The topic of this bachelor's thesis is to explore the impact of sleep on trauma processing. The thesis focuses on mapping the current knowledge about trauma and the factors that influence the development of trauma-related disorders, especially post-traumatic stress disorder, and the mechanisms of its functioning, especially in terms of cognitive models of the disorder. It also presents the current treatment options and their effectiveness, with most attention given to the method of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. The thesis also presents the problematic of post-traumatic stress disorder in the context of sleep, describing the processes that take place during sleep, the bidirectional relationship between sleep and health, and how this relationship manifests itself in post-traumatic stress disorder. The thesis also focuses on the problematic of memory consolidation and the method of targeted memory reactivation. The thesis also aims to design a research project that uses findings from the theoretical part. The aim of the research design is to test the effectiveness of targeted memory reactivation for patients with PTSD and to discuss the potential benefits and limitations of such intervention. The Relationship between Sleep and Positive Emotion Regulation in Healthy Adults
Uškrtová, Johana ; Janků, Karolina (advisor) ; Urban, Kamila (referee)
This thesis concerns itself with the relationship between sleep and emotional regulation. Sleep is a significant state that plays a role in both physical and mental health. This thesis especially deals with the regulation of two positive self-conscious emotions, authentic and hubristic pride, in adult non-clinical population. The theoretical part introduces basic theories, knowledge and relevant research connecting sleep and emotional regulation. Through quantitative research with repeated measurements and multiple groups, the empirical part examines the relationship between sleep and the regulation of authentic pride, hubristic pride, and potential changes in the valency, arousal and dominance of the emotion. The emotion was induced by positive feedback to the participants' performance in cognitive tests. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the participants who were asleep between expositions marked the emotional intensity as significantly lower than those who stayed awake (F(1,34) = 5,99, p = 0,020). The size of the effect was large (ηšp = 0,150). The other variables did not show a significant interaction between the measurement and group. These findings may help with further studies of sleep and emotional regulation, especially regulation of positive self-conscious emotions. Key words:...
Effect of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Emotional Regulation in Patients with Insomnia
Soukupová, Linda ; Janků, Karolina (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This diploma thesis firstly introduces the topic of insomnia, models of its aetiology and treatment, with particular emphasis on emotional regulation. Main aim of the empirical part is to assess the effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy on emotional regulation in adult patients dealing with insomnia, because this psychological construct has been mostly overlooked in the context of treatment. The present pilot study observes the level of subjectively reported difficulties in emotional regulation in a group of insomniacs before and after undergoing psychotherapeutic intervention in comparison with control group with treatment as usual. The results show no significant effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy on reduction of difficulties in emotional regulation. Limits and implication of this study for future research are discussed. Key words: insomnia; cognitive-behavioural therapy; emotional regulation
Patients' need of safety and security after implantation of cardioverter-defibrillator
JANKŮ, Kateřina
This work deals with the patients' need of safety and security after the implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Any different heart rhythm from the physiological sinus rhythm is called an arrhythmia. ICD implantation is one of the treatment options for arrhythmias. However, with ICD implantation come changes not only physically but also mentally. And with that comes the fulfillment of needs, which are often neglected in patients with implanted ICDs. For this bachelor thesis, four goals were set which were supposed to find out how the lives of patients change after ICD implantation, how patients change their view on safety and security after ICD implantation, how the education of patients undergoing ICD implantation is carried out, and to map the mental support which is given to patients with ICD. Based on the set goals, four research questions were asked. A qualitative survey method was chosen for the research. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with patients. A total of 9 patients with implanted ICDs were questioned. The results of the study showed that the lifestyle of patients with ICD hadn't changed much and remained the same as before the implantation of ICD. The patients were mainly affected by changes in physical activities, driving and sexual life. It was also found that the view of safety and security has changed for the better in some patients, and they feel safer after ICD implantation, but some patients weren't aware of any changes. The view on safety and security was influenced by certain factors which included education, communication, nursing care, but also the psychological support of patients. The research found that patients were educated before implantation by their cardiologist, and for the vast majority of them, education was sufficient. Psychologically, the patients showed changes, mainly fear and anxiety, but also anxiety. As for the care of the medical staff, this care was very good for most patients and thus helped to improve the whole situation. Another finding was that all patients were supported by their families at all times. The work was created mainly as an information source for patients with implanted ICDs and medical school students.

Roma on the Czech countryside: Determinants of exclusion, potentials for inclusion
Hurrle, Jakob ; Sýkora, Luděk (advisor) ; Bernard, Josef (referee) ; Sidiropulu Janků, Kateřina (referee)
The dissertation project Roma on the Czech countryside: Determinants of exclusion, potentials for inclusion deals with the situation of Roma in Czech rural municipalities. The starting motivation for the author's exploration of this topic has been information about the growing number of segregated localities in rural areas. In the local public discourses within the peripheral areas, this phenomenon has often been explained as the consequence of poverty-driven urban-rural migration. However, as the migration of socially excluded populations into disadvantaged areas stirs a lot of fears and negative emotions that provide a fertile ground for the spread of rumours, the author's preparatory research soon revealed that it is necessary to carefully distinguish between myths and reality. The author's desire to understand the complex processes behind the emergence of new Roma localities in rural areas required a combination of working methods: The author analysed the national policy and regulatory framework and realized empirical research in five micro-regions in different parts of the Czech Republic. In addition to this, data were gained through the realization of a country-wide survey with two different sets of questionnaires, which targeted rural municipalities with socially excluded localities and urban social...
Russian speaking students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic. Educational migration and the role of the family in it
Kopecká, Liudmila ; Pinc, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee) ; Sidiropulu Janků, Kateřina (referee)
The PhD thesis "Russian Speaking Students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic: Educational Migration and the Role of the Family in it", examines the life of Russian speaking students, who come to the Czech Republic to obtain a university degree. It tries to answer several research questions. How is the decision taken to come to the Czech Republic? What kind of role does family play in the decision-making process and in further intentions/plans in the Czech Republic? What are the migration strategies of Russian speaking students in the Czech Republic? How do these strategies change over time? What connections exist between the life cycle of the student and the migration process? This is an anthropological, multisite field research, with participant observation being the core research method. As of 2015, 55 student research participants participated in the research (41 from Russia and 14 from Kazakhstan), with whom formal and informal interviews were made. Transnationalism and migration system theory have been used as theoretical concepts so as to better understand the student migration process.
Objective and subjective characteristics of sleep in chronic insomnia
Janků, Karolina ; Kopřivová, Jana (advisor) ; Papežová, Hana (referee) ; Šonka, Karel (referee)
Background: Insomnia is one of the most prevalent sleep disorders, negatively impacting the quality of life and increasing the risk of other health problems. Many patients with insomnia underestimate their sleep quantity compared to objective sleep measures. This objective and subjective sleep discrepancy (sleep misperception) occurs in different insomnia subtypes as well as in insomnia with a comorbid psychiatric disorder. Although previous research suggests that the sleep discrepancy reflects specific objective sleep alterations, the results of studies are inconsistent. Moreover, its relation to psychiatric comorbidities is not clear, as well as its role in the insomnia treatment. Aims: The theoretical part of the present thesis aimed to provide an overview of the recent research on sleep discrepancy in insomnia. The experimental part consists of four studies with the following goals: (1) to explore sleep electroencephalographic (EEG) correlates of sleep discrepancy in insomnia patients (Study 1); (2) to assess the association between sleep discrepancy and psychopathology (Study 2); (3) to examine changes of sleep discrepancy during and after the cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I; Study 3); (4) to assess whether the additional chronotherapeutic tool can enhance the effect of CBT-I...
