Castles and their settlement context in the region of Benešov in the Late Medieval Period
Drášilová, Luisa ; Klír, Tomáš (advisor) ; Štefan, Ivo (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with castles in the Benešov region in the late MiddleAge. The primary goal was to create a more comprehensive picture of all the castles in use at the time and their location in the landscape. This created an image of the settlement in their direct surroundings. A separate chapter was dedicated to the more general history of settlement in the Benešov region. The whole territory was compared with other areas, and separately with the Doolin region in western Ireland, whose medieval settlement situation I also briefly described. Subsequently, the current condition of the selected castles was evaluated. An important goal of this work was also the application of the results in the form of a presentation of lesser-known archaeological sites to the public. A separate section at the end of the thesis was devoted to this goal.

Kolejáková, Klára ; Klír, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hasil, Jan (referee)
The focus of this bachelor thesis is focused on the settlement of Karlovarsko during the later Middle Ages (13.-15. century). The main goal was to evaluate and analyse pottery collections found at the castle Kostelní Horka (district Karlovy Vary) and at the castle Hartenberg (district Sokolov), and capture the progression of settlement of local landscape based on these findings. The study of archeological and other sources, which include History, Toponomasty and reconstruction of natural conditions, is an important part of this work, while the Art History proved useful as well. Results of this thesis generated an elaborate analysis of pottery groups, which were then separated to pottery sequence and its phases. These data complement the outline of local archeological chronology. Archeological digsites from various social enviroments, which bore findings with a particular degree of information value, were presented in order to illustrate a more complete image of the issue at hand. Furthermore the fundamental objective of this work was to understand the transformation of settlement and the process of colonization. Keywords: West Bohemia; Karlovy Vary; settlement; medieval archaeology; settlement history; castles and fortified manors; pottery; Middle Ages; 1200-1500

Zezula, Michal ; Klír, Tomáš (advisor) ; Starski, Michal J. (referee) ; Podliska, Jaroslav (referee)
Michal Zezula: Selected issues in the High Medieval transformation of the Moravian- Silesian border region (evidence from archeological sources) This study consists of three chapters and focuses on the Moravian-Silesian border region and its transformation during the High Middle Ages (in the 13th century). For most of the Early Middle Ages, this region lay on the boundary between the early Bohemian and Polish states, and after being annexed to the Přemyslid territories at the end of the 12th century it underwent fundamental changes, which are symbolized by the early emergence of institutionalized towns within the Bohemian Lands. The first chapter focuses on the Golensizi region in the Early Middle Ages, particularly on the village of Holasovice, which has attracted the attention of archeologists and historical researchers for over two centuries. Based on an assessment of older and more recent archeological discoveries and surveys, the significance of the location during the second half of the 12th century and the first half of the 13th century has been determined. Although there is at present no relevant archeological information which would provide evidence of the role played by Holasovice in the structures of the Piast state, its status as a local- level administrative centre in the Přemyslid-controlled...
