Innovation processes in the Czech and Bulgarian language situation (based on media language material)

The problems of the innovation processes in the present-day language systems have been essential to the current linguistic research. In general, this thesis is focused on a synchronic contrastive description of the types of innovation processes producing and inf1uencing the lexical dynamics of the Czech and Bulgarian languages. Doing so, it stems from the generally accepted view that, depending on the criterion applied, the individual innovation processes may be made correlative with various dynamic tendencies of a more complex and universal nature, L e. with signs of intellectualization and democratization, intemationalization and nationalization, terminologization and de-terminologization ofthe Czech and Bulgarian literary languages. Chapter I presents the methodological and theoretical starting points of the research. By means of a model designed by B. Havránek and developed by A. The Bulgarian neologisms in the fashion

Společenské a kulturní proměny, jež jsou pro země střední, východní a jihovýchodní Evropy typické na přelomu 80. a 90. let, přinesly výrazné změny a nová chápání prakticky do všech oblastí lidské činnosti. Nové období, jež bývá nazýváno transformací, případně v bulharském kontextu "přechodem", představuje do značné míry také přelom v tradičních chápáních jazykové situace. Je zjevné, že nové společenské podmínky budou v mnoha kontextech také znamenat pole působnosti pro nové lingvistické termíny a konkrétní slovní zásobu s nimi spojenou. V tomto smyslu je možno chápat jako neobyčejně specifickou oblast lidské činnosti módu a její reflexi v jazykové situaci. Ne jinak tomu bude i v prostředí bulharském. Na místě úvodu této předkládané práce lze s nadsázkou citovat myšlenku britského spisovatele Oscara Wilda, která o módě říká: "Móda je to, čím se fantastické stává na okamžik obecným." Zmiňovaný časový efekt se v plné platnosti dotýká také její jazykové reflexe. Móda a módní trendy s sebou jednoznačně nesou nové fenomény, jež musí být nezbytně také označeny módními pojmy - tedy terminologií, která v jazyce pohotově reaguje na všechny nejnovější jevy. Tentýž britský spisovatel v jiném citátu poukázal na onu časovost, proměnlivost a nestálost "módního života", neboť prohlásil, že "móda je tak netolerovatelná...

Language and National Identity. The Case of Language Policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The main objective of the thesis: "Language and National Identity. The Case of Language Policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina" is to demonstrate how language has been used as an instrument of national identity formation - ethnic or territorial - on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is achieved by the description of laws, foremost constitutions, concerning the use of language and by putting these laws into the context of the debate on the relationship between language and national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the principal assumptions in the thesis is that this debate is closely linked to a similar one which was developing in former (socialist) Yugoslavia and even in the 19th century. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one introduces the theoretical framework for the description of the language-national identity relationship. It defines the concept of nation, nationalism and national identity, their division into ethnic and territorial and describes the influence of language on development of such identities, especially in the case of language-based ethnic nations. Gallicismes in Bulgarian in the first half of the 20th century

A diachronic study comparing and contrasting French loanwords in Bulgarian during the 1st half of the 20th century. Research material is based on the dictionary of foreign words by Stefan Mladenov Речник на чуждите думи в българския език с обяснения за происхода и състава им (1932) and the contemporary dictionary Речник на чуждите думи в българския език (PERNIŠKA 2007). Words are compared and contrasted from the lexical, semantic, phonetic and morphological point of view. The results depict the role of French in the Bulgarian society, the evolution of the Bulgarian lexicology and the formal adaptation of the loanwords in the Bulgarian language system. The thesis also sums up current research of the French influence in the Bulgaria.

Language as the means of creating an image of Bulgaria in the minds od Czech population

Cílem mé diplomové práce je prozkoumat a popsat, jak je používán jazyk při vytváření obrazu Bulharska v soudobé české společnosti po listopadové revoluci. Toto téma je inspirováno příbuzností bulharského a českého jazyka a tím, jak tato příbuznost ovlivňuje kulturu, dějiny a tradiční vztahy obou národů. Po roce 1989 vlivem politických a ekonomických událostí nastaly jak v bulharské, tak v české společnosti velké změny, které sehrály důležitou roli pro vytváření současného obrazu Bulharska. "Publicistika informuje o aktuálních společenských a politických událostech a komentuje je."] Z tohoto důvodu jsem se rozhodla provést průzkum článků o Bulharsku v českém tisku, které vyšly v období od r. 1991 do r. 2005, a to ve čtyřech denících: Mladá fronta Dnes (dál MF Dnes), Hospodářské noviny (dál HN), Lidové noviny (LN) a Právo (před rokem 1996 - Rudé Právo). Tyto deníky jsem vybrala proto, že patří mezi čtvery nejpopulárnější české noviny a ovlivňují tedy největší okruh čtenářů. Z jazykového hlediska jsem se zaměřila na stylotvorné činitele v publicistice, užívání určitých lexikálních jednotek a jejich působení na čtenáře. Průzkum jsem nazvala "Bulharsko českýma očima". Našly v něm místo články, které měly zajímavý obsah, nebo ve kterých novináři při popisu Bulharska užívali charakteristické jazykové prostředky....

I-stem nouns in Old Czech. Morphology and foundation

This study is the first contribution to description of i-stem nouns in Old Czech in context of development in Slavic languages. That is why it is based on structural description of Common Slavic and formal development in Old Church Slavic in connection with category of noun gender. Description of i-stem nouns in special literature and the Old Czech Dictionary is assessed. Some conclusions on status of this declination in 13.-14. cent. and its representation in the Dictionary are mentioned.
