Morphemic structure of contemporary Czech: from linguistic theory to automatic language processing
Lebeda, Jiří ; Petkevič, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kučera, Karel (referee)
The morphemic research of the Czech language witnessed its largest boom in the 1960s and 1970s. Since the appearance of Retrográdní morfematický slovník češtiny (1975) by Eleonora Slavíčková and of Komárek's Příspěvky k české morfologii (1978), the interest of researchers in this area of linguistics has been waning. The leitmotifs of all nine chapters of this monograph are an attempt to defend morphemics as a stand-alone discipline, an evaluation of the theoretic and empirical knowledge gathered so far, and the justification of formal computer processing as the only promising approach for the future. The interdisciplinary character of the present work manifests itself in the search for impulses for proposing an algorithmic approach to morphemic analysis and synthesis - which is the culmination of the monograph - e.g. in cognitive sciences and general semiotics. An examination of the main principles of how the mental lexicon works, including the theory of activation of language units, shows that a computational approach to traditional linguistic topics and methods can borrow inspiration not only from theoretical fields. The central term, namely morpheme, which is realized as morph in the language usage, is widely believed to have been introduced by Jan Baudoin de Courtenay in the 1880s. Using the great...

Fungal genetics, genome evolution and use of flow cytometry in study of DNA
Würtherlová, Tereza ; Kostovčík, Martin (referee) ; Kolařík, Miroslav (advisor)
The fungal genome is a dynamically changing structure. By its remodelling, the organism can respond to the environmental changes and develop itself. The genome expansion is often accompanied by transition to parasitic or mutualistic way of life. The genome expansion can be caused by the multiplication of some chromosomes (aneuploidisation), the whole genome duplication (polyploidisation) or the spreading of repetitive sequences. The impact of genome size to the ecology and life strategy of the organisms is more and more studied in recent years. In mycology, nevertheless, it escapes sufficient attention. The flow cytometry (FCM) is a modern and progressively developing method that enables to determine the genome size and estimate CG/AT base ratio. The combination of FCM with knowledge of the fungal ecology and forces that form the genome enable to discover a general trends of the evolutionary processes. My study summarises knowledge about the processes leading to changes in the size/structure of the fungal genome, the correlations with genome size and presents the principle of flow cytometry and its application in mycology.

Ptinciples of semiotic analysis of comics
Přibyláková, Martina ; Nekvapil, Jiří (referee) ; Palek, Bohumil (advisor)
The first part of the thesis is concerned with the theory of comics. The author considers the concept of graphic space of comics as a basic notion of the presented theory. On the basis of graphic space it is possible to introduce the individual concepts of the comics theory, namely comics sign, comics word, comics image. The author introduces the new concept of "prototypic" comics scheme which serves as the basis for comparative analysis of an old Czech comics Rychlé šípy with modern adult comics. The concept of comics image is viewed by some theoretical approaches of pictorial semiotics (Eco, Goodman, Snesson), and Peirce's general semiotics, and film semiotics. The comics image is defined as rhytmical plural multidimensional comics structure. The thesis is concerned with its various structural dimensions and their units. In the second part, some of the theoretical concepts introduced in the first part are applied in the comparative analysis, which focuses on some devices used in a famous old Czech comics Rychlé šípy by J. Foglar, and in modern adult comics (the corpus of the chosen Czech and worldwide comics is included in the present work). The parameters for the comparison are: comics cover, graphic space, comics time, interiorisation and animisation of exterior, chromatic coding, picture-verbal...

The structure of interests and the possibilities for its development in a gifted child in organized education
Heráfová, Zuzana ; Pelikán, Jiří (referee) ; Krykorková, Hana (advisor)
This thesis comprises both the theoretical and empirical aspects. The theoretical part focuses on the latest developments in the research of gifted children. It attempts to formulate their characteristics, problems and education-specific requirements. Timely identification of a particular gift as well as a positive approach of parents, school and teachers are crucial for further development of each particular gift. In connection with this approach, potential improvements and further development of education system and school care are outlined. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the issues of interests and their structure from the psychological point of view in general. The empirical part logically follows. Empirical inquiry analyses the interest structure of gifted children and proposes a diagnostic project, which would enable, especially the teachers, to recognize and encourage the interests of the gifted.
