Bitter Moon - The transformation of gender identity ( directed by Roman Polanski)

The thesis deals with gender analysis in films studying metamorphoses of archetypes in film Bitter Moon directed by Roman Polanski. The methodical and theoretical sections of the thesis analyse the influence of archetype changes of film characters in gender roles. The thesis identifies and analyses mainly woman film characters appearing in some classical feminist texts, feminist film theoretical and critical articles, in some psychoanalytical works, in dramatheraphy and film science. The sources mentioned above became primary resource materials for our archetypal research. The analysis of each of the film character is focused on the most distinctive archetype with respect to its metamorphosy. Apart from the archetype research the thesis is marginaly concerned with problems linked to the female ideal and her sexuality usually portrayed in an unalterable way, and archetypal patterns are in such a way transmitted to audiences through femininity and masculinity in the context of gender roles. Compare of the czech sitcom production with foreign countries

The aim of the thesis "Comparison of the Czech sitcom production with foreign countries" is to define the sitcom characteristics, Outline its history in the three countries, The United States of America, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (hereinafter only as USA and GB) and the Czech Republic, describe production in our country, with subsequent comparison with other countries and finally to provide an answer for the question: " Why is not the Czech sitcom production of the same quality as abroad, especially as in The USA and GB?" The result is a summary of the differences between Czech and foreign sitcom productions. Meanwhile it provides an answer for the question possessed in the begining. The differences lie mainly in the orientation of the actors, their teams and schools in each country. In the Czech Republic, attention is focused primarily on theatrical play or film, and work around it. Other differences lie in financial sphere and and a lack of experience. Yet it is evident that Czech sitcoms have potential in the future. Also to some unsuccessful sitcoms that we have been able to see on television.

The aim of the submitted thesis "TV show Ulice (The Street) as the first Czech daily Soap opera is to analyze TV Nova's daily series Ulice. The first part of the thesis defines soap opera as a genre, it's history, development and definition. It defines characteristic elements of genre. Then the thesis concerns with TV show Ulice. It describes creation of the show, production, environment and characters of the show. Ulice is compared with British shows Coronation Street and EastEnders throughout the thesis.
Watching medical dramas by professonal medical stuff

The purpose of my thesis is to analyse watching medical dramas by professional medical stuff. This thesis is composed of eight chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of medical dramas and audiences. Chapter one is introductory describes the influence of media on society. Chapter two is focused on the relation of media and audience. The chapter consists of five parts. Part one focuses on the definition of audience. Part two talks about randomly and purposely aggregated audiences. Part three addresses the issue of communication activity of audience. Part four investigates the relation between media and audiences. Part five describes four stadiums of evolution of audience. Chapter three is subdivided into four parts and characterizes analytical approaches to audience and analysis of audience. Part one looks at behavioural structural approach. Part two focuses on structural approach. Part three talks about cultural approach. Part four focuses on analysis of audience. Chapter four concentrates on the topic of fandom. This chapter is divided into six parts. In the first one I talk about fans in basic. The second part defines the term "fan" and third part defines "fandom". The analysis of communication of campaigns against smoking

The content of the Diploma "Analysis of Communication Anti-Smoking Campaigns" is firstly the introduction of the issue of social campaigns, its marketing principle and also important elements and aspects which are typical for these campaigns. There is also the presentation of tobacco policy in the Czech Republic and the environment in which we operate. Another important part of the Diploma shows the specific anti-tobacco campaigns and projects that have been realized both in the Czech Republic and the other states and presents analysis of their communication and the key elements and forms which are used in campaigns. Then there is presented a research, which was conducted through a questionnaire and which was answered by 256 respondents. Its main objective was to determine the attitudes and opinions of Czech public towards antismoking policies, their personal experience with specific campaigns and also the perception of policy and consumption of tobacco in the country. Many interesting results emerged from the research. Most of the respondents do not consider anti- smoking policy in the Czech Republic too intense, they also do not trust the effects of anti- smoking campaigns, and they would appreciate harsher and more naturalistic advertising and stricter rules on the use of tobacco and cigarettes.
Social Identity Construction of Exclusive Women's Magazines Readers

