The Landscape of the City of Brno
Buček, A. ; Havlíček, M. ; Kirchner, Karel
The landscape of the Brno City is a landscape of connections and contrasts, distinguished by marked geodiversity and biodiversity. This phenomenon is significantly governed by the geographical position of the City situated at the boundary of two major natural (physicogeographical) units of Europe: the Hercynian Central Europe area and the Alpine-Carpathian area. The landscape units were delineated on the basis of geomorphological classification because relief is relatively the most stable and often determining constituent in the process of shaping natural and cultural landscapes. The classification of landscape units consists of basic data (area, position, homogeneity or heterogeneity), an outline of main features of particular landscape components (georelief, climate and waters, soils, biota) and an evaluation of settlement conditions and land use in the past and in the present.
