Vzájemné ovlivňování angličtiny a druhého cizího jazyka a jejich vliv na jazykovou úroveň studentů na českých středních školách

My diploma thesis is concerned with the possible effects of linguistic transfer between a Czech grammar school students' acquired languages, namely English and French or German, on their performance in these languages. The thesis is written on the backdrop of the Czech Education System. The System of Curricular Documents and the related documents which predetermine the students' language development are introduced, and their most important implications for the development of the students' L2 and L3 are listed out. The foreign languages which this thesis is predominantly focused on, namely English, French and German, are analysed diachronically, synchronically and typologically to establish their main principles, their similarities, and differences, which may serve as the possible sources of linguistic transfer. Cognitive processes underlying the development of L2 and L3 systems in the context of the Czech Education System and relevant theories are introduced, including the variables which determine to a significant degree the development of these languages and may have implications for the possible instances of linguistic transfer. Tato bakalářská práce vysvětluje problematiku anglického jazyka jako lingua franca a jeho využití v každodenní komunikaci v nadnárodních společnostech. Práce sestává z teoretické a praktické části. První část popisuje status anglického jazyka jako celosvětového jazyka a jeho využití v globálním rozsahu. Pomocí Kachrova modelu také popisuje současnou pozici anglického jazyka ve světě. Druhá část se věnuje praktickému využití anglického jazyka jako lingua franca v mezinárodních společnostech a zvažuje tři z nejrozšířenějších žánrů obchodní komunikace. Veškerý analyzovaný materiál byl použit ze zdrojů interní komunikace v nejmenované mezinárodní společnosti

Mobile Game for Practicing English Vocabulary

Cílem této práce bylo navrhnout a implementovat multiplatformní vzdělávací mobilní hru pro procvičování a rozšiřování anglické slovní zásoby. Hra je založena na pravidlech slovní kopané a jí podobných her se slovy a obsahuje režim online hry dvou hráčů proti sobě. Aplikace využívá platformu .NET, kde je implementována v jazycích C# a XAML. Činnost mobilního klienta závisí na vzdálených službách, které byly nasazeny s využitím vhodných cloudových služeb a integračních možností platformy Microsoft Azure. Verze mobilní aplikace pro Android byla publikována prostřednictvím Google Play v režimu přístupu pro testování a ozkoušena na uzavřené skupině uživatelů s vlastními zařízeními. Na základě zpětné vazby z testování byly navrženy možnosti dodatečných vylepšení v oblastech odstranění technických slabin a přidání nových funkcionalit.

Evaluation of Betting Odds of Premier League's Matches

Betting on sports is currently a trending phenomenon and this thesis is focusing on evaluating key factors for betting on the Premier League football matches. The aim of this thesis is to provide a better with an answer to whether it is a good idea to make a bet on a certain match considering current odds and risk factors or not. In this thesis we analysed certain amount of data on which the match results shall be depending on. We collected the data from previous seasons of this League as well as from other football competitions the Premier League teams take part in.

Commented Translation: Measurements in Electrotechnics and Audiotechnics

Předmětem této práce je komentovaný překlad instruktá- žního textu používaného v univerzitních kurzech Měření v elektrotechnice a Měření v audiotechnice. Překlad byl vytvořen pro potřeby budoucích zahraničních studentů navštěvujících uvedené kurzy. Komentář uvádí důvody motivace k provedení překladu, překladatelské teorie a pohledy aplikované během překladu, potíže ke kterým v průběhu došlo a jejich individuální řešení, včetně konkrétních příkladů, a stručnou lingvistickou analýzu textu. Kromě samotného překladu tato práce představuje koncept slovníčků které by doprovázely každý laboratorní návod v textu. Finální verze překladu je připravena k posouzení, zda může být použita jako oficiální studijní materiál.

Internet Robot for an Assistance of Calendar Scheduling

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of the internet robot for assistance of calendar scheduling. The robot and a user comunicate with a subset of English. User does not have to study special syntax of the orders which makes using of the robot-calendar much simplier. This easement is the main contribution of the work. This kind of control should help especially to the users with lesser amount of computer skills, for whom the special syntax-oriented-control might be difficult. The XMPP protocol is used for a comunication which is of instant messaging type. NLTK toolkit was used for natural language processing. The source code of the robot is completely programmed in Python programming language. The work also deals with possibilities of robot's further development.

Temporal Logics for a Man

The work deals with the automated translation of a natural language to temporal logic. Existing research attempts are summarized and built upon. For specificating the temporal properties a subset of English is introduced. The main contribution of the work is the proposed algorithm of translation of a property in the given language to LTL temporal logic, based on processing of and finding patterns in grammatical dependencies of The Stanford English Parser. Future research directions are discussed at the end.

Using Word-Association Games for Language Teaching

This thesis explores the use of the word associative game Codenames in language learning, especially learning English as the second language. In order to achieve the goal, it addresses the problem of explaining semantic relations among words. The explanations take advantage of word sketches, provided by the Sketch Engine tool, and of word descriptions available in specialized English dictionaries. The implemented extension of the previously created engine for playing Codenames enables explaining the automatically suggested relations among the hint words and intended words in each game, motivating users for further exploration of the studied language.

Aplikace využívá platformu .NET, kde je implementována v jazycích C# a XAML. Části řešení dostatečně připravené pro produkční prostředí byly nasazeny s využitím vhodných cloudových služeb Microsoft Azure. Aplikace na Android byla publikována lokálně a ozkoušena na vybrané skupině uživatelů v rámci uzavřeného testování. Výsledky testování posloužily k určení stavu řešení v okamžiku dokončení práce a na na jejich základě byla navržena možná vylepšení nad rámec technických nedostatků a omezení.
