"Gender stereotyped optics in upbringing of several Prague's families"
Novotná, Barbora ; Maříková, Hana (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of gender stereotypes in the context of parental upbringing. This paper is based on qualitative research and analysis of eleven semi- structured interviews with parents who bring up at least two children of different sex. I focus on the relation between identified gender stereotypes in upbringing and parenting style. I also focus on gender stereotyped attitudes of fathers and mothers within individual families. On the basis of the interviews analysis I conclude that gender stereotypes in upbringing and overall optics of gender stereotypes are present in all families, regardless of parenting style. I am finding that differences among families with diverse parenting styles are primarily in the degree of awareness of gender stereotyped attitudes and the degree of active transmission of these attitudes to their children.
Lesbian Identity as a Stigma?
Kalinová, Pavla ; Maříková, Hana (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
This thesis raises the question to what extent remains lesbian identity relevant as a stigma in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part shows how sexuality and homosexuality in particular is influenced and shaped by society. I draw predominantly from scientific texts of foreign origin and for information relating to the Czech Republic I draw from Czech resources. My approach to the study of sexuality is constructivist. The research part of my study I drew from the analysis of semi-structured interviews with lesbian women. Initially, I offered an insight on what it means to be lesbian by the bearers of lesbian identities themselves. In the central part of my study, I explained in what context and why are the lesbian identities usually experienced as a stigma. As part of everyday life lesbian identity manifests itself as a stigma especially when a lesbian did not come out and treats her own identity as a stigma herself. By doing so she brings tension into interactions, especially with people who she is closer with, because she constantly deals with the control of information about her lesbian identity. Dissimulation of lesbian identity gets even harder in case that she is in relationship with a woman. Such a thing is necessarily connected with closeting the relationship, which makes it difficult for the...

The Relationships between the Second and the Third Generation as Seen by Grandchildren
Staňkovská, Barbora ; Šmídová, Olga (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
The point of this thesis is to explore the way of perception of the relationships between the second and the third generation in a family by grandchildren. These relationships make up an important part of the family; nevertheless they are not given an adequate research attention. The reason for this is often the perspective of disintegration of wider family relationships along with the evolution from traditional to modern society, which is not backed up by data, as the author shows in the theoretic part. Though the meaning of intergenerational relationships changes, they are still embedded into the relationships in nuclear family, which results from surveys of intergenerational relationships carried out here, in the Czech Republic. What will be important for the future form of intergenerational relationships are norms and patterns for the formation of these relationships internalized by the youngest generation. That is why the author focuses her analysis on the perception of the relationships between the second and the third generation in the eyes of grandchildren. She stems from narrative interviews with grandchildren on the topic of grandparents and using the method of grounded theory she comes to three different contexts of relationships perception in the eyes of grandchildren - the perception...
Context of working and private, family and partner life in contemporary Czech society
Vohlídalová, Marta ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
The thesis deals with relationships between the labour market and the private, family and partnership life in the contemporary Czech society. The Czech Republic has undergone many changes since the year 1989. Labour market and family and private life are the domains that have been substantially affected be these changes. Attention is focused on the question how working people perceive the influence of the working life on their private and family life under new conditions existing on the labour market (such as increasing job mobility, working-hour flexibility, new ways of the work organisation, and rising unemployment). Another topics discussed in this work are the ways in which people solve questions o f a coordination of two working careers within a couple and the partnership life in a context of professional lives of partners. A comparison of the level of conflict experienced between the working and private life in several European countries is also performed. The present work is based on a quantitative analysis of the two data sources. The first part is based on the data collected in a study involving 5510 respondents, which was done in the Czech Republic in the year 2005. The second part is based on the European Social Survey (ESS) data collected in the years 2004 and 2005. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

This document is an outcome of the research project Analysis of Barriers to and Support Strategy for Gender Equality in Science and Research implemented in 2017 and 2018 by the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences as part of the Operational Programme Employment (Reg. No. CZ.03.1.51/0.0/0.0/15_02 8/0003571). \nThe objective of the project was to develop recommendations for action to advance gender equality in research and development for the state administration and other key national players in research policy-making (the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Research, Development and Innovation Council, the Czech Science Foundation, the Technology Agency of the CR). Additional measures have been developed for higher education and research institutions and their umbrella organisations (Czech Rectors' Conference, the Czech Academy of Sciences). Moreover, the document aims to serve government bodies responsible for gender equality agendas (the Gender Equality Department of the Government of the CR). The measures have been proposed on the assumption that for their successful implementation it is necessary to ensure synergy between the state administration and research and higher education institutions. Due emphasis is also placed on the role and responsibility of senior researchers.\nThe document is unique in that it builds on an in-depth analysis of the working conditions and barriers to career progression in research and development. It is the first study of the working conditions in research in the CR of such a comprehensive nature. The summary of the main findings is presented in the annexes to this document. This is a working document. Its aim is to encourage discussion about the measures proposed. We welcome your feedback, be it in the form of email or as part of face-to-face conversations.
