Leaching from slags and fly ashes from nickel metalurgy (Niquelandia and Barro Alto, Brasil)
Kvapil, Jindřich
Slag and fly ash originating from processing lateritic Ni-ore in the districts of Niquelândia and Barro Alto in Brazil are enriched with potentially toxic elements (PTEs). Higher contents of Ni and Co were observed in case of the fly ash (25 g/kg and 462 mg/kg, respectively), whereas higher concentration of Cr was observed in the slag (7, 58 g/kg). Mineralogical investigations indicate that slag mainly consists of olivine, pyroxene and glassy matrix. High content of glass corresponds to the product of quenching of slag melt in water basins during granulation. In contrast, the fly ash was mineralogically more complex with olivine, pyroxene, glassy phase and partly dehydrated serpentine phase, spinel, SiO2 and the furnace feed residues. Contaminant leaching was highly pH-dependent with the highest releases of PTEs from the fly ash at pH 3: up to 5, 42 g/kg Ni, 112 mg/kg Co and 4, 3 mg/kg Zn. Slag was significantly more stabile; only 47,9 mg/kg Ni was released at pH 3, but compared to the fly ash higher release of Cr was reported (up to 25.6 mg/kg). Towards alkaline conditions, the leachability of PTEs significantly decreases. Based on physic-chemical parameters of leachates, theoretical speciation of elements and saturation indices for selected solubility-controlling phases were calculated by...
Separatism in the perspective of Indonesian neo-imperialism
Kvapil, Jakub ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Landovský, Jakub (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is focused on the theme of two cases of secesionist movements on the territory of Indonesia, particulary on Aceh and East Timor. These liberational movements in both regions evolve their activities in different historical, cultural, ethnical, religional and political background. It is common to both of them though, that they are trying to attain independence, which in case of East Timor is eventually reached, not so in Aceh. This is why this thesis is comparing the key elements of both of the movements and is trying to clarify the most important aspects of their actions. The thesis is composed of two parts, first of them focusing on documentation of the history of Indonesia, being the main actor, whose political evolution is determining for both chosen regions. The historical development and political environment of both of these regions is documented here as well. In the second part a comparission using the research questions is made to clarify the most important differences and similarities of both cases.
Mobility of chromium and nickel in naturally contaminated soils
Kvapil, Jindřich ; Ettler, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Vaněk, Aleš (referee)
Soils developed on ultramafic rocks are relatively rich in trace elements, e.g. Cr, Co and Ni. Soils studied here and developed on serpentinites in the southern Bohemia exhibit high concentrations of these elements with up to several thousands mg/kg. Particularly soils with high Ni concentrations host specific vegetation and are are poor in nutrients. In this thesis we sampled two soil profiles located in the vicinity of closed Ni mining near Křemže in the southern Bohemia. Analyses of physicochemical parameters of soils, total concentrations of elements and their extractability using EDTA targeting "bioavailable" fraction were carried out. Concentrations of studied elements were the following: 27,1 - 423 mg Co/kg, 90,3 - 1190 mg Cr/kg, 170 - 4950 mg Ni/kg. Concentrations of Ni, Co and Cr significantly correlated with Fe (R2= 0.76-0.99) and were higher for agricultural soil profile with an increase as a function of depth. Maximum "bioavailable" concentrations were 47.6 mg Co/kg, 2.95 mg Cr/kg and 163 mg Ni/kg. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Catholic song-propaganda in the Czech lands
Kvapil, Jan ; Stromšík, Jiří (advisor) ; Petrbok, Václav (referee) ; Kurzke, Hermann (referee)
The Dissertation considers the Catholic song propaganda of the early modern times. Its research is based on Bohemian literate and musical sources. The basic methods of the song-propaganda were actually invented by Protestants. The Catholic reformers were able to react to its influence through their own song-propaganda (for instance Leisentrit and Jesuits) and modernized and developed their own new methods with just a minute delay. The song-propaganda was an outstanding device for indoctrinating common people anyway because of their analphabetism. The main attention was focused on persuasive methods used in the songpropaganda by Catholic missionaries. These methods can be classified as follows: The repetitive method was the simplest one based on a simple reproduction of fundamental Christian texts (Lord's Prayer, Credo, Ave), religious dogmas (purgatory, confession, communion) and ideological doctrines (singularity of the Catholic Church) in a musical form. It was mainly applied in the catechesis. The songs inspired by this method were mainly addressed to children and youth. The exemplary method gives either positive or negative example people should or should not follow. These songs narrated mostly a life of a exemplary saint. They were very popular among children and therefore applied in catechesis. A more...
Thermal Contact Resistance Under High Temperature
Kvapil, Jiří ; Návrat, Tomáš (referee) ; Brestovič, Tomáš (referee) ; Horský, Jaroslav (advisor)
Nowadays numerical simulations are used to optimize manufacturing process. These numerical simulations need a large amount of input parameters and some of these parameters have not been sufficiently described. One of this parameter is thermal contact resistance, which is not sufficiently described for high temperatures and high contact pressure. This work describes experimental measuring of thermal contact resistance and how to determine thermal contact conductance which can be used as a boundary condition for numerical simulations. An Experimental device was built in Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Laboratory, part of Brno University of Technology, and can be used for measuring thermal contact conductance in various conditions, such as contact pressure, initial temperatures of bodies in contact, type of material, surface roughness, presence of scales on the contact surface. Bodies in contact are marked as a sensor and a sample, both are embedded with thermocouples. The temperature history of bodies during an experiment is measured by thermocouples and then used to estimate time dependent values of thermal contact conductance by an inverse heat conduction calculation. Results are summarized and the dependence of thermal contact conductance in various conditions is described.

Web Application Based on ASP.NET MVC 3/Razor Framework
Kvapil, Jiří ; Svoboda, Pavel (referee) ; Kajan, Rudolf (advisor)
The main goal of this bachelor's thesis was to create web application based on the ASP.NET MVC 3/Razor framework and several other modern web technologies. The application deals with issues in communication between graphic designer and client. In this text you can find an analysis of existing solutions, design and implementation of the application itself. Possible extensions for this project are sugested at the end of the text.
Web Application for Affective Communication between Client and Designer
Kvapil, Jiří ; Skála, František (referee) ; Szőke, Igor (advisor)
The main goal of the master's thesis is to create the web application for effective communication between a client and a designer. The application was tested on a sufficient number of users and it has been modified according to results of performed tests. The text includes future possibilities of development, evaluation of achieved results, analysis of requirements, design, implementation and testing.
