Prokop, Daniel ; Jonáková, Anna (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyze works of contemporary czech prose-writer Miloš Urban and response of literary critics to Urban's novels. The papers are focused on three novels, in particular: Sedmikostelí (1999), Stín katedrály (2003) and Santiniho jazyk (2005). Gothic and gothic-baroque architecture play essential role in all of them, so they are defined as "architectural trilogy". The thesis distinguish two components of Urbans postmodern novels: high-art and low-art. The aim of the study is to analyze both of them. The high-art component of Urban's novels is a dualism of racionality and iracionaility, modern and traditional society. The low-art component of his work is a brutality, a violence and homicedes. Two central reviewers hypotheses are presented and discussed: a) the philosophy of Urban's novels is just a postmodern mystification, b) the fuction of the low-art component is taken from horror and detective stories. Fílová, Tereza ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Jonáková, Anna (referee)
The Odeon Publishing House has long been connected with high book culture in Czech literary history. The name Odeon itself has a long pedigree in Czechoslovakia, and dates back to the nineteen twenties, when it fi rst appeared as the name of Fromek's publishing house. It ranked, both by volume of sales and by the high quality of its publications from both Czech and foreign authors among the abso lute top in Czechoslovakian culture till the early nineties. The nineties brought for Odeon a short interruption of its publishing, and in fact a suspension of all its activities, in consequence of the socioeconomic changes at that time. The mark Odeon again became synonymous with the highest quality book production when the Euromedia Group company acquired the Odeon mark in 1999 and once again began publishing books under this famous and prestigious mark. The editorial policy of Odeon publishing since 1953 has comprised the broad literary genre from the antiquities until the present day, with the dominance of translation literature, next the literary historical works and the theory of fine art, belles-lettres and aesthethics and also the...
