Inequalities for talented pupils of high schools
Šalom, Pavel ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
The thesis contains a textbook for high school pupils. The aim of the textbook is to teach the reader how to solve problems concerning inequalities proposed at czech or international mathematical competitions for high school pupils. In the first part we present some basic ineqaulities (AG, Cauchy's inequality) and we show how to understand them and how to use them. In the second part we broaden reader's horizon by presenting rearrangement and Jensen's inequality. In the third part we present widely applicable methods such as "Abstract Concreteness Method" or "Sum of Squares Method". Some techniques concerning the Sum of Squares Method were written by Phan Kim Hung in 2006. We are trying to significantly involve the reader. We prefer just hints to many of the proposed problems rather than complete solutions and we give some harder problems to solve at the end of each part. 1

The effect of elevated CO2 concentration and irradiation on quantitative parameters of mesophyll cells of Norway spruce
Kubínová, Zuzana ; Albrechtová, Jana (advisor) ; Radochová, Barbora (referee)
KUBÍNOVÁ, Zuzana. The effect of elevated CO2 concentration and irradiation on quantitative parameters of mesophyll cells of Norway spruce. Prague, 2010. 74 p. Master's degree thesis. Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. Abstract The aim of the present thesis was to choose and adjust a suitable methodology for counting particles in 3D space, which would be suitable for unbiased estimation of chloroplast number in needle mesophyll cells. The disector method was used for the first time to determine the number of chloroplasts. This method enables unbiased estimation of chloroplast number in needle volume from optical sections captured from fresh free-hand sections by confocal microscope. The sections did not need any pre-processing. Another aim was to compare selected photosynthetic and anatomical characteristics of sun and shade Norway spruce needles, which were grown under different CO2 concentration. The trees were grown for eight years in ambient (during the experiment increasing from 357 up to 370 µmol CO2 ∙ mol-1 ) CO2 concentration or elevated (700 µmol ∙ mol-1 ) CO2 concentration in special glass domes on an experimental research site of the Institute of Systems Biology and Ecology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic at Bílý Kříž in Moravskoslezské Beskydy mountains. The sun needles...

Comparison of foreign language skills between nursing staff in medical workplaces in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria.
BOŽOŇ, Jiří
Communication is one of the cornerstones of nursing, and without good quality communication, it can be very difficult to provide good quality nursing care. In doing so, any of the communication barriers can significantly affect the outcome of the entire communication. Nowadays, the number of treated and hospitalized foreigners in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries has been growing, and each of us can get into a situation where we might be forced to seek help in medical facilities. One of the communication barriers may be a language barrier. The aim of the research was to map and compare the knowledge of foreign languages among the nursing staff in selected health facilities in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Another objective was to determine the readiness of selected health facilities in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria to communicate with foreigners. To obtain the necessary data, two types of research were used. Quantitative research was conducted in the form of a non-standardized anonymous questionnaire. Questionnaires were statistically processed and graphically evaluated. Qualitative research was carried out by a short non-standardized interview where the main topics of conversation were the opportunities of nursing staffs in medical facilities to communicate with foreign patients, and the opportunities for further language training while performing their profession. The research group consisted of nurses from selected health facilities in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. The research was conducted in two health facilities in each of these countries; a total of six health care facilities. From October to November 2015, a total of 300 questionnaires were distributed. Each of the six health care facilities got 50 questionnaires, ie. a hundred questionnaires to each of the aforementioned countries. 80 questionnaires from the Czech Republic (80%) were returned, 55 questionnaires from Germany (55%) and 78 questionnaires from Austria (78%). After the removal of incomplete or incorrectly filled items, the final number of used questionnaires were 72 from the Czech Republic (100%), 50 from Germany (100%) and 67 from Austria (100%). The research sample group consisted of head nurses or managers and heads of nursing departments (Pflegeleiter/in, Pflegedirektor/in) in the hospitals where the research was conducted. The results of the research survey showed that there were differences in language proficiency among the members of nursing staffs, and that members of the nursing staffs in selected health facilities in Germany and Austria were prepared especially for communication with foreign patients who speak English. Czech staffs were prepared to communicate with patients who speak German, but English or Russian to a lesser degree. Another part of the survey dealt with the readiness of selected medical devices to communicate with foreigners. The results showed that the selected health care facilities where the research was carried out were with one exception ready to ensure communication with foreigners in providing good quality treatment. The results of the research point to the fact that the language skills of nursing staffs are indeed very important when communicating with foreign patients, but they usually speak onlycommonly used languages. When a foreign patient speaks the language spoken by only a few staff members or even none of them, it is essential that the hospital provides communication with foreigners to be able to provide good quality treatment.

Value inclinations of czech journalists on example of socially marginalised squatters
Havlíková, Magdalena ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
In my work I am dealing with the value inclinations of Czech journalists from the newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes, the tabloid Blesk (including the Sunday issue Nedělní Blesk) and the magazine Reflex. I have focused on the articles written about socially marginalized squatters in the years 2000, 2008 and 2009. I am interested in the values present in this discourse and what position will these values take towards squatters. In the theoretical part I explain concepts like hegemony, binary us-them, moral panics and body discipline, which will help me in my analysis. Recognized values are put into categories and subcategories according to their content. I describe the development of values within categories in different years. Finally I compare the values of the analyzed media.

Commented translation: Women Artists Then and Now: Painting, Sculpture and the Image of the Self (In: Linda Nochlin: Global Feminism: New Directions in Contemporary Art. Merrell Publishers, 2007. ISBN-13: 978-1858943909, pp. 47-64).

This thesis consists of a transaltion of a chapter written by the American feminist art historian Linda Nochlin called Women Artists Then and Now: Painting, Sculpture and the Image of the Self from Global Feminism: New Directions in Contemporary Art and a commentary on various aspects of the process. The concept of translation was created upon the basis of an extratextual and intratextual analysis, and the following principles for work with the text were layed down: The fact, that the percipient of the original and the translation text differ in their cultural backgrounds, is considered in the translation, and names which are less known in Europe are accompanied with intratextual explanatory notes. The publicistic genre disposes of different means in the source and the target languague. The high level of expresivity and subjectivity of the originial text is substituded by more formal means in Czech which, nonetheless, provide the same function and therefore represent functional substitution. These steps lead to preservation of the thematic content and the effect of the translation on the percipient is the same as that of the original text on the original reader.
