HOUSE ON THE EDGE – Valašské Meziříčí, Sokolská Street
Trenz, Miloš ; Müller, Zdeněk (referee) ; Ruller, Ivan (advisor)
The town of Valasske Mezirici lies in the foothills of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, which imparts a specific architectural character. Historical roots dating back to the Middle Ages can be traced in its urban structure. The core of the town is defined by three lines – the Becva River and two important thoroughfares, which refer to the historical context. The centre with its character is in marked contrast to the surrounding, predominantly residential development. Thus a spatial conflict arises that defines the boundary between the town and housing, the boundary between ‘the old and new’, or ‘the big and small’. The plot intended for the design lies on this border as well. The structure of the historic core of the town is specified by the fact that all public spaces, main facades and the elements of a town parter are oriented towards the main square. But on the other hand, it is falling apart gradually. This fact destroys the historical ties connected with the fortification walls which once delimited the centre clearly and thus enabled it to preserve its distinctive urban character. The idea of ‘definition’ and closing of the centre is making sense again after the construction of gigantic buildings in the neighbourhood. The design is drawn up on the basis of this reasoning. The building fills the space in the southern part of the former fortification system and closes the axis leading away from the main square. This gesture of the closure highlights the importance of the historical ties and the central character of the town core structure. It has no ambition to become a destination point. It only regulates the way of how the town is perceived, directs the citizens towards its major spaces and prevents the diffusion of the centre and the periphery. A new face goal is set by the curving the facade facing the centre. It is a noticeable tree located at the intersection of the ring road of the inner circle of the former fortification walls and the pedestrian communication leading from the periphery to the centre. Besides, a new urban area, supported by the height gradation of the mass of the building is delimited here. The newly created line connects the centre with the periphery. It replaces the original subway and thus provides a more dignified possibility of entering the town than from the underground. The building has a shape of a closed block – it delimits the entire plot and thereby reflects the need to build underground garages across its whole area. Hence an urban cliché does not arise and what can be found above the ground corresponds to what is underneath. The entire volume is divided into three parts as for the mass and operation. The importance of their function increases gradually. Thanks to this gradation the breaking of the large volume is achieved and at the same time the hygiene requirements are met. The individual masses are separated by an orthogonal system of communication axes created by covered galleries, which can be traced on the facades through the entire height.

HOUSE ON THE EDGE – Valašské Meziříčí, Sokolská Street
Scholz, Lukáš ; Pospíšil, Zdeněk (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
1. URBANISTIC CONTEXT Parcel is located on the south side of the historical part of the city Valašské Meziříčí, at the location of the originial castle wall, which surrounded the whole city center. The goal of the project is to keep the thought of the historical city, keep the original shape of the historical part including the castle walls and creation of a matter to fill the space in castle wall belt, which will keep it’s former shape. Parcel is in the center of the comunication axes from the residential zone to the center. The object is desiged in a way that would enable a free passage between the city center and the peripheral part and at the same time make an impression of wholesome barier surrounding the center. 2. ARCHITECTURAL EXPRESSION The goal of the project was to solve basic problems, which are: 1. The noise from the main comunication which goes around the historical center, 2. Utilize the parcel in a way, so that there would be a barrier in the way of the viewing axis from the plaza to the block houses, which would atleast partially block them. 3. design such matter, that would fulfil the function of a barier, but also enable the sun to shine through on to the public level, 4. to keep the existing possibility of going through the area. In case of blocking the surface with solid matter, we will prevent the noise spreading from the main comunication to the center a it‘s possibility to block the view at the block houses, but by this way we will prevent the supply of the solar rays to the public level and it would be impossible to freely pass through from one side to the other. The result would be an object which is made from a solid matter, this solves 2 out of 4 basic goals, but as if is fictivly torn in way so that 2 basic matters are created. The first of them is built on a land next to the main comunication, is noise canceling and blocks the view from the public level to the road. The second, which is torn from the original, that as if is hanging in the air, makes a dominant element in seeing through from the plaza. By the tearing we’ll achieve the solution to the next requirement and that is to enable the sun to shine through to the public level. 2 solid matters across the whole length of the parcel inserted inside the gap makes a very violent impression and does not answer to the scale of the construction in the historical center of the city. Because of this reason the object is separated into 5 individual parts, which are next to the main part of the contruction, connected by comunicational cores, which in the public level, also work as a regulation element for passing through the zone. The lower part of the construction closes the view throught the public level, guides the pedestrians and by division to 5 parts enables a free passage through the whole area.
A town-hall in Kopřivnice
Pešková, Klára ; Zdvomka, Ondřej (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
Objective of the Master thesis is a design of an adaptation and an activation of townhall building situated in the centre of Kopřivnice town. Location of the project is a site of trapezoidal shape slightly tilted towards railways on Štefánikova street. The design aspires to create a sufficient working space for townhall employees and at the same time to produce a space suitable for living, work and activities sought-after by a younger generation especially. Design of the multifunctional house offers start-up and communal housing (so called co-living) of 1+kk to 4+kk dispositions and a coworking space. The townhall’s layout is designed according to current trends in public administration with emphasis on openness, hospitability and consideration to citizens. Multi-purpose hall, completing the entire design, is above all supposed to serve as citizen assembly tool. Parking is provided by a current parking lot and a parking house. Design of the spatial layout creates static composition of buildings, which completes the distinctive townhall construction.

Design of a sustainable urban structure - based on a medieval city - for the 21st century.
Kunderová, Markéta ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of a sustainable urban structure of the 21st century based on a medieval town in Náměšť nad Oslavou in the Vysočina region. It is a relatively large location defined by a zoning plan for the future development of the town. The area is specific because it is located entirely on the northern slope and is directly adjacent to the railway track, which is a physical as well as noise barrier for potential construction. The aim of the thesis is to design a solution that uses the potential of the place, offers a modern and economical way of living and creates appropriate public spaces based on medieval towns. The intention is to connect the new location with the existing structure of the town and thus prevent it from becoming the city periphery.

Kapraľová, Kristína ; Sedlák, Jan (referee) ; Kiszka, Josef (advisor)
The aim of the work is regeneration and reclamation of the main formal places and points in the Polna town, on the level of the town (part of the town), the castle complex and the main court. Using the town acupuncture method and focusing on the main and the most important parts, I created the system of segments (plateaus), which like the separate elements create the appearance of the town as a whole. In my diploma thesis I focused on segment of castle complex. Using the gradual regeneration of the main formally important places and points, I created its overall “ideal” condition. The result of my work is the design of alternative use of castle complex and castle court elements.
