The HISPRA Project of the Municipal Library of Prague's Digitalisation Department

The thesis analyses project HISPRA of The Municipal Library of Prague's Digitalisation Department - development of the project, schedule and funding. Other part of thesis presents Digitalisation Department, assumptions of establishment of the department, development, organization and staff, and hardware and software. Furthermore, there is a presentation of an object of digitization. The most important in this part of thesis is presentation of features of the historical documents about Prague. Furthermore, there is an introduction of document's selection strategy. Thesis also presents the various processes of digitization, including access to The Digital Library Kramerius.
The book donation of František Trachta to the Capuchin Library in Sušice

This bachelor thesis is focused on the donation of books to the Capuchin library in Sušice made by František Trachta. It is registered in the catalog of Gotthard Tesar from the years 1875-1876. Comprehensive analysis of the gift was preceded by the complete transliteration of the list of the donated books from the nineteen sentury german cursive scripture. Each of the individual chapters in the bachelor thesis describes all historical and factual information related to the donation. The project is conceived on the basis of historical documents and preserved archival materials, which could be obtained for inspection. All recorded information is introduced and explained as accurately as possible to avoid any speculations. The well known studies of Prof. Václav Bok and Prof. Antonín Janák were used as a base of the research and became supports of the so far untreated subject.
Significant non-European national digital libraries

The bachelor thesis introduces and describes in detail selected non-European national digital libraries, compares them with each other and compares them with European digital libraries and outlines their relationship to mass digitization projects. The introduction is dedicated to explaining basic terms. The project description is focused especially on user accessibility, materials in digital collections and cooperation at the national and the international level. Information systems and information support in culture of the Czech Republic

(anglicky): This study focuses on different types of cultural information resources in the Czech Republic, particularly specialized on beaux arts. The topic of the thesis is to describe and essentially analyze libraries, information systems and services in the field of culture within the Czech Republic. The very first chapters of the thesis define the terms such as culture and cultural heritage. The third chapter describes the projects, which fundamentally support culture, cultural heritage and its presentation, preservation etc. In the fourth chapter the main characteristics of the libraries of museums and galleries and general characteristics of libraries, which support culture, are described. The fifth chapter describes libraries whose fund and services are mainly focused on beaux arts. In the last chapter, the informational system and databases of beaux arts are described.
Mass digitization projects of printed documents

The bachelor thesis introduces the issue of mass digitization and its projects, which currently affect many digitizing activities all over the world and which have an impact on various areas of librarianship, such as access to information, roles of libraries and books or copyright relations. The introductory part is devoted to the definition of mass digitization and its placement in the context of digitization efforts. The second part briefly describes the advantages and disadvantages of mass digitization projects and its particular aspects, such as copyrights, OCR technology, metadata, finance, long-term preservation of documents etc., which largely affect those projects. Mass digitization projects are divided by types of financing in the next part. Particular projects are characterized in the context with the situation that prevails in Asia and Europe with mentioned examples from particular countries, and the situation in the Czech Republic. The final part compares the projects Google Book Search and Open Content Alliance with the Norwegian National Digital Library, as a representative of mass digitization among national digital libraries. Evaluation of results of comparison and the effects of mass digitization are stated at the end of the bachelor thesis.
Strategy of the European Union in the area of information policy focused on libraianship

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate policie, programs and projects of the European Union's information policy. It is focused on the librarianship with a reflection of Czech projects in this area. In the introduction, the so-called Bangemann report is mentioned, which is considered as a milestone in the development of information society. This report laid the foundation for other strategic documents, which were the eEurope, including following action plans. There are other two important documents mentioned in the following chapters, i.e. i2010 - European information society for growth and employment, and EUROPE 2020 - A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The core of the work is formed by a description of programs, funding European projects in the area of librarianship and projects, which originated from those programs. Given the trend of the 21st century is the digitization, projects in this area are described in this thesis. This is especially the European Digital Library, Europeana, and many other partial projects. The penultimate chapter is devoted to current projects in the field of digitization in the Czech Republic. Degradation of paper documents and proceeding of reformation: mass deacidification and preservation reformatting

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce the topic of paper degradation and to present possible methods of its reparation, focusing on manufactured paper in particular. The author describes and debates causes and effects of degrading mechanisms faced by storage institutions. Furthermore, the most suitable storage conditions of library collections are discussed. Among other means of reparation, described in the paper, are methods of mass deacidification and of preservation reformatting. Lastly, readers will be acquainted with steps taken by the National Library of the Czech Republic to fight paper degradation.
The role of book in the life of Konstantin Biebl

The goal of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the personal library of Konstantin Biebl and Konstantin Biebl's estate in the National Literature Museum. By the findings from this analysis to draw Konstantin Biebl's relationship to books and their influence on his work. The first chapter deals with the life and work of Konstantin Biebl. The next chapter deals with Biebl's relationship to the book and with the book as inspiration to Biebl's work. Another chapter is concerned with Biebl's personal library which summarizes external and internal characteristics of Biebl's library a large part of this chapter is devoted to exceptional elements in the books of the library. The last chapter presents the history and content of Biebl's literary estate held in the National Literature Museum. Thanks to this were found some facts noted in the previous chapters. Work is completed by photo attachments representing significant items of books and correspondence of Konstantin Biebl. There is also a full acquisition list of the personal library. The conclusion summarizes the findings which were done.
The role of reading in orphanages in the Czech Republic

(anglicky) This master thesis deals with the role of reading in children's homes in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part shows the institutional care in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part presents the basic facts of developmental psychology and reading skills of children who are growing up in an children's home. The master thesis includes a research about the role of reading in children's homes and also a research about children's homes staff, which allows access to information for children. The methodological part contains information about selected technology for the research and infromation how was the research made. The analytical part contains the outputs of the research and its components are also meant to be used for improvements.
