Quality of life of young adults with mental retardation
Kollerová, Lenka ; Strnadová, Iva (advisor) ; Černá, Marie (referee)
The thesis focuses on quality of life of persons with intellectual disability during the period of young adulthood. In theoretical part I deal with the topics "who is a young adult with intellectual disability" and "what issues does he/she face in this life stage". I engage in contemporary concepts and approaches to quality of life and choose some of them as crucial for my work. The primary focus is given to one of the eight domains of quality of life (according Schalock's concept) - self-determination. Empirical part deals with qualitative study that was carried out in the form of a semistructured interview with people with intellectual disability and that is focused on two major areas. The first area refers to a subjective satisfaction with a fulfilment of person's most important targets, the second area concerns with decision making and autonomy (two indicators of self-determination). The work brings information about notions of the independent (self-managed) life, the work-life and the partnership of persons with intellectual disability. My aim was to notice a subjective sensation and gain deeper insight into the individual experience of the respondents. 2

Education of children of foreing nationalities at Czech schools
Rabe, Nina ; Váňová, Miroslava (referee) ; Mazáčová, Nataša (advisor)
In the theoretical part of my thesis I address the issue of minorities and the members of minorities and their specific educational needs. I share the experience I gained at the international school, Riverside School, where I performed my practical teaching and taught for a further semester. I draw upon the variety of experiences of teachers and pupils. I describe the situation regarding the education of foreign children in the Czech Republic and at the end of the theoretical part I outline the situation in the United States of America. In the empirical part I attempt to determine by means of a questionnaire survey to what extent teachers and schools are prepared for their work with foreigners, whether they have a support system and whether they consider the phenomenon of foreign children at Czech schools to be a problem. In the end I compare the situation at Czech schools with the situation at schools in the USA.

Dynamics of Development of American Political Parties
Pecka, Jiří ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; Hadley, Charles (referee)
Schizophrenia, it might be this psychiatric term that enters one's mind when an amateur observer is asked to describe the contemporary nature of major American political parties in one word. Such an uncomplimentary connotation has its rationale, and, at first sight, the American party system indeed may remotely remind of this ambivalent psychological disorder. Its "Jekyll and Hyde" character can be illustrated by the simple fact that, for example, before the 2000 presidential election, according to a Gallup Poll, 67 percent of the electorate supported the idea of a third party, but, at the very election, only 3.8 percent actually voted for a third party candidate.1 Also, Americans commonly complain that "there ain't a dime's worth of a difference between the political parties"2and they even compare them to two famous brothers from Lewis Carroll's Alice in the Wonderland - Tweedledum and Tweedledee; however, if we analyze the floor voting in recent Congresses, we can discern unprecedented high partisan voting patterns which demonstrate deep loyalties of the individual congressmen and senators to their parent party. Moreover, there exists a common feeling of apathy among American voters because, according to them, political parties are too remote, and they do not address their needs but, at the same time,...

Professional interpreter in the 21st century: new technologies and social networks
Stoklasová, Hedvika ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor) ; Mraček, David (referee)
The topic of this master's thesis is new technologies and social networking sites in the field of interpreting. The theoretical part discusses how, over the course of time, technological advances have altered not only the face of interpreting itself but also the way interpreters work, and presented them with new possibilities. This part also briefly deals with the history and functioning of social networks, namely Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and examines the possibilities social networking sites offer in terms of marketing. The empirical part presents conclusions drawn from the study. The purpose of the study was to determine general tendencies in the use of new technologies and social networks by Czech interpreters. The questionnaire distributed online focused mainly on the following points: ownership of smartphones and tablets, awareness of technical novelties in interpreting, use of social networks for professional and marketing purposes. A total of 150 people took part in the study. The analysis of collected answers revealed that the number of tablet or smartphone owners amongst the participants is quite high, that participants are skeptical towards nontraditional ways of interpreting and that interpreters use social networking sites rather for communicating within the interpreting community...

Economic Research Bulletin (2016, No.2). Volume 14, Number 2, November 2016, Financial Cycles and Macroprudential and Monetary Policies
Česká národní banka
Issues connected with the financial cycle have gained prominence in recent decades, as they form the key component of the time dimension of the newly formed macroprudential policies. Analysis of the financial cycle covers a combination of purely theoretical models (explaining different channels of propagation of the financial cycle to the real economy) and practical applications estimating the financial cycle (directly applicable to macroprudential policies such as the setting of countercyclical capital buffers). Financial cycle issues also influence the debate of the interaction between monetary and macroprudential policies. This edition of the Bulletin presents four articles that address financial cycle issues. Two of them are theoretical, one is purely empirical and one covers issues related to the interaction of the different policies conducted within the central bank.
