Jílková, Lucie ; Nekvapil, Jiří (advisor) ; Hoffmannová, Jana (referee) ; Zeman, Jiří (referee)
This dissertation is devoted to the analysis of selected internet texts which touch upon the topic of the forrner concentration camp at Lety u Písku or the Romany Holocaust on the territory ofthe forrner Czechoslovakia in general. The texts analyzed are divided into two groups. The first of these represents the minority discourse, i.e. it is a group of texts published on an internet server devoted to the Roma in the Czech Republic, providing information on the history and current situation of the Romany minority, on various Roma organizations, and the like. The second group, majority texts, included those published on ordinary news servers (e.g. www.lidovky.cz). Part II, Romany predicates and Lety camp predicates, answers the following research question: For what communicative aims do speakers and writers use Romany predicates and Lety camp predicates? In the case of the Romany predicates, it was deterrnined that the communicative aim ofthe speakers and writers from the first group (the minority discourse), which they achieved through the use of a Romany predicate, was the attempt to draw attention to the overall unsatisfactory situation of the Roma in the Czech Republic, while a part of this unsatisfactory situation is also the unwillingness ofthe majority society to deal with the issue of the Roma...

Stable isotopes in study of diet in Ursidae, including fossil taxa.
Marková, Aneta ; Horáček, Ivan (advisor) ; Čermák, Stanislav (referee)
Composition of food of members of the family Ursidae is often discussed topic. Up to now, however, there is some uncertainty about the trophic level of some fossil groups. Very useful method which helps us to determine the trophic level of the fossil species and determine the relative proportion of plant and animal components in the recent ones is the analysis of the stable isotopes. This study summarizes present state of methodological approaches and possibilities of use of the stable isotopes 13 C and 15 N in the study of foraging ecology of bears. The results of the analysis of stable isotopes are presented together with results obtained by other methods. Attention is paid to groups for which the relevant isotopic data are available, with special emphasis on the cave bear, which trophic level is evaluated on the basis of stable isotopes analysis as well as in the evolutionary and nutrition context.

Kolářová, Kateřina ; Tobrmanová, Šárka (advisor) ; Beran, Zdeněk (referee)
This is a theoretical and empirical work. It principally encompasses an analysis, description and comparison ofthree translations of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, by František Noska (1946), Božena Šimková (1949) and Eva Kondrysová (1967). The introduction briefly sets out the reasons for the selection of the theme and outlines the goal of the work. The work also concentrates on the circumstances surrounding the emergence of Pride and Prejudice and the reception given to Jane Austen' s novel. Particular attention is paid to the periodical context and the related changing critical responses to, and views on, the value of Jane Austen's literary work in an Anglo-Saxon and Czech environment. The work inter alia strives to identity how the Czech reception differs from the Anglo-Saxon one, and what features are specific to the Czech reception. Jane Austen' s work i s pro ven to ha ve attracted incomparably less attention in the Czech cultural sphere than in the Anglo-Saxon milieu, primarily for cultural and political reasons. There is then a thematic and stylistic examination of Pride and Prejudice, with a special focus on irony and the dialogical and epistolary form; the results of which are subsequently used in a contrastive analysis and evaluation of the three Czech translations of Pride and...

The Possibilities to Influence the Response of Innate Immune Cells to Gliadin
Drašarová, Hana
Gluten sensitive entheropathy - celiac disease is a lifelong, genetically predisposed, immunologically mediated susceptibility to dietary wheat gluten, most frequently demonstrated by small-bowel damage and malabsorption syndrome. Strict adherence to gluten-free diet is the sole rational therapy of the disease. One of the possible therapeutic strategy for the treating of celiac disease is to utilize the synthetic polymer P(HEMA-co-SS). This polymer is capable specifically bound gliadin in gastrointestinal tract and by this way to neutralize the damaging effect of this alimentary protein on mucosa of small intestine in celiac patients. The in vitro study on human PBMC and specimens of small intestinal biopsies of celiac patients in our laboratory demonstrated that putative therapeutic ability of P(HEMA-co-SS) is substantially influenced by degree of proteolytic processing of gliadin and P(HEMA- co-SS) and also by different timing of per os administration of both components in organism. Another putative adjuvant therapy of celiac disease is employing of the beneficial probiotic bacterial strains. Our experiments were based on the findings of Prof. Y Sánz and her group demonstrating the significant differences in the composition of bacterial microflora in patients with active form of celiac disease,...
