The Use of McKenzie Approach in the Therapy of low Back Pain.
Štičková, Zuzana ; Muchová, Renáta (advisor) ; Táborská, Silvie (referee)
Title of thesis The Use of McKenzie Approach in the Therapy of Low Back Pain. Abstract: The present thesis addresses the issue of treatment of low back pain and in this respect considers the effectiveness of the McKenzie method. The first sections of the theoretical part of this thesis are focused on the kinesiology and pathology of the components of the lumbar spine. Further sections explain the principles of the mechanical diagnosis and therapy, i.e. the McKenzie method. Their focus is to present the specific features and advantages of this approach. The aim of the practical part is to assess the effectiveness of the McKenzie method in patients with chronic low back pain whose previous treatment had no or only a short term effect. Qualitative research based on three case studies has been chosen to achieve this aim. By assessing and comparing both subjective parameters (e.g. the intensity, distribution and frequency of pain) and objective parameters (e.g. the range of motion, neurological symptoms) before and after the treatment by the McKenzie method, its effectiveness for the use in therapy of chronic low back pain was determined. The results testify in favour of the McKenzie method as a convenient approach in treating patients with this diagnosis. Key words: McKenzie, mechanical diagnosis and therapy,...
Educational Concepts of the Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy. Subtitle: Comparison of Education at Charles University in Prague - the First Faculty of Medicine and Facultad de Medicina, Universidad CEU San Pablo
Dvořáčková, Terezie ; Sládková, Petra (advisor) ; Muchová, Renáta (referee)
Name: Terezie Dvořáčková Supervisor: MUDr. Bc. Petra Sládková, Ph. D. Opponent: Title: Educational Concepts of the Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy This thesis compares educational concepts of the Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy in the Czech Republic and in Spain, particularly at Charles University in Prague - the First Faculty of Medicine and Facultad de Medicina, Universidad San Pablo, Centro de Estudios Universitarios. The differences are identified by a quantitative and qualitative comparative method. Mainly the second semestr of the first year of the degree was evaluated, the work is focused generally on practical skills of a physiotherapy student. The context of the studies in both countries was summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of both educational concepts were specified. The main implication of this work is an insight to the training of physiotherapists abroad, which could be a starting point to a reevaluation of the current system of education in Physiotherapy in the Czech Republic. Keywords: physiotherapy, education, concept, bachelor's degree
Kinesiological Bases of Ancient and Present Rehabilitation Medical Practices
Gál, Ota ; Muchová, Renáta (advisor) ; Pfeiffer, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with kinesiological conceptions of Galen of Pergamum and present day science, which it examines from the pespective of philosophical hermeneutics. The research question of the thesis is following: Is there a conception of man and movement in the writings of ancient doctors especially of Galen which can enrich present scientific positions? And the hypothesis is that ancient kinesiology is able to inspire present rehabilitation medical practices and ordinary clinical praxis supports this. Chapters 2.1 to 2.3 sketch out Galen's physical basis, where he follows Aristotele, his psychology, massively influenced by Plato, and therapeutics that belongs to hippocratian tradition. The outcome of these chapters is the teleological character of motion, it's therapeutical as well as originary link to soul and holistic conception of man. Chapters 3.1 to 3.3 analyze corelatively the kinesiological basis of present day science. It is based on biomechanics, genetic conceptions and neurophysiology and understands health and disease through bio-psycho-social prism. Chapter 3.3 is coupled with a short overview of present day therapy with balls. Chapter 4 compares both conceptions searching for functional analogies of their structural elements and focuses on the problem of purpose, possibility of initiation...
Postural changes in hereditary polyoneuropathies, treatment possibilites by use of physiotherapy methods
Nevšímalová, Vladana ; Vinciková, Lenka (advisor) ; Muchová, Renáta (referee)
BAKALÁŘSKÉ PRÁCE Jméno: Vladana Nevšímalová Vedoucí práce: Mgr. Vinciková Lenka Oponent práce: Název bakalářské práce: Postural changes in hereditary polyneropathy - treatment possibilities by use of the physiotherapy methods Abstract: Hereditary neuropathy is a clinically and genetically heterogenous group of diseases which most often represent a hereditary neromuscular disorder. The prevalence is approximately 17- 40 per 100 000. The most frequent form is called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) or hereditary motor and sensitive neuropathy (HMSN). In most cases, the clinical symptoms appear in the 1. and 2. decade and include atrophy and weakness of lower limb muscles (peroneal athrophy), the pes cavus deformity of the foot with a shortened Achilles tendr, areflexia in the lower limbs and the stocking type sensory disorder. Patient`s difficulties are demonstrated in four basic fields: muscle limb weakness, gait failure deformity of the foot, lower desterity of the limbs, sensitivity defect (pins and needles, a lack of sensation, pain). By sensomotoric stimulation (specific trainings on balance surface) is possible to maintain the best quality of movements and stableness in standing and gait and at the same time to cause preventively on co-ocurring articulation and spinal pains. Sensomotoric...
Physiotherapy after soft tissue injuries of the ankle joint
Weissová, Marie ; Muchová, Renáta (advisor) ; Nováková, Petra (referee)
My bachelor thesis focuses on physiotherapy after soft tissue injuries of the ankle joint. This type of injury can affect both athletes as well as regular population during their daily activities. In the theoretical part of my thesis I discuss the anatomy of the ankle joint, specifically, its soft tissue; ligaments and muscles. Furthermore, I discuss kinesiology of the ankle joint and traumatology of the ankle joint's soft tissue. I particularly focus on the mechanisms of emergency of the injuries and majority of the injured structures. Included as well is a section on the instability of the ankle joint which is the focus of the practical part of my thesis. The practical part of my thesis contains two case studies where physiotherapy was applied, in particular, sensomotoric stimulation and spiral dynamic which are techniques suited to treatment of this type of injury. I explore their effectiveness. I have also included a description of these methods as well as tests examining the instability of the ankle joint. Both case studies examine patients who were injured more than two months ago and struggle with ankle joint instability, which is typical for this type of injury. The objective assesment of my therapy should be the measures on footscan. Key words: ankle joint, instability of the ankle joint,...
The use of physiotherapeutical methods and procedures in paraplegic patients. Verticalisation and gait
Beránková, Michaela ; Muchová, Renáta (advisor) ; Pitrmanová, Věra (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the usage of physiotherapeutical methods and procedures in the therapy of patients with paraplegia. In the theoretical part I described shortly the anatomy and the etiology, consequences and clinical picture of the spinal cord injury. I also described the examination procedures and most of all complications that can most often occur after the spinal cord injury. The practical part is aimed at the possibilities of complex physiotherapy in the therapy of patients with spinal injury. Therewith the accent is set on the possibilities of verticalisation and gait in paraplegic patients. I'm detailing not just the verticalisation and gait possibilities, but also all sorts of instruments and gadgets that make this part of physiotherapy easier for patients. In this thesis there is short casuistry of patient with traumatic spine and spinal cord injury on the level of Th10 and Th11.
