Limits of free speech on social media

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the boundaries of freedom of expression on social media, which represent a significant present-day means of communication. As their social importance increases, so do the undesirable effects such as the spread of fake news and hate speech, presenting a challenge to be tackled. In some countries, certain measures to regulate social networks content have already been adapted. In the first section of the thesis, freedom of expression as a general concept is discussed. Special attention is drawn to its role in a democratic society, while at the same time mentioning its possible limitations. The second part is devoted to social networks as such, namely Facebook and Twitter. First, defining features of digital media in general are described, followed by the policies of individual social networks. The third part is devoted to the issues of personal rights violations, hate speech, pornography, and disinformation - occurrences that maybe in conflict with freedom of expression. These phenomena are observed in connection with the policies of individual social networks as well as the law of the Czech Republic. Transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism

Master's thesis transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism presents the phenomenon of citizen journalism (which thanks to the development of information and communication technologies has marked a steep increase) and how it changed the ethics of traditional media while reporting about terrorist attacks. The theoretical part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the concept of ethics with a focus on ethical principles in journalism. The second chapter defines the concept of media, puts emphasis on mass media and new media and their placement into the current media environment. The third chapter deals with the concept of citizen journalism and participatory journalism. It clarifies their definition, explains the differences between them, outlines their advantages and disadvantages and compares them with traditional media. The last chapter of the practical part deals with the term terrorism. This chapter defines terrorism, deals with its division and development stages and outlines its goals. The practical part examines, through a case study how traditional media behaves in relation to citizen journalism when referring to terrorist attacks and how they adhere or violate ethical standards when taking materials from amateur journalists. Ethical Dilemmas That Czech Journalists Face When Reporting on Medicine

The diploma thesis deals with the work of Czech health journalists. The main aim is to find out how they perceive their work. The author opens the first part by explaining some basic concepts of journalistic theory, such as news values and gatekeeping. She also deals with the definition of medicine and health journalism, with the relationship between medicine, the media and society, and draws attention to the issues that arise from informing about these topics. She attempts to clarify some problematic areas related to new scientific discoveries in which journalists may be mistaken. The next part of the diploma is the analysis of semi-structured interviews with Czech health journalists. The author focuses not only on their journalistic routines in the analysis, but also on importance of education, identifying the barriers of their work and ethical dilemmas they face.

In this bachelor thesis, I will concentrate on the topic of the clause or reserves of conscience of journalists as unused institute in czech journalistic self-regulation. Besides this topic the bachelor thesis will point out on if czech journalists use all their rights, especially the clause or the reserves of conscience or of the ethical codes are not used in the journalistic self- regulation. Journalists can be exerted to the pressure from the directory of media, or for example from the politicians. Journalists are supposed to work according to their best conscience because of their influence on the public life of the society. According to these reasons it is important to realize that journalists need a legal protection. This kind of protection is established in ethical codes in the self-regulation of media. Besides the elementary rights and obligations the clause or reserves of conscience can be established in the ethical codes, which guarantee journalists that they can refuse a work which is in the contradiction with their conscience or their moral values. Journalistic approaches in political-satirical TV shows in the USA

1 Abstract This thesis aims to examine the journalistic approaches in three American political satire television shows - The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight and The Late Show. The author searches the common features of the three examined shows, tries to characterize them, and place them into the media context of the United States of America. The author describes to the reader how these shows, through political satire, combine opinion journalism, investigative journalism and humour. Because this thesis deals with American shows, it mostly uses foreign professional literature. This work has two large parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical passage, the author tries to define satire as a genre, mentions its use in politics and the relationship satire plays between journalism and humour. The theoretical part continues with the description of the particular journalistic approaches used in these shows and contains the explanation of the position of the examined shows in regards to the approaches these shows use bordering between investigative journalism and comedic humour. Regionality in public-service television of selected 'European countries - comparative study

This diploma thesis focuses on history, position and activities of public service television broadcasters in selected European regions: South Moravia, Eastern Jutland, Andalusia and Scotland. In its theoretical section, we address the issue of the changing role of public service media in the era of technological convergence and new emerging opportunities in the environment of social media and other digital platforms. We also discuss the importance of regional television stations, studios and editorial offices from the viewpoint of both broadcasters and the citizens of particular regions. The empirical section consists of a comparative study focusing on the activities of Czech Television's studio in Brno, DR's production center in the Danish city of Aarhus, a regional station called TV2 Østjylland, RTVE's territorial center in Andalusia, a regional broadcaster RTVA and, last but not least, BBC Scotland. This master thesis focuses on the typology of researches that public service broadcaster Czech television uses to analyse audience feedback - measurement of ratings, contentment and public service. The thesis describes history of TV audience researches from beginnings to the present in Czechoslovakia and the Czech republic as well as abroad. It also mentions problems that the aspiration for perfection of measurement brings. This thesis also addresses the functioning of Czech TV's Research and analysis department and brings original research focused on the influence of survey results over the scheduling of ČT24 programme. The thesis further includes interviews with Renata Týmová, chief of Research and analysis department, and Zdeněk Šámal, manager of news and sports department.
Reflection of the Syrian Civil War in selected Czech Media

This thesis deals with the depiction of four important periods of the Syrian civil war in the selected Czech on-line media. Using the quantitative content analysis, it examines the news content in terms of topics and representation of conflict actors, as well as the representation of foreign media and news agencies a use of social networks. Goal of qualitative frame analysis is to examine coverage of the Syrian Arab Army siege of Zabadani and Madaya as well as the siege of Fuah and Kafraya by Syrian opposition forces. In addition to the frames used, the analysis found significant disparity in media coverage, despite a similar and interconnected fate of both besieged enclaves. Quantitative analysis revealed significant representation of western sources, predominance of the great power actors and rather negative image of the Syrian government as well as the Syrian opposition.
