Gender roles in fairy tales
Lechnýřová, Lucie ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Francová, Veronika (referee)
Fairy tales have an educational and socialization impact on children. In fairy tales children find answers to questions, problems and situations, that life brings them. Fairy tales reflect true life - people come into the world, fall ill, die, get poorer, steal, get jealous, love and hate to death and they are willing to lay down their life for helping others. A child feels genuineness of story, finds something what it had experienced itself. Children identify themselves with fairy tale characters and their characteristics, heroes of stories are their models. So naturally children create their hierarchy of values, because moral message of fairy tales is clear and that is its advantage for children. Fairy tales interfere in all aspects of life and education. One of the aspects is the area of gender. In my research I presented the children a traditional fairy tale and less traditional fairy tale, where male and female roles are reversed. The aim of the research was to find out how boys and girls perceive the division of roles in fairy tales. I led structured interviews with children and compared the collected data with the gathered theoretical information.
Career choice in adolescence: role of gender stereotypes and identification with mathematics
Louda, Petr ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Rendl, Miroslav (referee)
Career choice in education and the acquired/achieved level of education are factors that influence social status of men and women. Despite the fact that women, on average, currently achieve a higher level of education than men, women's marketplace status and their height of salary often do not correspond to it. One of the reasons is a low proportion of women in mathematics-related subjects. The aim of this research was to investigate the role of gender stereotypes and identification with mathematics in career choice. In the theoretical part of this thesis, I introduce the basic terms related to gender and gender stereotypes, the role gender plays in institutions and the potential causes of gender differences in the performance in mathematics. In the empirical part, I analyse data from a questionnaire study investigating career choice, level of identification with mathematics, attitudes to courses in the curriculum and the level of gender stereotypes in Czech adolescents. The results suggest few differences between girls and boys in these areas. However, the level of identification with mathematics and the level of gender stereotypes in the career area are related to the educational career choice.
Mothers and fathers in the comunication with the school
Čašková, Barbora ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Viktorová, Ida (referee)
The aim of this work is to describe communication between school and mothers and fathers. The first part of the work is a treatise about what has been so far found out about possibilities of communication, structures of relationships and circumstances affecting the relationships between parents and school. Besides that, the work shows models categorizing forms of relationships, and evaluation of optimal relations between school and parents. The work also focuses on gender, mainly on gender of parents, and its influence on forms of communication. Although studies focused on school communication usually use the term "parents" it is women - mothers who have dominant representation. This paper shows in which cases fathers communicate and how it is perceived (mainly by teachers). The theoretical part is followed by presentation of authors own empirical research. It is a case study focused on communication between mothers and fathers and school from the perspective of both parents and teachers. The study was carried out at a Prague grammar school and is based on processing questionnaires that were filled out by both teachers (15 forms) and parents (145 forms). In the study, several fields of communication are observed, mainly frequency, means and themes of communication, its general evaluation,...
Vulgarity of adolescents and its motivation
Hozáková, Veronika ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Strejčková, Helena (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to map the motivations of girls and boys which lead them to act in a vulgar way and be vulgar. The second objective is to find out whether their motivations differ or not and how the non-vulgar pupils see their vulgar colleagues and which motivations of vulgar behavior they see themselves. Research sample consists of elementary school pupils (girls & boys) from two ninth grade classes. Engaged observation, questionnaire and focus groups were used research methods. Acting in a vulgar way brings both positives and negatives to the individuals. In the period of adolescents, the most used vulgarisms are the ones with social function, but psychohygienic function remains very important for the individuals as well. At this age, individuals are strongly influenced by peers who act as both opinion and expression leaders.

Teacher Burnout and Coping Strategies
Vondrová, Eliška ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Pavlas Martanová, Veronika (referee)
The purpose of the present study is firstly to investigate the problem of burnout among primary and secondary school teachers in the Czech Republic, secondly to explore the use of coping strategies against the occupational stress and burnout. According to many studies, burnout may be the result of unrelenting long lasting stress (Freudenberger, 1974; Holland, 1982; Peeters & Rutte, 2005). Correlation analyses was carried out in order to determine the relationship between burnout and coping strategies used by teachers. Subsequently the results were discussed with findings from several previous studies. Furthermore both teacher burnout and coping strategies were compared in various teachers' demographic variables - gender, education, age, school size and level taught, years of experiences and finally class and non-class teaching. In association with burnout, the results indicated 4,6 % of participants, who suffer from burnout often. 56 % teachers of our sample experience burnout rarely or very rarely and 39,3 % of teachers experience burnout never or very rarely. Significant difference was found in age category. Teachers in age 46-60 years experience the highest level of burnout. Regarding the coping strategies, 34 % of teachers use negative coping strategies. Positive correlation between level of...
Flirtation between girls and male teachers at grammar school
Votřelová, Lenka ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Duplinský, Josef (referee)
The goal of the work is to gain an overview of attitudes of male teacher to the behaviour of schoolgirls, in which there appears the flirt element. I think that in the area of school relationship (but also elsewhere) there exists very slight border between the "appropriate", "adequate", "inadequate" and "inappropriate" behaviour. I am interested in the slight border from the point of view of a pedagogue. Because I am dealing with the relationship between a teacher and a pupil (especially relationships between a male teacher and a schoolgirl), 1 would like to focus on the both persons involved in the interaction of this relationship. I am interested in the type of circumstances influencing the pedagogical relationship, what could be "a risk" for the both groups individually, or if the essential circumstances meet. In the theoretical part I am dealing with the themes "pupil", "teacher" and the pedagogical relationship between them. Considering the goal of the work it is not possible to omit the theme of sexual abuse, which may be a result of a flirt of intimate relationship between a teacher and a pupil. There is a risk, which changes an innocent flirt into something banned, inappropriate. The teacher uses this way his power and authority, although there does not have to be the bad intention and the effort to...