This thesis examines how exclusive women's magazines readers approach the category of luxury, their relationship with products announced in these magazines and whether the feeling of luxury, aroused by such magazines, is affiliated with a certain social class. This thesis also focuses on question whether these readers regard physisal atractiveness as a sign of social status. The theoretical part of this thesis describes several concepts which are important in the context of media studies: social constructivism, the process of understanding media effects, the conception of uses and gratification and the role of mass media in the socialization process. This part further elaborates on exclusive women's magazines, conceptions of lifestyle, luxury, fashion and its importance for identity construction. The methodological part introduces the methodology of the analysis and the analysis itself. The sample used for this analysis was composed of ten respondents which were subjected to an in-depth interview. Each interview also included reception analysis. The following chapters describe the results of this analysis.
Citizen journalism - an alternative form of civic participation in creation of on-line media content

The key approach of this thesis is to define closer discourse and importance of civic engagement in the media from the point of view of journalistic practice. This study examines trends of citizen journalism and community media that support active citizen participation and contribute to diversity of media content. The vision of traditional journalism disruption and enforcement of news agenda focusing on public interest became the key message of alternative media. The first two chapters concentrate on the origins of public interest involvement in the history of media discourse. They also highlight the alternative journalism characteristics, its current typology and the role of citizens supporting the concept of media democratization. They also specify the character of transformation of on-line professional journalism and its relationship to user-generated content in journalistic practices. Further four chapters determine specific demonstrations of citizen engagement in public media space and its concepts - public journalism, citizen journalism and community media. Media image of women's beauty in ELLE magazine

This thesis focuses on the ways of depicting female beauty in ELLE magazine. In the theoretical part, the concept of beauty is defined and the development of the ideal of beauty and the influence of the media on people are described. The attitudes and research on beauty in the media are mentioned and primarily the emphasis is put on depiction of female beauty in the media. The reasons for women accepting the ideal of beauty presented by the media, the real nature of beauty in the media and the possible influence on women's self-esteem are dealt with, as well. The thesis also introduces the development of female magazines and their current role on the Czech market. At the end of the thesis, the campaigns aiming at unreal ideal of beauty in the media are critically evaluated. Mixed research method is used in the thesis; by means of the content analysis the photos of women (in advertisements as well as other pictures) are investigated with emphasis on their characteristics and in connection with the topic of the articles. The semiotic analysis examines the front pages and the message they convey. The aim of the analysis was to determine the most frequent depiction of women and to establish the proportion of articles dealing with appearance.
The identity construction of teenage girls in internet media and magazines

Diploma thesis "The Identity Construction of Teenage Girls in Internet Media and Magazines" deals with media texts which are being addressed to teenage girls; with a special attention to three significant media types of this area of concern. These are represented by the magazine Bravo Girl!, the blog dominikamyslivcova.cz and the website jenproholky.cz. The aim of the thesis is to describe and analyze these texts in detail; e.g. in the areas which are characteristic for them and could represent an element of high importance in the process of constructing the living reality of their recipients. The thesis also assumes how media could participate on their identity construction; their recognized values, opinions, thinking and lifestyle. Not only the thesis is concerned with the production of these specific texts and their features, it also focuses on the character of the interaction these media initiate towards the audience. It also tends to describe the receptive process the members of audience perform and how they react back, towards the media. To fulfill this goal, the pragmalinguistic analysis of the language features and communication strategies was used. Ordinary people in the area of media constructed reality (reality show Prostřeno)

The aim of the thesis is to understand the behaviour affected by social distinction contained in the environment and conversations of participants of a reality television show. The current media scene is flooded with reality television shows, which in numbers never seen before, uses sections of various media consumers for its own purposes. The basis for the work was the concept of Demotic Turn of Ordinary People, ie those groups of consumers of media content who are not considered to be experts or celebrities and are not deemed to be interesting by the media or engaged in the media, and during the program they enter into a media-constructed reality. Using analytical concepts in examining lifestyles and class distinction, I qualitatively analyzed the content of a selected sample of the reality television show Prostřeno! I used the principles of grounded theory and on the theories based on the work by Pierre Bourdieu. The theoretical part is focused on the concept of class and habitat. For all classes there is a common lifestyle that the people in these classes present to the world around them.
