Intra-individual variability in perception of otherness

This dissertation focuses on intra-individual variability in the perception of otherness, specifically on the variability of experienced emotions toward diverse representatives of otherness in relation to attitudes and personality functioning. At the beginning of the thesis, the theoretical background is introduced, especially the concept of otherness. A total of 205 respondents from the general population and the population of people with mental disorders participated in the study. The research was conducted in three phases, and the results are presented in three studies. In the first phase, the semi-structured interview assessing the severity levels of personality functioning (STiP-5.1) was translated into Czech, and its psychometric properties were verified. In the second phase, the association between attitudes toward minorities and the level of personal functioning impairment was examined. The last, third phase focused on the intra-individual variability of experienced emotions (disgust, empathy, anger, compassion, pity, respect) toward different representatives of otherness (e.g., close ones, Romani, migrants, people with mental disorders) and its relation to personality functioning and attitudes, using the experience sampling method. The effect of group CBT psychotherapy on the level of functional personality skills in relation to identity in patients with neurotic disorders

This thesis aims to test the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy for hospitalized and outpatients at the National Institute of Mental Health who have been diagnosed with anxiety spectrum disorder. It focuses on mapping the patients' personal functioning in relation to the identity dimension. For this purpose, the semi-structured interview STiP-5.1 according to the alternative model of DSM-5 and the Personality Functioning Skills Scale LPFS-BF 2.0 were used.The literature review section focuses on the introduction of identity and its development as a lifelong process, introducing the different components of identity and relevant theories in contrast to the current conception of identity with regard to the research aim. Furthermore, space is devoted to the concept of neurotic disorders classification systems and their characteristics in terms of personal functioning and identity. Subsequently, the concept of personality functioning and the theoretical background of the alternative DSM-5 model on which it is based are introduced. Attitudes of women with borderline personality disorder to otherness

This thesis explores the attitudes of women with borderline personality disorder towards otherness. The aim of the thesis was to explore the relationship between different personality characteristics of five women diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and their attitudes towards themselves and representatives of otherness. For these purposes, the Semi- Structured Interview for Personality Functioning (STiP-5.1) assessing personal functioning in the personal and interpersonal domains and the experience sampling method (ESM) were used, through which the respondents recorded the intensity of emotions felt towards themselves and various representatives of otherness for 30 days. The data were processed qualitatively into five case studies. The results indicated significant intraindividual variability in emotions toward self and representatives of otherness. The methods could find application in the treatment process and therapy, whereby assessment of personality functioning could contribute to the overall current picture of the patient and the variability of their psychological attitudes in response to certain life events could be monitored using ESM. Integrity and social desirability in psychiatric in-patients

This thesis deals with two constructs - social desirability and integrity. The main aim of this thesis is to create an interview which will allow to distinguish people by their level of integrity and their tendency to respond in a socially desirable manner. The interview can serve as a face-to-face variant of questionnaire methods. Theoretical foundations of both social desirability as well as integrity are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. Complexity of both constructs is considered. Therefore, approaches of various authors are presented. Methods for assessing socially desirable responding in self- reports as well as integrity are also presented as part of the theoretical section of this thesis. The effects of social desirability on integrity assessment is discussed, as well. In the empirical part of the thesis the development of the semi-structured interview is described. The interview was developed based on original Czech test battery focusing on personal integrity at the workplace. Specifically, questionnaire Integrita v pracovním a běžném životě alongside with questionnaire assessing social desirability was used.
