Digital libraries with open access in science and research area and identification and metadata description of their objects

Thesis is devoted to the analysis of open accessible digital libraries in science and research and, at practical level, thesis puts Czech national metadata sets prepared within research and ETD digital libraries development in the Czech Republic. The second chapter presents terminology issues in digital libraries area and general models of digital libraries - "Kahn-Wilensky" architecture and Reference Model Open Archival Information System (OAIS) with special regard to institutional repositories. The third chapter contains the survey of development and current state of open access to information in science and research and its main resources including initiatives of its support. The fourth chapter presents selected systems of open access electronic archives or digital libraries in science and research. Included are selected systems and services in computer science, economics, library and information science, social science, the specific British system of internet resources Intute, digital libraries with citation services and ETDs digital libraries. The fifth chapter presents the outputs of research - Czech national metadata sets for ETDs description and communication with added issues of persistent identifiers of information entities. 3

Integrated information system of administrative activities

Tématem práce je charakteristika správních evidencí vedených v informačních systémech Ministerstva vnitra a dalších správních činností na úseku matriky a přestupků. Správní činnosti budou analyzovány z hlediska příslušné legislativy, která bude následně zhodnocena a bude navržena nová právní úprava. Cílem práce je ucelená informace o správních činnostech, analýza správních evidencí, ostatních správních činností a podání informace o poskytovaných údajích z informačního systému těchto evidencí. Práce se bude dále věnovat informacím o cestovních dokladech s biometrickými prvky a přípravě projektu. Na základě provedeného výzkumu bude podána prezentace výsledků analýzy získávání informací o správních evidencích a ostatních právních činnostech. V této části se práce bude dále věnovat stupni znalostí správních evidencí a ostatních správních činnosti, zdrojům informací o správních činnostech, hodnocení poskytovaných informačních služeb, frekvenci využívání informačních služeb, obecné informovanosti o zákonech a vyhláškách správních činností a znalosti zákona o svobodném přístupu k informacím a to z pohledu občana. V závěru práce jsou uvedeny výsledky vlastní analýzy a jejich zhodnocení.

Educational aspects of information science and information profession

Ph.D. thesis focuses on information science and information profession issues related to the education. Information literacy and information education development in the environment of various information institutions appears to be one of the crucial topics. Educational aspects of the information science are placed in the context of other scientific disciplines and the need of an interdisciplinary discussion and cooperation is emphasized. A theoretical background of the Ph.D. thesis is built on studies originating not only from the information science, but also from philosophy, theory of cultural institutions and education. The new concepts are defined, describing roles and competences of teaching librarians. The role of information professionals in school and academic libraries is described in detail. Educational activities in the information industry environment are mentioned as well. The closing chapter focuses on LIS education and the way library schools prepare their graduates to provide education and instruction. Conclusions are supported by the analysis of surveys performed. The results of relevant projects are described.

Information premises of succesfull investment strategies

Information science provides useful tools and approaches to make possible understanding of complex situations in knowledge based economies of global information societies. This dissertation project is focused on information side of an investment activity. It's aim is to identify key information factors in developing successful investment strategy targeted on companies from "new economy". Dissertation traces information transfer from the perspective of main actors (investor, information manager) and gives full picture of a problem situation. Investor's information needs stem from his search for a corporate superstar. Information manager must adjust his work as much as possible to a corporate strategy and business operations of a given firm. If they succed in their information activities there's a high chance for investor and information manager to meet in a same company improving it's performance and success even further.

Information policy in Czechoslovakia in the 70's and 80's the 20th century - ÚTZ project development and realization

This work disserts upon information policy in Czechoslovakia in the 70`s and 80`s the 20th century. It concerns with program of national information policy for scientific and technical development P18 and P13 and its partial aims and tasks. It enters into details of activities of Central technical base, its services and functions in four five-year plans of national economy. It analyses System of Central technical base and its individual modules. It follows development of computer technique and information transfer technology. It concerns with International system of scientific and technical information and cooperation between countries of Council for Mutual Economic Assistance in connection with Central technical base (for example: information line Moscow-Prague-Vienna). This work is devoted to Center of computerized information exchange which negotiates a connection to countries in soviet area and also connection to capitalistic vendors. At the end there is a short part about development after 1990.

Electonic document delivery and new paradigm in librarianship

The theme of my dissertation is development of electronic document delivery systems and follow-up document delivery services in the Czech Republic, focused on academic libraries. The principal objective of my work is to describe historical aspects of document delivery services, their dissemination and development, terminology, technical requirements, specification of technology conditions of electronic document delivery services. I define basic typology and evaluation criteria of various providers of document delivery services in the electronic environment. I introduce specific practical possibilities of document delivery services, some of the document delivery services in abroad and the Czech Republic. My dissertation contemplates the recent social and political changes that have significantly contribute this work to formulate and pursue principles of information society. The work engages in theoretical aspects of planning of information systems and introduces elementary concept of multi-purpose centre for document delivery services in Czech academic environment. The text is focused on issues connected with the raise of the information society and its development; challenges for the library services envisaging these new developments are discussed. Starting with an impugment on the definition of the information society the work presents critical overview of the current theories of the information society. This stays as basic for the attempt to implement current theories of the information society into the information and library services, as defined by the information science. The work argues that the information science needs to change its paradigm, since the information and information process themselves are not any more the paradigm, it is the net as an instant configuration formed around the information requirement. The proposal of the bachelor study program for information professionals

Creating an optimal bachelor study program for information professionals is the main topic of this thesis. This program should reflect the needs of Czech information society, be international and fulfill the requirements of the Bologna declaration, be based on the opinions of professional bodies and guarantee employability for its graduates. Work methods used were identifying key Czech and foreign materials and their analysis and evaluation, researching graduates and creating a new study program project. Analysis of the development of the Czech information society and its opportunities creates the preface of this thesis. The analysis of the European dimension of the topic has been made in the thesis. It is based on the Bologna declaration and its influence on the European Higher Education Area and higher education in the Czech Republic. The analysis of key competencies of information professionals has been made in the thesis as well. The approaches of chosen professional bodies (ALA, SLA, CILIP) have been analyzed and evaluated to optimize both the new program and the experiences of partner universities (Metropolitan Manchester University and Fachhochschul Burgerland).
