One hundred years of Švejk: tranformation of the critical reception of Jaroslav Hašek's novel
Mašek, Filip ; Malý, Radek (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis deals with one century of Czech critical reflection on Jaroslav Hašek's novel The Good Soldier Švejk, i.e. the period from the publication of the first volume in 1921 to 2021. Using reviews in the press, literary critical polemics, selected literary and scientific studies and relevant articles we follow the transformation of the critical discourse about the mentioned novel. The mutual coherence of the viewed sources is ensured by the emphasis on intratextuality, the overview character of the work is complemented by references to other works. This work then not only collects individual texts in the form of bibliographic records and recapitulations of key theses, but also places them in a cultural, historical or social context using interpretive blocks. Using interpretations, we create a narrative culminating in the conclusion when we report on the evolution of the work's critical reception. After its publication, the book is accepted by a wide readership, but literary criticism ignores it with only few exceptions. The work saw rehabilitation in the second half of the 20s of the 20th century thanks to the critical polemics of the time. Since then, the novel has undergone several revisions - in the 1930s it was interpreted as a proletarian novel, during the Second World War it was banned...

In the form of interviews, the insights of six reporters who reported on the war in the period of February- August 2022 are put into context. At the end of the work, the main obstacles that journalists encountered while reporting on this war are stated, as well as the proposal of possible solutions of how they can be eliminated in the future.

The theoretical part describes the characteristics of quality and tabloid press and the process of tabloidization. It also introduces theoretical concepts that this thesis is based on, such as agenda-setting, gatekeeping, and social construction of reality. To provide a more comprehensive picture of Vaclav Havel's life, there is one chapter dedicated to him in the theoretical part. The practical part introduces the analysis method, followed by its procedure and results. Quantitative content analysis showed that more information about V. Šafránková, Tereza ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis aims to explain the concept of information bias and to demonstrate its concrete manifestations in the main evening newscasts of ČT24 and CNN Prima News. The background material will deal with the profiling of the media image of the functioning of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. The initial theoretical framework serves as the conceptual part of the thesis, outlining the issues of the phenomenon under investigation, i.e. media bias. This chapter defines the basic concepts, defines the methodological framework, provides a characterization of the media under study, and makes assumptions about the types of bias that the selected media might eventually commit, in the context of knowledge about how the media profiles itself. On the basis of this knowledge, a qualitative semiotic analysis is carried out, focusing on the content, language and visuals of the broadcast reports. As part of the analysis, the thesis also takes into account the profiling of the media image of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the ways in which the selected programmes violate the concept of information quality and...
