Czech elementary schools in Jáchymov district 1918-1960 with special regards to Czech-German relations

Diplomová práce "České školství na Jáchymovsku 1918-1960 se zvláštním zřetelem k česko-německým vztahům" se věnuje historii českých škol, které navštěvovaly děti mezi 6 a 15 rokem života. Oblast se přibližně kryje se severní polovinou někdejšího okresu Karlovy Vary. Práce sleduje zrod českého školství vokolí Jáchymova po vzniku samostatného Československa, obecně se věnuje i českému menšinovému školství v převážně německy mluvícím pohraničí. Stěžejní část pak zkoumá přístup - oficiálních představitelů Československa na jedné straně a pohraničních učitelů na straně druhé - k německy mluvícím dětem a jejich vzdělávání po roce 1945. Závěrečné části jsou věnovány poválečným školským reformám a příklonu školství k propagaci komunistické ideologie v 50. a 60. letech dvacátého století.
Female education in the Czech countries in the 19th century and the break of 19th and 20th century

One of the key elements of the emancipation process of Bohemian women in 19th century was the beginning of girl's education. It represented an important role in the development of the society those days and helped to change the acceptance of the social role of women and girls. Graduation theses is focused on the development of girl's education at the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. Its aim is to cover the beginning of all types of secondary and technical schools and their specifics. Attention is also focused on beginnings of women's college education. Thesis is divided into four thematically different chapters. First one brings brief information about the emancipation process in the historical circumstances of the 19th century. Second chapter describes education of girls in the first half of the 19th century. Following chapter evaluates the development of the girl's education in the second half of the 19th century and contains a lot of information from this period. It brings information about Higher girl's school in Prague, educational activities of the women's clubs and also the foundation of the first Bohemian Grammar school in Prague. Education of bilingual children in preschool years

"Education of bilingual children in preschool years" is an academic paper concerning the educational and psychological aspects in the optimal education of bilingual children and children attending nurseries in a foreign language. This kind of education originates from the mental and emotional needs of preschool children. The theoretical section concerns the psychological development of children with an emphasis on language and communication. There is the unique situation of the bilingual person in a social, cultural and political context, then there are concrete methods of bringing up a child in a bilingual family and their doubts about bilingualism. The paper desribes the eduational functions of Czech and foreign (specifically English) language nurseries and the methods of teaching preschool children. The teaching of a foreign language in nurseries is preparation for future learning of foreign languages and the challenge of exploring other cultures. The empirical section of the paper describes the results of a small inquiry, realised by observing children in one Czech and two English nurseries. It was found that in some "English nurseries" the learning of language was overemphasised to the prejudice of other psychological needs of some children. The bachelor work is focused on the topic of Vietnam children at the Czech education system. The first part of this work tries to mention cultural-historical background of the Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic. It is concerning on the differences of the interethnical communication too. Second part of the work deals with the most important problems associated with the education of the Vietnam pupils and students and possibilities of their solution. This part also shows positives of the school as a factor of integration.
Teaching foreign languae to children with learning disabilities

Diploma paper primarily targets topic of teaching a foreign language to children with LD (learning disability). It describes basic rules, methods and problems of such teaching and presents examples for practical use. Secondly, the paper is also dedicated to LD's etiology, features, difficulties of various types of LDs (reading disability, writing disability, spelling disability), diagnostics, and shows possibilities of re-education and compensation of LD. It targets English language education and describes software which helps pupils with LD to acquire English speaking and writing abilities. The paper also reflects LD pupil in relationship with school environment. It contains empiric research with hypothesis of insufficient knowledge about LD in wide public. It presents fundamental information in a form of a leaflet (attachment No.1) and a set of a CD and a leaflet (attachment No.2). Their aim is to make this LD topic more popular and to increase knowledge about LD in wide public.
Josef Tuma

The diploma work disserts upon life and work of Josef Tuma (1865 - 1933). Its' object to describe the personage of country teacher Josef Tuma who operated in provincial of Kolin and later in Prague. The first chapter addresses personal life of J. Tuma, his study at teacher's institute in Kutna Hora and successive jobs at general schools in surroundings of Kolin. Further it is dedicated to the cooperation Josef Tuma with pedagogical associations and his work at Ministry of Education after formation of Czechoslovak republic. The second chapter is disserts upon the work of Josef Tuma who was engaged above all in "prvouka". His most known writing is "Vyučování prvouce na školách venkovských", but we can't leave out less known books or his preparation of programme for general schools. The last chapter contains meaningful pedagogical personages which influenced the life of J. Tuma.
Professional foster care - new alternative to the institutional care in Czech Republic

This diploma work with the theme of substitutional children's care in the context of actual situation in the Czech Republic when the care of endangered and abandoned children is mostly and practically solved by the inconvenient form of institutional education. This is the reason why in the introductory chapters there is mentioned the theme of family and its importace for satisfiing chldren's needs ; family and parental disorders; mental deprivation and subdeprivation in childhood and its prevention. In the part dedicated to substitutional children's care there are mentioned the most important problems of institutional education . There are also characterized different types of substitutional children's care which are currently being used in the Czech Republic. Ethnic identity of a gypsy child in an adoptive family

The graduation thesis treats of the theme of ethnic identity of a Gypsy child in an adoptive family. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the history of Czech Romanies and the framework of adoptive and foster care in the Czech Republic. The main chapter of the theoretical part discuss the question of identity, particularly ethnic identity and its formation. The empirical part discuss a research on formation of ethnic identity of an Gypsy Child in an adoptive family, realized by a questionnaire examination of adoptive and foster parents. The research consider the problems of the diversity of gypsy children, their origin or the importance of a contact with the original Gypsy community. One of the referenced questions is also the influence of racism upon the formation of ethnic identity.

The reginnings of higher education of women in Bohemia

This treatise deals with the subject of emancipation of Czech women in their struggle for higher education. First Part foreshadows the historic development of the position of the woman in the society from the earliest times to the end of the 18th century. Crucial is the part of the treatise describing the effort of the Czech women and men engaged in the struggle for secondary and tertiary female education. Focus is given mainly to the public school system. Private schools and associations and other institutions are mentioned marginally, in particular with regard to their importance during the subsequent evolution of the public school system. The efforts mentioned thereby are set in the social context of the region, in particular in the context of the national emancipation per se. Attention is given in part also to the conditions and circumstances of the similar struggle in the German and Jewish minorities living in the Czech lands. Finally, individual types of schools for women are dealt with, their particular organization and instruction, while pursuing their historical line up to the beginnings of the twentieth century.
