Lusatian Sorbs and the Society in the Regions of Jizera and Central Elbein the Period of the First Czechoslovak Republic
Futtera, Ladislav ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Čechurová, Jana (referee)
Between the years 1931-1934, both in the region of Jizera in the area between Semily and Mladá Boleslav and in the region of Central Elbe between Kolín and Nymburk, eight subsidiary unions of the Czechoslovakian-Lusatian society "Adolf Černý" were founded. On three other places, namely in Český Brod, Kouřim and Lysá nad Labem, the attempts to establish the local unions failed. Nonetheless, the area consequently became the second most significant cultural centre as well as the meeting point of the Lusatian Sorbs in the inter-war Czechoslovakia, the first one being Prague. It was regularly visited by the Lusatian Sokol gymnasts or choirs, and Lusatian-Sorbian children as well as university students spent their holidays there. It is therefore no surprise that the Mužský Hill near the city of Mnichovo Hradiště became the location of a demonstration in support of the Lusatian Sorbs which took place there in July 1933 as a reaction to a wave of persecutions in Germany. Due to the fragmentary nature of the sources, the topic of the following thesis is based primarily on the regional press, the Sorbian press and the journal Českolužický věstník, called Lužickosrbský věstník since 1931. There is only one complete archive which remained intact, namely the one of the Semily union of the Czech-Lusatian society...

Temples of knowledge had been orphaned: The interventional struggle which was led by representatives of protectorate administration in order to mitigate consequences of the German proceeding against Czech universities in autumn 1939
Borl, Petr ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Zilynská, Blanka (referee)
The diploma thesis concerns itself with a struggle of the administration of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia to deal with the consequences of the German action of 17th November, when as a revenge for previous demonstrations Czech universities in the Protectorate were closed and more than a thousand of their students were arrested and sent to concentration camps in Germany. The content of the second chapter is formed by an exposition of a struggle to achieve liberation of the jailed students and their comeback home that was realised by the interventions of the state president Hácha and the Protectorate government at the representatives of the occupation regime; and then an inquest of their tactics and its successfulness at these interventions. A topic of the next chapter is a description and an analysis of the problems accompanying the closure of Czech universities, with which the Protectorate government was also forced to deal. Among them there were for example a placement of the students, who were not jailed but prevented from continuing in their studies and whom the Protectorate government strove to protect...

Němcová, Veronika ; Spurný, Matěj (advisor) ; Čechurová, Jana (referee)
The bachelor thesis Society in the Hlučín region between the two World Wars / National identity forming exemplified by the educational system deals with the theme of national identity of this specific region whose history was very different from that of the rest of the newly formed Czechoslovak Republic. It attempts to illustrate the development of local ethno- national tensions from 1920 to 1938 while demonstrating that these conflicts were driven more by general national and strategic interests than on real interests of the local population. From the broader perspective of the specific situation of the Hlučín region in the economic, political and religious sphere the thesis highlights the educational system as a key area of conflict, linked to the efforts to achieve linguistic hegemony. It describes the conditions and context that exercised a profound influence on national identity forming in the Hlučín region.
