Hofman, Lukáš ; Novotný, Ota (advisor) ; Maryška, Miloš (referee)
This dissertation thesis deals with the topic of Business Intelligence and Balanced Scorecard and its use in České odborné nakladatelství, s.r.o., a relatively small company of 29 employees, which publishes magazines about business, gastronomy, textile, foods, hotels etc. The first part of my thesis describes the BI and BSC theoretically and offers a methodical basis for the following chapters. It gives the reader a definition and structure of BI, with access to a Data Warehouse including the fundamentals of building an OLAP database. It furthermore explains what BSC is, which perspectives use and what a strategic map is. The theoretical chapters of my paper will draw conclusions about the use of BI and BSC and the links between them. The practical, hands-on, chapters continue with the actual application of BI and BSC in the afore-mentioned ČON, s.r.o. It describes the goals and ambitions of the company, which are further on divided into individual strategic goals and metrics, fragmented into perspectives of the BSC and portrayed in a strategic map. Upon analyzing the demands of the company a BI framework is created, data sources are identified, Data Warehouse are designed and brought into effect. In the end a multidimensional OLAP cube is created with MS SQL Server 2008. Finally, there is a MS Excel 2007 explanation and interpretation of the measured values (reporting), which is taken from the available sources of ČON, s.r.o. and is compared against the set strategic goals and metrics of the company. The results of this thesis are based on actual demands of the company and are ready to be implemented and used in real-life.

How weight loss regimens change resting energy expenditure?
Kotrčová, Věra ; Hejnová, Jindřiška (advisor)
The dissertation work focusses on changes in resting energy expenditure during the reducing regimes. I have compared two groups of people - women in reducing regimes and men after strength training. My research confirms the following: within the women's group, there was a decrease in weight, thereby also a decrease in resting energy expenditure. On the contrary, a slight increase of resting energy expenditure can be observed within the men's group; however, it is not significant. There was no weight-decrease in this group, which is, in my opinion, caused by the changes in the body composition - above all, the increase of FFM.

Abuse of dominant position in EC Law and US Law
Funta, Rastislav ; Svoboda, Pavel (advisor) ; Smolek, Martin (referee) ; Tichý, Luboš (referee)
Competition/antitrust law rules are neccessarry for optimal functioning of the common market with its four fundamental freedoms (free movement of goods, capital, services and persons). Competition as a contention for superiority in the market place and antitrust as a study of competition mean more or less the same. Because markets are increasingly becoming multinational, lawyers and lawmakers can no longer content themselves with understanding only the antitrust/competition law of their nation. This study will discuss the most relevant issues of competition law (abuse of dominant position) in the European Union in comparison to the US American antitrust law: abuse of dominant position, how should the competition/antitrust law act by the abuse of dominant position by companies with a major market share as well as with the concentration appraisal which is one of the fundamental basis for the abuse in general. Throughout the different chapters it refers to several similarities and differences between the EU and U.S. systems. Substantial sub-part of the dissertation is the sanctions solution which are laid down by abuse of competition-legal rules as well as the development of the abuse of dominant position/competition law perspective. The aim of the competition legal regulation is not only the protection and...

Dementia in the Czech Republic: development, projection and risk factors
Cséfalvaiová, Kornélia ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Malá, Ivana (referee) ; Růžková, Jiřina (referee)
Doctoral thesis deals with dementia, which social, health and economic impacts are alarming worldwide. Expected dramatic increase in the number of people with cognitive impairment will put high demands on health and social care. Population aging and the increase of elderly persons aged 65+ evoked a need to address this issue, since age is the major risk factor for dementia. Conflicting conclusions of the European and international studies confirm the difficulty of quantifying the disease. Different definitions and measurement methods lead to different results. In the Czech Republic, in comparison with other developed European countries, there is no relevant research on the expected increase in the number of people with dementia or trends and determinants of severe cognitive impairment. Available estimates of the prevalence of dementia in the Czech Republic are based exclusively on the international prevalence studies EURODEM and Eurocode. Dissertation provides an estimate of the number of people with dementia in the Czech Republic to 2050 based on the construction of life tables for demented people. The thesis also includes analysis of risk factors of severe cognitive impairment based on socio-demographic and health variables. This knowledge is very important for the development and maintenance of effective policies and programs responsive to the needs of individuals living with cognitive impairment in the Czech Republic.

Automatic Analysis of Heart Rate Variability Signals
Kubičková, Alena ; Halámek, Josef (referee) ; Lhotská, Lenka (referee) ; Kozumplík, Jiří (advisor)
This dissertation thesis is dedicated to the heart rate variability and methods of its evaluation. It mainly focuses on nonlinear methods and especially on the Poincaré plot. First it deals with the principle and nature of the heart rate variability, then the ways of its representation, linear and also nonlinear methods of its analysis and physiological and pathophysiological influence on heart rate variability changes. In particular, there is emphasis on the metabolic syndrome. In the next section of the thesis there are compared and evaluated different ways of representation of the heart rate variability and further are tested selected methods of heart rate variability analysis on unique data from patients with the metabolic syndrome and healthy subjects provided by the Institute of Scientific Instruments, Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic. In particular, they are used the Poincaré plot and its parameters SD1 and SD2, commonly used time domain and frequency domain parameters, parameters evaluating signal entropy and the Lyapunov exponent. SD1 and SD2 combining the advantages of time and frequency domain methods of heart rate variability analysis distinguish successfully between patients with the metabolic syndrome and healthy subjects.
