The critical reception of the novel Sekyra in contemporary cultural periodicals
Beranová, Monika ; Batistová, Anna (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on contemporary literary critique of the work of Sekyra from 1966. The author of the novel, Ludvík Vaculík was in the 1960s in the center of attention due to his journalistic activity, which was in conflict with the regime. Vaculík's attitude to the regime and to the Czechoslovak Communist Party evolved during his lifetime and influenced his literary and journalistic work. The analysis is complemented by an overview of his personal life, which determined the direction of his work. The essence of the work is the evaluation of contemporary literary reviews of the work, which appeared in various periodicals. The periodical analysis supplements the historical context of the political events in the 1960s, since the events of the era are crucial for the periodical reception of the novel.

The author deals with the coming of a sound film and its reviews in the contemporary Czech art and film magazines. The first part describes development of film and film art from its beginnings in the late 19th century to the time just before the coming of a sound film at the turn of the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. The author also describes the evolution of the sound technology in the film and the coming of the first sound films including problems which this change has brought. In the practical part the author examines articles about this topic in the Czechoslovak art magazines using the qualitative analysis and describes the media image of the sound film at the time of its boom. The thesis describes main themes in those articles - the artistic quality of sound films, the future of the sound film, the sound film and the theater and international character of the film - and several related subtopics and ideological streams. He also finds out that the criticism of the sound film at those times is mostly negative, but despite that, its future development and existence had been expected. Author's book in the works of Petr Nikl and Petr Sís and its media response
Němečková, Sára ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Batistová, Anna (referee)
The thesis deals with the media reception of selected works by Peter Sis and Petr Nikl within the Czech and the American media. It is the books The Three Golden Keys and The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain by Peter Sis and the books Záhádky and Linguistic Fairy Stories by Petr Nikl. A secondary concern was given on the media image of the Czech authors' books and the literary awards that are awarded in the Czech republic, such as Magnesia Litera or the Golden Ribbon. A qualitative analysis was used on the articles which were obtained through the Newton databases in the case of the Czech media. In case of the American media the articles were obtained through Google and the EBSCO and JSTOR databases. One of the surprising findings was that there was more focus put on the selected topic within the regular daily newspapers and the mainstream media, rather than within serials that are mainly focused on literature and culture. Also the hypothesis was confirmed that an author's success in the area of literary awards leads to an increase in the intensity of media reception.
