Kubátová, Vendula ; Dohnalová, Marie (advisor) ; Legnerová, Kateřina (referee)
Virtual world is having an increasingly important role for us. Not only it affects our personal lives but also our shopping habits. Today it is more or less a necessity to be present online for many companies. The submitted work is the first exploratory analysis of websites content of social enterprises in the Czech Republic. This sample consists of 128 social enterprises, which were supported by a Call no. 30 "Social economy" of the European Social Fund. Supported organizations gain a considerable amount of funds for thein development. With incoming public finances it is necessary to raise a question of transparency and openness of these organizations. Work describes which information is available through websites of social enterprises, evaluates their level of transparency and monitors whether these organizations recognize themselves as social enterprises. It was examined whether organizations disclose information for which they could be described as a social enterprise organization that is in compliance with the principles created by the Thematic Network for Social Economy (TESSEA) a network, which created the first Czech definition of social enterprise. The results show that most social enterprises have a website. However, although the information sought on websites were more or less basic,...
Comparison of the state of Public Affairs in the Czech Republic and Great Britain
Bergerová, Sabina ; Hejlová, Denisa (advisor) ; Shavit, Anna (referee)
This bachelor thesis follows the very first research on the state of public affairs in Czech environment and its comparison to neighbouring countries and so brings the comparison of the state of public affairs in the Czech Republic with Western style democracy on the example of the United Kingdom. The comparison is conducted on the basis of state regulations. Regulatory framework is then also completed with insight into self- regulation. Based on such method, number of dissimilarities and similarities between the states of public affairs in both countries are indentified - amongst the most significant of the latter falls: both countries (1) pursued establishment of separate law intensively only in very recent years; (2) decided to address the issue of unsatisfactory level of transparency within the industry by suggesting introduction of mandatory register that should be available to the public online; (3) aside from regulating actions of those in the public affairs industry, both countries emphasize the importance of regulating the ones who are lobbied; (4) highlight as potential problem the ‚revolving door effect'; (5) failed to achieve to approve the legislation in the way it was originally designed and both countries (6) still lack effective statutory regulation of the public affairs industry....
Transparency of NGOs Fighting against Corruption in the Czech Republic
Vomastková, Tereza ; Navrátil, Jiří (advisor) ; Deverová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis discusses the topic of anti-corruption, non-governmental, non-profit organisations (NGOs), and specifically the relationship between their transparency and their sources of financial income. Inasmuch as the activities of such NGOs are of general public interest, and their output should therefore be available to everyone, this thesis focuses on the transparency of these organisations on the Internet as the most accessible medium. The theoretical part of the thesis scrutinises some key concepts, such as anti-corruption NGO, accountability, transparency and organisational resources. The research sample includes 23 organisations who declare to be fighting against corruption and data collection was carried out via the Internet. The goal of this thesis was to analyse the transparency of Czech anti-corruption NGOs since such an analysis has not been carried out to date. An overview of financing and transparency of the organisations under investigation was based on an analysis of their web pages and annual reports. The index of transparency shows the accessibility of information and its correlation with the structure of financial resources determines how various financial resources are related to the organisation's transparency. In the resultant discussion, the findings introduced in the theoretical...
Central bank's Independence, Transparency and Accountability: Comparison between the National Bank of Georgia and the European Central Bank
Nakani, Nino ; Holub, Tomáš (advisor) ; Babin, Adrian (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis constructs the indices of independence, transparency and accountability of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) and European Central Bank (ECB). The results for the NBG are compared with the ECB and policy recommendations for the NBG based on ECB practice are suggested. The results of the analyses show that the ECB has achieved almost full independence and transparency in conducting the monetary policy but there are less favorable results in case of accountability. The NBG, even though revealed a gradual increase in its independence, transparency and accountability since 1998, still needs to put more effort into improving its autonomy, communication practices and responsibility.
