Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Department of inorganic and organic chemistry University of Montpellier Faculty of Pharmacy Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron, UMR5247 CNRS ENSCM, UM Candidate: Tereza Pavlíčková Advisor: Assoc. prof. PharmDr. Kateřina Vávrová, Ph.D. Supervisor: Dr. Céline Crauste Title: Synthesis of lipophenolic derivatives of hydroxytyrosol, resveratrol and phloroglucinol Lipophenols are conjugates of (poly)phenolic derivatives with a lipid moiety that are designed here to access lipophilic antioxidants. First part of this work targets olive oil lipophenols. Three new lipophenolic compounds, conjugates of hydroxytyrosol (most abundant olive oil phenol derivative) and three different unsaturated fatty acids were synthesized in two steps, in good yield and high purity. These products will be used as standards for determination of their presence in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and in liver samples of rats being fed by EVOO to examine possible in vivo metabolization. Second part of the work targets lipophenols as potential antioxidant and anti-carbonyl-stress agents in retinal diseases, where those factors are involved in the physiopathology. (Poly)phenols linkage to specific lipophilic FAs can increase their bioavailability, potentially...
Media representation of the Greek debt crisis: a corpus-assisted discourse analysis of the "Guardian" online news
Pavlíčková, Tereza ; Čermáková, Anna (advisor) ; Malá, Markéta (referee)
The thesis deals with discourse surrounding the topic of the Greek debt crisis (GDC) in the online version of the British daily newspaper the Guardian (www.theguardian.com). The study builds on a bilateral division of the EU public discourse on the economic crisis, distinguishing between two opposing perspectives: "the Northern diagnosis" (DeGrauwe 2011: 5) prevailing in Germany and other creditor states, and 'the Southern opinion' on the situation held mainly by the debtor countries. The thesis examines the position of the Guardian in relation to this bilateral discourse framework. The Guardian represents a liberal, socially aware and traditionally EU-supportive newspaper that is published in a country which counts among the Europe's leading economic and political powers, a country that is also characterized by strong Eurosceptic tendencies. These aspects form a complex background with regard to the EEC/GDC discourse framework. There are factors supporting both "the Northern diagnosis" of the GDC and those suggesting inclination to 'the Southern opinion'. The analysis, dealing with a self-collected corpus (altogether 349 texts, 277 973 words) consisting of the Guardian online news on the GDC is situated - both theoretically and methodologically - in the field of Corpus- assisted discourse studies...

Topographies of Culture and Identity: The Role of Landscapes and Cityscapes in Selected Film Representations of Ireland
Pavlíčková, Tereza ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Pilný, Ondřej (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis focuses on the role of landscapes and cityscapes in selected film representations of Ireland. It is the discipline of cultural geography which serves as the primary theoretical basis for this analysis. Firstly, the general observations concerning the social elaboration of place are applied within the particular cultural context. Thus, it becomes revealed that these socio- cultural practices bear a special significance in Irish culture. Apart from that, the thesis also fully delineates the complex nature of both the concept of Irish identity and Irish cinema. This account provides the basis for to the primary assertion that film portrayals of Ireland require strongly a wide, non-linear analytical approach. Importantly, the thesis also draws attention to particular cultural dichotomies which prevail within most realms of Irish society, showing a tension between its relationship to the present and the past. Within the context of film representation, this binary cultural perspective is then presented as a phenomenon which has had a significant impact on both the process of filmmaking in Ireland, as well as on the perception of produced films. Especially in the second case, the effect can be perceived as rather negative, since it prevents the realization of a fully non-exclusionary...
