Burýšková, Kateřina ; Jagošová, Anna (advisor) ; Košťálová, Petra (referee)
This thesis examines the Masopust cultural event in Roztoky u Prahy. The author explores how this event is perceived by its participants, and primarily tries to answer the question concerning what symbolic meaning can visiting this event represent in their lives and whether they perceive this event as an important milestone they would not want to miss each year. Furthermore, the author explores these topics: do the participants actively take part in this event, how do they prepare for this event and whether it is important for them to wear a mask and why. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part examines the history of the carnival, both in the historical Czech lands, and in Roztoky. The practical part presents the results of the author's field research, conducted in the years 2022 and 2023. Celebrating Jewish annual feasts by the Czech Union of Jewish Youth
Moravcová, Anežka ; Janeček, Petr (advisor) ; Košťálová, Petra (referee)
Jewish festivities make an important part of Jewish culture. Their form has long stabilized and become fixed through years. This thesis would ascertain the importance of these festivities within the community of the Czech Union of Jewish Students, The community comprises persons from fifteen to thirty-five years of age. During my research there were sixty one members. These youths gather to celebrate important feasts in the Jewish year, and sometimes even to celebrate together the weekly feast of Sabbat with the comunity of Moishe house, as I was allowed to witness. This work examines the feasts through the concept of "performance", concept known from Victor Turner and widely used by Richard Bauman. The research was conducted by the means of empirical evaluation, structured dialogues, questionnaires. The study concludes the performance of these festivities shows signs of the so called "emergent quality", a term invented by Richard Bauman. This creative aspect is an important way of expressing and confirming the identity of the given community. It also reflects and reacts to the actual facets of the community, and so keeps its culture "alive". This work shows that celebrating the feasts with the Union may provide Jewish persons who do not belong to any strict division of Judaism with a sense of...

Jandák, Marek ; Klusáková, Luďa (advisor) ; Košťálová, Petra (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the analysis of reflection of the Armenian Question in crucial years 1878 - 1925. The main aim is to examine one historical issue on different levels with use of two case studies demanding different methodological approach. The opening chapter is focusing on the image of Armenians and Turks in Czech public sphere. The second part of my thesis is dealing with changing image of violence committed on Armenian population in the late Ottoman Empire in the Czech language daily Národní politika. In the third chapter I am paying attention to the writings of Czech traveler and humanist Karel Hansa. My study of the journal Národní listy is focusing on approach of the newspaper to mass violence and humanitarian problems and it takes a form of textual, quantitative and contents analysis. The chapter 4 about Karel Hansa is worked out in a narrative style with use of anthropological approach. My attention in both cases is focusing on phenomena of indifference or active help in the time of genocide and humanitarian crises through a prism of study with subtitle Psychic numbing and genocide by American psychologist Paul Slovic. Outcome of my research of Národní politika journal is that Czech society was remarkably passive and world news in the newspaper were quite unoriginal,...
Armenian-persian conflict (449-451): its religious background and reflection in early armenian historiography
Sochová, Anna ; Veselý, Rudolf (advisor) ; Pargačová, Viola (referee) ; Košťálová, Petra (referee)
Armenian-Persian Conflict (449-451): Its Religious Background and Reflection in Early Armenian Historiography Anna Sochová In 449-451 a conflict took place between Armenia (being at that time under Persian domination with the status of Persian province) and Sasanian Persia. The conflict was caused by efforts of Sasanian king Yazdgard II to convert Armenian population to Zoroastrianism. In order to unify his empire under the auspices of the Persian state religion, Yazdgard II appealed to Armenian magnates to renounce Christianity. Armenian magnates, however, decided to refuse the appeal on the council held in Artashat in 449. Yazdgard II, therefore, summoned the Armenian magnates to his court in Ktesifont to account for their disobedience to him. Magnates were constrained under Yazdgard's threat to outwardly renounce their faith and accept Zoroastrianism. The king sent them back to their homeland with the Magians to spread Zoroastrianism through Armenia. After returning home, however, the Armenian nobility distanced itself from Zoroastrianism and hoping for support from the Byzantine Emperor took a decision to revolt against Persians. The Armenian- Persian conflict culminated in Battle of Avarayr in 451 where Armenians were defeated. In the overall result, however, Armenians reached their goal...
Molokans in Russian Empire and in Transcaucasia
Svetlova, Yuliya ; Košťálová, Petra (advisor) ; Nykl, Hanuš (referee)
The Molokans are one of the most remarkable representatives of Russian sectarianism from the early 19th century, belonging to spiritual Christianity. Due to their isolation from the Russian Orthodox Church and different belief system, followers of the Molokan movement were expelled to the Transcaucasian countries, where they became a unifying element in the cultures of Russia and the peoples of Transcaucasia. This topic is an aspect of the current day question of relations between Russia and the countries of the Transcaucasia, which retains its importance today. This work examines the history of the Molokan community in the context of the history of three Transcaucasian countries: Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and also analyzes the role of this phenomenon in the Transcaucasian region. Keywords: Molokans, spiritual Christianity, Transcaucasia, sectarianism, Russian Empire, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, history
