The "peregrinatio academica" Phenomenon as a topic of modern Middle-European Historiography: An Example of Czech and Moravian Students at Selected Calvinist Education Institutions (1575-1620)
Píš, Ondřej ; Ďurčanský, Marek (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to present the phenomenon of academic peregrination from several points of view. It is first outlined as a specific topic of Czech historiography, which has been processed since the second half of the 19th century. Emphasis is placed on current research in a Central European perspective. Database projects that represent the current trend in the study of academic peregrination are presented in more details in the thesis. A separate part consists of a case study dealing with Czech and Moravian students at selected reformed institutes in the period 1575-1620. Detailed research was carried out on five institutes in present-day Germany and Switzerland - the universities of Basel, Heidelberg and Marburg, and the academies in Herborn and Geneva. The edited matrices of these institutions have become the main source of this part of the presented work. The student lists used so far proved to be insufficient and gap-free for the analysis. The work includes the updated and formally unified lists of Czech and Moravian students at selected schools in the selected period. The social origin of students in observed was also analyzed. Attention was also paid to trends in education at reformed schools and differences in Czech and Moravian academic peregrination. Key words Academic...

CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL ANTHROPOLOGY BY MGR. BC. DZMITRY BADZEVICH THE PEASANTS OF THE POLESIE DURING THE ABOLITION OF SERFDOM The Reaction of the Peasantry To The Abolition Of Serfdom In Pinsk District Of Minsk Province of Russian Empire, 1861-1864 Dissertation abstract Prague 2017 2 ABSTRACT From the exact wording of the thesis title was this study engaged in a broader sociological and cultural anthropological discussion about the meanings and implications of the historical event as was the abolition of serfdom in the Russian empire in 1861 on the everyday life of its contemporary actors. For well-devoted reader (in the different methodologies of the history and European national historiographies), it would seem that the topic of the abolition of serfdom in the Russian empire and its impact on society and social and cultural sphere is largely explored. But at the moment, when the critically analyzing readers begin to think closely about how the understanding of serfdom abolition has worked during the last hundred year, it might be quite obvious for them, that no one of dozen university intellectuals and amateurs has tried to go to the heart of the historical event; many intellectuals only got all mixing up on the field of quasi-scientific abstractive terms...
Municipal administration and offices in the Middle Elbe region during the Thirty Years' War
Ďurčanský, Marek ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čornejová, Ivana (referee) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
The operation of municipal offices and municipal administration in general was not a too popular topic in Czech historiography. Even this aspect of the life of Czech towns was strongly influenced by the persecution of Czech estates after the battle on the White Mountain and following processes with the gravity centre in the third decade of the 17th century, as well as by the direct and indirect consequences of military actions. Research in such area can also enrich our knowledge of many aspects of contemporary city life and contribute to a better explanation of such consequential phenomena as emigration and recatholicization. The municipal councils and municipal offices can often be named as nervus rerum in these circumstances. To elaborate the problems of military influences on administration in the times of the Thirty Years' War fully is not possible without more detailed studies about the situation of particular municipal offices. This kind of research would enable us to compare several regions. But there is a lack of such studies. The way out can be found by using proper surveys of the situation of several towns. Such probes would outline basic tendencies and phenomena, or the key questions for the subsequent research, such as: a) the extent and structure of the bodies of municipal administration and...
Chapters from old history of libraries in Kolín and its surrounding
Jouzová, Miroslava ; Hlaváček, Ivan (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee) ; Ryantová, Marie (referee)
The work gives a detailed presentation about occurrence of manuscripts as well as printed books and libraries in Kolín and its surrounding since the establishment of the town until the 18th century, if records about them were preserved, or they exist till now. Only a few records concerning the library culture were preserved from the early history of Kolín. Manuscripts were found in Dominican Monastery. Despite the first mentioning of separate books only in the 14th century, we may assume them already earlier - it concerns mainly donations of books to some altars of the Saint. Bartholomew's Church in Kolín. Richer occurrence is only recorded in the 16th century when we already have quotations of specific book titles in the records of Kolín burghers, or their private libraries are mentioned here. At his time books are not only copied in Kolín but also written; authors are burghers or local dean. 17th century then brings a message about a library on the Kolín presbytery, private libraries of Kolín deans and libraries of newly established monasteries in Kolín and Zásmuky. 18th century is not abundant in records about libraries because a book becomes an expensive property, its value goes down and records of Kolín burghers include descriptions of the library only rarely.

Mikulová, Soňa ; Pešek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pelánová, Anita (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to understand how the Nazis used and subordinated art to their power. It was necessary to concentrate the focus of this study on a specific region of the Third Reich. The choice of Düsseldorf as a frame for cultural-political studies of the years 1933-1945 was made because the city had been a cultural centre since the 18. century and it was a home of many famous artists, such as Heinrich Heine, Robert and Clara Schumann and Felix Mendelsohn-Bartholdy. Korbel, Tomáš ; Pešek, Jiří (advisor) ; Petrasová, Taťána (referee) ; Svobodný, Petr (referee)
This work aims to contribute to the research of Czech elites of the 19th century and to write up the hitherto neglected topic of professional and social rise of Czech architects and builders in the 19th century. At this time, as a result of state reforms of the educational, administrative and legal system, the professional perception and social status of this class changed. In the introduction, architects and builders are included in the process of modernization of the construction industry and defined on the basis of their relationship to art, engineering and business. Subsequently, architects and builders are defined as a socio-professional group that has reached a certain degree of professionalism during this period. Thus, two levels intersect in the work - general and personal. In general, the interconnection of construction education, law and administration since the establishment of construction disciplines at...
