The influence of resilience social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra Ghana
Ahmed, Osman Abdul
ABSTRACT Domestic violence and abuse continue to be an issue of alarming concern for governments and nations across the globe because of the threats that it poses to victims psychologically and physically as well as the family, communities and the nation at large. Although many studies have been done on the subject, these studies focus mainly on the antecedents to abuse and its impact on the victims. Few studies have also focused on the punitive measures and the legal framework around which perpetrators of domestic violence are dealt with less focus on psychological, social and spiritual factors that can improve the wellbeing of victims. It is against this background that this study was conducted to examine the influence of resilience, social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra, Ghana. Using the biopsychosocial and spiritual theory of illness and wellbeing, a cross sectional survey was conducted by purposively sampling 100 victims of domestic violence and abuse (M= 28.57; SD= 5.55) within the period of September and October, 2021. The respondents filled questionnaires that examined resilience, social support, religiosity and psychological wellbeing. Results indicated that resilience (r = -.52, p < .001) has a significant negative relationship with wellbeing while social support (r =.48, p > .001) and religiosity (r = .53, p < .001) has a significant positive relationship with wellbeing. Both social support and religiosity predicted wellbeing in the victims of domestic violence accounting for forty-five percent of the variance in wellbeing scores of the victims (p<0.001, Adj. R2=0.45). It is discussed that psychological support be provided for victims and this support should focus on resiliency training, family and community support and spiritual and religious mindfulness. Limitations of this study are also discussed with recommendations to chart the path for future studies.

Values of alternative religiosity with contemporary young people
KOLMANOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of what values alternative religiosity brings to contemporary Czech youth. Traditional religion in the Czech Republic is on the decline, being replaced by new forms of alternative religiosity. The Bachelor's thesis first explains terms, such as faith, atheism, spirituality and religiosity, which is further divided into institutionalized and alternative forms. Spiritual needs of hospitalized patients
RACEK, Otakar
In my work, I deal with the topic of spiritual needs of hospitalized patients. The research was carried out with the help of semi-structured interviews with nine informants who have a certain relationship to spirituality. The aim of the research part of the bachelor's thesis was to find out what spiritual needs hospitalized patients have, to further compare the fulfillment of spiritual needs in religious and non-religious patients, and also to find out whether the Covid-19 pandemic affects the spiritual needs of patients and the possibilities of their fulfillment. In the theoretical part, emphasis is placed on the irreplaceability of spirituality in the holistic concept of patient care. Furthermore, technical terms are explained in order to better orient oneself in the issue. After that, the theoretical part of the work is oriented towards the spiritual care provided by chaplains or health workers - how they can provide spiritual support to sick people. In the work, space is also devoted to historical spiritual care. At the end of the theoretical part of the work describing the stages of spiritual development. In the practical part of the work, I analyze interviews with chaplains, nurses and patients in the area of spiritual needs for the assigned research questions. I notice how familiar the chaplains, nurses and patients are in the area of fulfilling spiritual needs. This work can be used in teaching as an illustrative example of the spiritual needs of patients. It can also help healthcare professionals to indicate spiritual care. The research revealed what patients' spiritual needs are, whether they differ depending on their religiosity, and also that the Covid-19 disease has caused an increased interest in fulfilling patients' spiritual needs.
Human Perception in Condition of Uncertainty: The Visual, Auditory and Embodied Responses to Ambiguous Stimuli
Boschetti, Silvia ; Flegr, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Palanza, Paola (referee) ; Pfaus, James (referee)
In order to orient ourselves in the environment our senses have evolved so as to acquire optimal information. The optimization, however, incurs mistakes. To avoid costly ones, the over-perception of patterns (in humans) augments the decision making. I tested the decision- making in two modalities, acoustic and visual. A set of stimuli (using computer-generated graphics, based on output from a very good pseudo random generator) was produced: masks with a random pattern with varying degree of transparency over geometrical figures were used, followed by similar task that involved black and white high-contrast patterns. In both cases, I was able to find, using a Bayesian statistical approach, that the ability to detect the correct pattern presence (or lack thereof) was related to respondents' thinking styles, specifically Rationality and Intuition. Furthermore, I used ambiguous facial expressions, and accompanying vocalizations, of high-intensity affects (pain, pleasure and fear) and low- intensity (neutral and smile/laughter). My findings evidenced that the high-intensity facial expressions and vocalizations were rated with a low probability of correct response. Differences in the consistency of the ratings were detected and also the range of probabilities of being due to chance (guessing). When...
Influence of Religiosity on Quality of Life of patients with Epilepsy
Kolská, Marta ; Javůrková, Alena (advisor) ; Nikodemová, Hana (referee)
Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the variables Locus of Control, God Locus of Health Control and religiosity predict the quality of life of patients with epilepsy and whether these variables differ in prevalence in a healthy control group. Methods: The research group consisted of 275 patients with epilepsy examined within the neuropsychological Centre for the Treatment of Epilepsy of the Department of Neurology, 2nd Medical Faculty and Motol University Hospital. The comparison group consisted of a group of 182 healthy respondents. Respondents were interviewed using WAIS-III, EPQ R abbreviated version, BDI-II, VAS, QOLIE-89 (version 1.0) and GLHC. The t-test and the Mann-Whitney test were used to determine differences between groups. Contingency tables were used for discrete quantities. The relationship between the variables was demonstrated by Spearman's correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression. The research was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Motol University Hospital. Results: The resulting model of stepwise linear regression prediction of the Mean score showed that by including the variables Neuroticism HS and GLHC˃6 in the overall model, these significant variables can explain 21.44 % variability of Locus of control (R2=0.2144). It was also found...
