Benjamin Košut - the life and work of an evangelical pastor
Sedliský, Filip ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
The work deals with the life and work of the evangelical pastor Benjamin Košut (1822-1898). Košut served at the congregation in Borová, Velenice, but mainly at St. Clement's in Prague. During his service in Prague, he contributed to the periodical Českobratrský hlas, of which he was also responsible editor. At this time, among other things, he took part in a dispute with his opponents, who were inclined towards the neo- Calvinist approach to the reformed faith. Košut was suspended for his views and had to defend himself in disciplinary proceedings. During the proceedings, he was found guilty, but after signing a written undertaking, he was allowed to return to his pastoral activity. Košut is in many ways an interesting personality. He had a thoroughly rationalistic approach to faith, he was not afraid to break certain dogmas. He saw God as a loving fatherly figure who considers people his children, rejecting the completely negative anthropology of orthodox Calvinism. For Košut, Jan Hus was a great inspiration and probably the greatest personality of the Czech reformation, to whom he dedicated many sermons full of admiration. Košut's Christianity was also very patriotic. The work is based to a lesser extent on secondary literature, but also mainly on the analysis of primary sources. It contains an...

SCHWARZ, Jan
This bachelor thesis deals with the relationship of Adam Franz of Schwarzenberg towards the saint John of Nepomuk. Its main focus lies particularly on the role of the saint in the nobleman's mentality and how it influenced his expressions of piety. It puts emphasis on the form of the Schwarzenberg domain under the influence of the Nepomucean cult. The author analyses the causes and consequences of Schwarzenberg's intimate relationship towards the mentioned saint, which was fully demonstrated during the festivity of the saint's canonisation, to which the author gave a thorough attention. This bachelor thesis doesn't focus only at a concrete noble individual but tries to capture the collective mentality of the baroque man, shaped especially by his religious experiences.

History of Římov pilgrimage site
ŠRUBAŘ, Štěpán
The thesis describes the history of the foundation of pilgrimage site Římov in southern Bohemia in the 17th century that could be build thanks to a donation of the local farm to the Jesuit College in Krumlov. The most significant proponents were a Capuchin monk Alex and a Jesuit lay brother John Gurre. The area consists of a chapel built in close resemblance to the Italian model of Holy House in Loreto and a Way of Sorrows designed as a copy of the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. The work shows the significance of sacred architecture in the life of Christians in the 17th century. The role of fraternities and Marian spirituality in traditional piety of Catholics of that period is also mentioned. Based on the regular annual reports sent by every Jesuit College, unusual events accompanying the first decades of the shrine as well as the economic issues of the Jesuit residence are described.

Preaching Style of Jaroslav Pleva
Kucová, Hana ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Holanová, Radka (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with distinctiveness in the style of preaching of Jaroslav Pleva, a Baptist preacher, on the basis of analysis of his preaching. This distinctiveness is realized through his use of language and style devices, and text structure. The final form of the discourse is influenced by its function and objective style factors. What mainly determines the structure of Pleva's texts to a considerable extent is a spoken form of the discourse. His code choice switching between standard and non-standard code, the official character of the discourse and its place and time given by the tradition are all very important; moreover, it is the addressee who represents the crucial factor of the preaching. The analysis of subjective style factors is also included. Intertextuality is typical for the genre of preaching, primarily following the biblical texts of the Old and New Testament. According to the variety of texts the motifs are diverse. Figurative speech, mostly originated in biblical texts, is used plentifully. Pleva uses these intentionally chosen devices to present his thoughts to his listeners and fulfil a persuasive function of a genre of preaching.