Growing Role of Switzerland in Commodity Trade
Sláma, Ondřej ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Fišerová, Tereza (referee)
Growing Role of Switzerland in Commodity Trade Ondřej Sláma Abstract This thesis assesses causes and consequences of Switzerland becoming the world's leading commodity hub. In both the replication and the extension of existing esti- mates, I find support for the hypothesis that Switzerland declares unusually higher (re-)export prices for commodities which are also on average under-priced as devel- oping country exports to Switzerland. The transfer pricing manipulation process implies a potential capital loss for commodity exporting countries along with other movement of either illicit or illegal financial flows. The highest annual estimate of $117 billion loss for developing countries trading with Switzerland suggests substan- tial issue in times of development aid turmoil. I attribute such grievous matters to Switzerland's low effort to meet international norms of international trade and trade transparency. The transfer pricing manipulation might also serve as a vehicle for money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption, or tax and tariff evasion and avoidance, as the data imply. Financial Stability Transparency and Interest Rates
Pařízek, Petr ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Brechler, Josef (referee)
Financial Stability Transparency and Interest Rates Petr Pařízek Abstract This paper examines the relationship between financial stability transparency and nominal interest rates on a panel data with more than 50 countries in years 2000 to 2010, controlling for macroeconomic conditions. We investi- gate the same relationship using monetary policy transparency, we compare the results and based on the existing literature we check for non-linear ef- fects of transparency. Moreover, we examine how this relationship changes in financially good and bad times in terms of financial stress. We find nega- tive relationship between both financial stability and monetary policy trans- parency and short-term interest rates. Especially in the case of monetary policy transparency our results suggest non-linear relationship and the exis- tence of an intermediate optimal level of transparency. For financially good and bad times our findings are miscellaneous, some in accordance and some in contradiction with the literature. Generally, our results suggest that the effect of financial stability transparency on short-term interest rates is weaker than the effect of monetary policy transparency. For the long-term interest rates, we find no evidence of the effect of financial stability nor monetary policy transparency. Examining the data in...
Factors affecting prey detectability for visual predators
Machalková, Kateřina ; Exnerová, Alice (advisor) ; Javůrková, Veronika (referee)
The cryptic coloration is one of the main ways to protect prey before the visually directing predators. Most animals use two basic strategies of crypsis, background-matching and disruptive coloration. The aim of this thesis was to summarize and evaluate knowledge about different strategies of cryptic coloration. The study was mainly focused on the confrontation between insect prey and predator bird. Experimental studies are comparing the effectiveness of cryptic coloration of prey by a combination of background-matching and disruptive coloration with prey characteristics (inner pattern contrast, background contrast, shape and pattern distribution, symmetry) or background parameters (background complexity, multiple backgrounds, the distance between the prey and the predator) that affect detectability. The results of the study conclude that disruptive coloration pattern in cryptic prey has better effects than the strategy of background-matching. Prey characteristics can affect detectability, but the results of individual studies are not conclusive. Even the background parameters results were unambiguous, the highest efficiency for prey detection time was a combination of disruptive coloration and the background complexity. The issue of camouflage is so complex that the majority of studies do not have...

Funding of political parties - legal regulation, control, transparency
Valenta, Jakub ; Antoš, Marek (advisor) ; Mlsna, Petr (referee)
The subject matter of this paper is an analysis of the current system of political parties funding in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to critically assess the current legal regulation and to point out potential shortcomings and possibilities for improvement. At a time when public confidence in political parties is characterized by a systematic and long-term downward trend, it is a recent and widely discussed topic. We may well ask whether the legal regulation of this issue does not provide room for improvement and innovation. The extensive topic is structured into two areas - the question of financial resources and the question of control and transparency. The paper is composed of five chapters. Chapter one deals with the political parties in general and with the law of political parties, especially with constitutional aspects. The second chapter examines the financing of political parties, its basic principles, models and division. In brief, it covers also the development of funding. The subject of the third chapter is a detailed description of the funding of political parties in the Czech Republic. In the fourth chapter the thesis deals with control, transparency and enforcement, at both the general and the specific level, when Czech regulation is subject to scrutiny. Chapter Five is...
The regulation of lobbying in the CR - recommendations based upon foreign experience
Kraus, Lukáš ; Wintr, Jan (advisor) ; Ondřejek, Pavel (referee)
Lobbying regulation in the Czech Republic - recommendations based on international experience Summary Lobbying is a natural part of contemporary globalized world, where political interests meet intensively with the economic and other private interests. In order to strengthen the principles, especially transparency and responsibility, some countries adopt lobbying regulation. The USA, Canada, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania and the EU institutions approach to lobbying in some aspects in the same way, in many other aspects they approach to it very differently. Different historical and socio-economical experience of these entities has, often substantial, influence on the differences of their regulation approach. The Czech Republic shares with many mentioned countries the experience of post- communist state, which does not have long democratic political culture and which has many problems with corruption in the public decision-making process. Lobbying regulation under Czech conditions is therefore necessary for raising transparency and responsibility of politicians. During the preparation of the future regulation, it is necessary to respect recmmendations of the international organizations and to thoroughly analyze experience of other states. The necessary parts of the future law should be especially: clear...
