Transformations of Miloš Forman's media image in contemporary press
Řápek, Jan ; Šobr, Michal (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
This master's thesis is devoted to the changes of Miloš Forman's media image, more precisely how period press noticed both his career and work. Miloš Forman is the most acknowledged and most famous czech film director. His story is connected with story of czech cinematography and story of its changes. The thesis wants to find out, why Forman wasn't destroyed even though he left the country, despite his emigration. It is trying to prove that his media image never been strictly negative and Forman itself never became taboo. Forman's person is beyond all standards. He is proof, that if the work is not strong crtitical against regime, it arouses respect despite all the ideology. He was reflected in the various stages, but still in relatively good light. The thesis examines the perception of the media in three life stages: work in Czechoslovakia before going to the United States, working abroad and finally after the Velvet Revolution. Although Forman has participated in many films, thesis focused only on his feature-length work. And because Miloš Forman is a person who transcends the borders of Czechoslovakia, or the Czech Republic, media abroad reflected his career as well, althought the view there was slightly different from the domestic one.
Kancelář Blaník: Political satire as a mirror of real politics
Jirouschková, Karolína ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
Diploma thesis "Kancelář Blaník: Politická satira jako zrcadlo skutečné politiky" aims to discover what image of politics the satirical series "Kancelář Blaník" presents to the audience and how it achieves it. After the necessary theoretical anchoring of the researched issue follows a practical analysis of the series, which focuses on the characteristics of main and secondary characters, objects of satire and dramaturgical structure of episodes and the whole series. The final part of this thesis also describes the movie "Prezident Blaník", which follows the series and shows the differences in the processing of one theme in different formats.
Influence of colours on price expectation
Novotný, Jan ; Vranka, Marek (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Soňa (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focusing on investigating the influence of packaging's colours on the expected price of consumable goods. The paper briefly presents the history and results of research on the overall impact of the colours on human behavior. Similarly, studies examining the packaging and its ability to communicate through visual design are also introduced. The thesis also mentions some of the methodological shortcomings of existing research. The limited amount of existing research, which tries to describe the influence of packaging appearance on consumer behavior, is followed by a new experimental study. Its aim is to combine the partial results of previous studies to help understand how colours currently affect the customer's image of the product. The results of this research show a noticeable effect mainly in the hue alternation. In some cases, the use of an orange hue on the product packaging has been reflected in a lower expected price, while the use of black had the opposite effect. The results offer relatively apparent possibilities for practical implications, especially after further examination of the issue.
Character of Journalist in the Danish Series Borgen
Krištofíková, Klára ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
anglicky The aim of the diploma thesis Character of A Journalist in the Danish Series Borgen is to analyze the role and development of the journalist's character in terms of his professional life. At the same time, the aim is to create a representative typology of situations the journalist often gets into. The thesis deals with myths and stereotypes that surround the journalist profession and finds out how are these stereotypes reflected in the audiovisual work. The basis of the analysis and narrative approach is book Narrative as Virtual Reality: Immersion and Interactivity in Literature and Electronic Media by Marie-Laure Ryan. It takes a narrative as a mental image or construct, which consists of a world inhabited by beings who, by their actions, change the world. To create a situation typology the thesis works with set of diagrams. The diagrams visualise relationships and events between the characters. These diagrams are created by a visualisation program that makes it easy to understand the relationships between individual subjects, highlights the repeating situations and the characters at the heart of the action. It also allows more effective analysis through the overal view of the series and their systematic and complete description.
Module for the detection of light elements in ferrous alloys by the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy technique
Teorie absorpce ultrafialového záření vzduchem a optickými skly byla důkladně studována a shrnuta k získání potřebného teoretického základu k vývoji modulu.

Conserved Mechanisms of Gene Expression Regulation by Nuclear Receptors.
Novotný, Jan Philipp ; Kostrouch, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Stopka, Pavel (referee) ; Lazar, Jozef (referee)
7 Abstract With the first appearance of life on Earth, organisms had to adapt to an ever-changing surrounding environment in order to survive. Since the emergence of metazoan multi- cellularity, subsets of cells could adapt to perform specific biological tasks beneficial to the whole organism, necessitating not only spatiotemporal regulation of gene expression during development, but also integration of tissue specific needs with overall organis- mal status. Within the set of evolutionary conserved regulatory systems, the family of nuclear receptor (NR) transcription factors stands out due to its high degree of evolu- tionary conservation, plasticity and uniqueness to the metazoan kingdom, regulating gene expression in response to, or in the absence of a ligand by genomic and non- genomic actions. With an increasing number of different compounds being recognized as ligands to NRs, it is now thought that ancient NRs were probably characterized by low ligand binding specificity, eventually serving as environmental sensors, integrating nutrient availability and gene expression at the base of metazoan evolution. Characteri- zation of the NR network in one of the simplest metazoan organisms, Trichoplax ad- haerens, revealed not only a functional network and sub-specialization of NR dependent gene regulation, but...

Diploma Thesis titled 'Fire in Meďenec: from reality, newspaper and TV news to the film interpretation and film reviews' examines the criminal case of Eva Kovačová, who set a social care home on fire on the night of September 1st 1984, and thereby took the lives of twenty six mentally handicapped girls. Her motives were was escaping the institute into which she was wrongly admitted and revenge against its employees who used harsh methods and cruel punishments. For this crime she was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The year 1990 saw the release of a book titled Brutality by journalist Josef Klime, which dealt with the case in detail. The book further served as an inspiration for the script to Filip Renč's film Requiem pro panenku, which premiered in 1991. According to the employees of the home, the film twists reality by portraying the caretakers as cruel monsters and Eva Kovacova as the victim. The purpose of the Thesis is to present the narrative regarding this case from newspapper articles, Klima's Brutality, Filip Renč's film to the film reviews and the tabloid boom after the year 2009, when the case was re-opened by journalist Tomáš Poláček. A section of the Thesis builds on thorough interviews with pastor František Lízna, with whom Eva Kovac lived after her release from prison and with whom she...
