The Transformation of the British Labour Party in years 1994-1997

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find the cause of success of the British Labour Party in general election in 1997. In addition to examining the assumptions for this victory the work also focuses on the search for the roots and the beginning of an ideological transformation "old" Labour Party into "new" called New Labour under Tony Blair in years 1994-1997. This paper applies case study metodology. In conclusion identifies the key moments of transformation and raises the question whether and to what extent this success can be generalized and applied to other social democratic parties.

Comparison of referendums on devolution in Wales

The bachelor thesis "Comparison of Referendums on Devolution in Wales" deals with the process of political devolution in Great Britain, or rather in Wales with emphasis on two referendums on this question, which took place in 1979 and 1997. The main topic of this work is an establishing of a relationship between central British and regional Welsh government that culminated in the origin of National Assembly for Wales in 1998. In the first referendum Welsh people expressed a negative attitude to devolution and in the second one they changed their mind about it and voted for devolution. The main goal of this work is to explain basic facts that caused the difference between the results of referendums. This comparative work determines criteria and through the analysis of them it gains characteristics of both referendums in which people voted on founding of the National Assembly for Wales. In its major part, the work deals with the comparison of referendums on the basis of their descriptions. The attention is put also on the development of political situation in Wales, which preceded declaration of the first referendum. The 2010 increase of tuition fees at British universities

The bachelor thesis is a case study based on an analysis of the problems of higher education in Great Britain. In the first part, it deals with the genesis of the decision of British government to increase tuition fees of public universities. This took place in 2010 in the United Kingdom (apart from free Scottish schools). The second part analyzes arguments for and against the tuition fee increase. The period studied is from May to December 2010, meaning, between the general election which concluded in the creation of a surprising coalition of Liberal Democrats and Conservatives, and the tuition fees vote in the parliament. The differing views on university funding and on educational budget cuts between the two governmental parties caused disagreements in the coalition as well as within the parties. Liberal Democrats had to solve the dilemma whether to support the decision of promoting fee increase and following the recommendations of Browne's Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance, or to fulfill their pre-election promises, which were basically founded on the rejection of tuition fees. Development of the electoral system of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and prospects on its potential changes

Aim of this bachelor paper is to observe the development of electoral system in Great Britain after the World War II and its parametric changes, effect of these changes on elecitons results and Political situation and to observe trends leading to possible change of the electoral system in Great Britain, that has been laid by the results of last elections. As method a case study will be used and as main resources I intend to use electoral statitics showing the gradual development of individual parameters of the British electoral system, monographies and research papers analyzing growing disproportionality of the electoral results and necessity (or unnecessity) of the change of electoral system. In the first part i will analyze general tendencies of the electoral system of Great Britain and its development after the World War II, czech and foreign literatury concerning the British electoral system will be used as resources. In the second part individual elections and its results will be analyzed, observing the influence and development against the last elections. For that I will use electoral statistics and analysis. Approach to University and Non-university Media Studies in the Great Britain and Germany

This Master thesis called Approach to university and non-university media studies in the Great Britain and Germany: A comparative study compares the approaches of Great Britain and Germany to tertiary education, which is thematically linked to the media. The thesis shows specific concepts in this field of study in two different environments that have developed under different historical circumstances and as a result of different processes of adoption of media studies as a university subject. The boundaries of this subject are not specifically stated, which provides countries with an opportunity to put their own concept into this subject. This thesis examines tertiary education connected to media institutions of higher education, within individual study programs, in leading professional publications, in the national assessment of educational documents and in approach of multinational organizations. The text defines relevant bodies and syllabi, identifying core competences of graduates of these studies, the processes through which they become experts and educational activities connected to media education. The Protest Movement of 1968 in Great Britain

This Bachelor thesis deals with the protest movement of 1968 in Great Britain while analysing its basis, particular examples and eventually its interpretation. The text is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, attention is given to the socio-political context of the protests, in particular to the transformation of the society occuring in the 1960s, the policy of the Labour Party, British New Left and the peace movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The second chapter reports on three anti-Vietnam war marches in London. The circumstances of the marches are mentioned here as well as leading persons who initiated them. The marches are examined separately, the third and biggest one most in detail. In the third chapter, the examples of student protests at British universities and colleges are described with special emphasis on their causes. Eventually, in the fourth chapter, the protest movement is interpreted, i.e. the arguments of critics are outlined, concidering protests reasonless and existing only due to the action of radical groups. The validity of this opinions is proved using particular examples of protests.

Ethical dimension of New Labour's foreign policy, 1997-2001: the case of international trade in arms

The aim of this thesis is to examine two main hypotheses, which are closely related to the ethical dimension that was for the first time introduced in 1997 by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robin Cook. Firstly, the work seeks to explore whether New Labour fulfilled obligations relating to its ethical dimension. These commitments are determined by the Western world's generally accepted values such as freedom, tolerance, democracy and justice. They are also determined by government statements and speeches. Secondly, the work is trying to determine whether the implemented policy differed from that of the previous administration of Conservative Party. The fulfillment of these hypotheses is examined in the area of the international arms trade. The time is defined by the first term of the Labour Party government between the years 1997 and 2001. Since the work deals with a large number of primary sources its basic method is analysis.

The Falklands War and its Impact on Domestic Policy in Great Britain

The main goal of my thesis is to analyze the influence and impact of the Falklands War on the domestic policy in Great Britain during the conflict and after the conflict. The main question is how much the Falklands War influenced the public opinion and if it was the major or minor reason why the Conservative party won the general elections for the House of Commons which was held in June 1983. To understand the chain of events and importance of the islands for both concerned countries (United Kingdom and Argentina) I describe the historical context of the Falklands dispute first. After that I analyze the complicated political development in Great Britain during the first Margaret Thatcher's electoral term. The analyses of the course of the war, international peacekeeping efforts and results of the conflict take place in the third chapter. The final and the most important chapter is about the impact and the influence of the war on the British domestic policy, public opinion and the elections in 1983.
