeroing the carbon footprint in the entire life cycle is only achievable if both of the above principles are followed. The main delaying factor on the way to carbon neutrality for the Czech Republic are the currently valid legislative requirements, especially in the field of fire safety, which do not allow the construction of wooden buildings higher than 12 m fire height. The newly prepared legislation, expected to take effect from mid-2025, should push this limit up to 22.5 m, i.e. to approx. 7 floors. For this reason, the project envisages a wooden supporting structure. The proposal is based on the studio work from the previous semester, where a new urban structure West. Vista. View was designed at Jihlavská street west of the Západní brána tram stop. The overall concept of the urban study takes into account the principles of Net Zero in urban planning, which are a city of short distances, density, orientation to the cardinal points, reduction of car traffic and creating a favorable microclimate. The proposed buildings are six-story residential buildings, where the ground floor houses common student spaces (coworking) and rentable spaces for other services. On the second to fifth above-ground floors, there are maisonette apartments, and on the upper sixth floor – single-floor mini-apartments of a higher standard. The underground floor is dedicated mainly to technical operations. One of the buildings is dealt with in more detailed way as a main theme of the diploma project. It is a corner building located on the local square.
Nexus in Opočno - Transformation of the school campus into a modern inclusive district in accordance with the development directions of the city and the region
Rusiňáková, Katarína ; Františák, Luboš (referee) ; Palacký, Jiří (advisor)
The current appearance of the former high school in Opočno has been unsatisfactory for a long time and has a lot of functional and aesthetic problems. The proposal comprehensively solves the use of the whole area, namely after consultation with the town management and also according to its requirements. The historical and architecturally valuable buildings are supplemented by new habitable buildings, which cultivate the space between them. It also separately deals with the new use of a block of flats. Thanks to that, the abandoned and enclosed area becomes accessible and a living part of the neighborhood. The renovation of the historic building is proposed in more detail, gaining a new function as a small health facility and also major building modifications to the gym. The entire design was developed according to the teachings of the Austrian architect Dietmar Eberle and his book 9x9.
A NEW SPACE FOR LIFE - KROMĚŘÍŽ - LUTOPECKÁ
Chrástová, Lucie ; Marek, Jiří (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
The high demand for housing nowadays carries the potential for creating new architecture and urbanism that will reflect modern society. The city of Kroměříž has been facing with aging of population and leaving of young people for a very long time. However, the city owns a builiding site that could possibly reverse this trend if used correctly. How to fulfill this potential? And how to integrate the new housing complex into the rest of the city?"
Mix/Match Brno
Florková, Vendula ; Rozwalka, Szymon (referee) ; Toman, Radek (advisor)
The work The Same Place deals with the issue of social and commercial housing in the statutory city of Brno, which is affected by rising housing prices, the limited resources of the city to regulate them, and the expansion of the group of residents at risk of homelessness. The aim of the thesis was to create a sustainable concept of social housing that would reduce the problem of segregation of residents, would help the inclusion of social groups and would also contribute to the maintenance of the city's housing stock. The title of the thesis Same Place can be interpreted in two senses. The first is that people in social need are gathered in the same place. And the second - the coexistence of different social groups in the same place, which is the concept I am trying to achieve. The concept is then applied to a plot of land located on Hlinky Street, with the intention of demonstrating the possibility of combining social and commercial housing into a single apartment building.
Mix/Match
Hauke, Adriana ; Palaščak, Michal (referee) ; Manton, Ryan (advisor)
The project is centered around architectural design of a mixed-use building primarily tailored for residential purposes, with a specific focus on student accommodation. This decision is grounded in a thorough analysis of the surrounding area. I am proposing a design that integrates tennis club already existing on the site while introducing new functional elements. These include a café/bar, study spaces, interior sport hall with a padel court and a hostel. One of the tennis courts is on the ground and one is on a roof of the building. In my proposal, I am opening the site more to the public, allowing anyone to enjoy the views and atmosphere it offers, thereby creating a place for a community.
Nexus in Opočno - Transformation of the school campus into a modern inclusive district in accordance with the development directions of the city and the region
Březová, Zuzana ; Františák, Luboš (referee) ; Palacký, Jiří (advisor)
The main goal of the bachelor's thesis was to propose a new use for the premises of the former high school in Opočno. Currently, the area is used only minimally and in this state does not have the potential to be integrated into the running of the city. In the proposal, I would like to make the area accessible to the public and at the same time create the possibility of greater housing variability in Opočno, which I want to achieve by integrating the new structure into the urban environment.
