Personal Notes on Reading in Primary Education action research
Mazourová, Lucie ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Štípek, Jiří (referee)
The present thesis focuses on the use of reading records in the Czech language and literature lessons at the first level of primary school in the implementation of reading lessons. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The main aim of the theoretical part is to define the basic concepts related to the topis, i.e. literacy, development of reading, motivation to read, reading diary, compulsory reading and reading records. The theoretical part describes specifically those reading records that are used in the practical part of the work, i.e. poster, letter to a character, graphic organizers, questions, double diary. The practical part was designed as an action research where reading lessons were designed and then taught in Year 4 of primary school, between October and December, in which a variety of reading records were used. A total of seven reading lessons were implemented, with the last, seventh, lesson serving as a reflective lesson. The output of each reading lesson was a worksheet along with the reading record. Based on the implemented lessons, it was investigated which reading records situ different types of pupils; which reading records pupils found stimulating and why; how pupils formulatd their thoughts and attitudes towards the books they read in the records, how they...

Development of reading and writing skills of 1st grade pupils: action research
Mostecká, Sabina ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Novotná, Kateřina (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on the development of reading and writing skills among primary school students. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the specifics of reading and writing literacy and the possibilities for developing these literacies. Part of the development of these literacies involves the development of individual skills related to reading and writing. The aim of the practical part of the thesis is to describe the relationship between the development of reading and writing skills among selected six students from the fifth grade of elementary school. To conduct the research, six reading lessons were designed and implemented during Czech language and literature classes (Muddled Kingdom, Neverending Story, Limericks, Strado and Varius, Wind Mailman, Unfinished Fairy Tales). In these six reading lessons, reading and writing skills were deliberately interconnected and developed. Each of the six implemented reading lessons had a writing output. Through the research methods used (content analysis of student products, observation, unstructured interview), I found that the development of reading and writing skills is closely related. Students who have developed reading skills generally produce quality texts as well. Furthermore, I found that the development of reading and writing skills...
Implementation of listening techniques into a primary school classroom
Jeřábková, Anna ; Poche Kargerová, Jana (advisor) ; Vallin, Petra (referee)
This thesis deals with the matter of listening skill as part of the communication key competence. The author does not target situations when the pupil listens to the teacher's speech, but situations when the elementary school classmates listen to each other. It is based on a long-term scientific discourse on the subject. The aim of this thesis is to first theoretically present the communication activity of listening as a fairly demanding process which, although requiring the same amount of attention and training as other communication activities, has been quite neglected on a global scale in the school curriculum. At the same time, the theoretical section puts forward specific proposals on how the listening skill of the elementary-school class collective can be supported and developed. The practical part, pedagogical action research, is based on theoretical knowledge. It aims to observe progress in communication focusing on listening skills between third-grade pupils, in a class where the author acts as a teacher's assistant. In total three periods of action research maintain a cyclical pattern of problem decsription, action plan, action and analysis. The research is supported by didactic games designed so that the skill of listening can be studied and developed by the pupils themselves. At the...
1st grade reading workshop: action research
Malínská, Dorota ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Novotná, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis stems from the necessity to guide and support students in reading from the beginning of compulsory school attendance. The theoretical part deals with the concept of reading, the development of reading literacy, and further describes methods and possibilities for further support and development of reading. An integral part for the development of reading literacy are libraries, which are also mentioned in the work. The last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on various options and perspectives on the reading workshop. The goal of the action research is to describe, through observation, how it is possible to firmly integrate the reading workshop into the schedule from the 1st grade of primary school based on personal experience and to suggest how further methods can support reading among 1st and 2nd grade students even more. Using findings from a completed parents' questionnaire, the empirical part responds to the research questions. The research showed that thanks to the early inclusion of the reading workshop, students were able to concentrate on the given reading and smoothly continue with the already mastered organization of the reading workshop within the 1st grade. Finally, it was shown that the conduct of reading workshops significantly increases positive experience of reading...
Problems of solving systems of polynomial equations in mathematics teaching
KÖNIGSMARKOVÁ, Soňa
The aim of this thesis is to map the current state of teaching and student problem solving strategies for polynomial equations. A substantial part of the work is devoted to the use of these systems of equations in solving problems of the loci of a given property at different types of schools. On this basis, where warranted, suggestions are made for enriching teaching in this area with methods reflecting current trends in the use of systems of computer algebra. Considering the above objectives, the author focuses on the current state of teaching systems of polynomial equations in terms of the methods of solution used at primary schools, secondary schools and faculties preparing teachers of mathematics. The author does not neglect the solution of more complex problems, especially problems of the loci of a given property, by future mathematics teachers. The potential of computer algebra systems for improving the current state is also mentioned. The thesis is divided into 9 chapters, with the first four chapters justifying the topicality of the topic. The historical development of the solution of problems on systems of equations and especially the current state of the subject from the point of view of the position of the curriculum and the occurrence of relevant problems in textbooks, entrance and final exams and in the Mathematical Olympiad are presented. Considering the topic of the thesis, examples of solving problems by elementary methods and methods based on the theory of Gröbner bases and the use of computer technology are given. The fifth chapter defines the objectives of the thesis. The next three chapters are devoted to the actual research at secondary and higher education institutions, which deals with the solution of systems of polynomial equations and the solution of problems of loci of a given property in terms of the choice of solution methods and the occurrence of errors in their use.The final chapter summarizes the research results and gives some recommendations for secondary school teaching and for the preparation of future mathematics teachers. Appendices contain an original and research-based draft of teaching material on methods of solving systems of polynomial equations and solving problems on sets of points given characteristics for gifted secondary school students and university teaching students.
