The theoretical part of the thesis explains the basic concepts that are essential for the thesis, introduces the methodology and content of the whole thesis, and also presents the theoretical approaches of cultural studies on which the thesis is based. These are mainly based on the concept of active audience, the theory of selectivity and the findings of the so-called Birmingham School. It briefly describes the historical development and role of radio in the Czech Republic and its current form. Vietnam War during the years 1964-1975 from the perspective of Rudé právo and New York Times
Matoušek, Martin ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor's thesis is to focus on key events of the conflict known as the Vietnam War through the perspective of the Czechoslovak and American periodicals i.e., the Rudé právo and the New York Times. By examining newspaper articles focusing on the most important events, it will help to understand the extent to which the subjective interpretation of the Czechoslovak communist periodicals differed from the American ones, and then to objectively put this information in a historical context. Given the period in which the war took place, it is assumed that both periodicals were to some extent subject to propaganda and did not inform their readers objectively. The work consists of three main parts, the first part outlines the historical and political situation in Vietnam and the United States. It then analyses the researched periodicals in a historical context. The second part focuses on the qualitative analysis of selected newspaper articles from both periodicals and their subsequent comparison. The third part then focuses on the final analysis of the data obtained in the second part and evaluates with what accuracy the information in the articles with the historical context coincided and whether the periodicals were objective in their information.

Along with this, it compares the description of the path of the letters in the analysed material to the one in this thesis. The introduction contains a historical context in which the topic is set, the life of Milada Horáková, and the political trial, therefore the events leading up to the writing of the letters. The following chapters cover the contents of each letter and their publication in 1990. The journey of the letters is further detailed in the thesis, along with the fact that the letters were secretly taken from the General Prosecutor's Office and safely hidden by JUDr. Lubomír Štěpán for twenty years, before their handover to the bereaved family, information not yet...

Gálová, Gabriela ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
In this master thesis I focus on the news presenters at the public broadcaster Radiožurnál which is part of Czech Radio. My aim is to map their role in the station's broadcasting and to describe the factors that influence them in the processes of the selection of news and the compilation of news reports. I will also try to define the positions that are involved in the creation of the entire newscast. The main theoretical concept of the whole thesis is gatekeeping. I will also present possible organizational structures of newsrooms, the definition of journalism profession or the anchoring of Czech Radio in the Czech media system. The research part is based on the analysis of twenty semi-structured interviews with news presenters and staff of the central newsroom. In the thesis I answer the question of how the news coverage of the Radiožurnál station is produced. I also look at the role of news presenters in terms of professional requirements and the degree of journalistic autonomy. Finally, I analyse the factors that influence news presenters in their work in terms of media organization, media routines and individual level.

The results of the analysis of drama podcasts show that in their case sound design is very important. Primarily in the form of musical undertones and sound effects revealing other levels of storytelling. In all cases, their intention is to provide an authentic experience and build an attractive environment for listeners.
