Abundance of pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) in the selected locality in South Bohemia
TULACHOVÁ, Marie
The freshwater pearl musel (Margaritifera margaritifera) is critically endangered species. Its survival depends on the abundance of host fish (Salmo trutta m. fario), on which early mussel stages parasitize. More important is to preserve suitable environment of unpolluted cold rivers with corresponding extensive management of surrounded landscape. To preserve population of pearl mussel in Czech Republic it is essential to describe environmental conditions necessary for its survival. In this study, we observed the influence of water temperature on the abundance of populations of pearl mussel and the individual quantity change after introduction of a new nutriet source. This source is represented by the nutrient stream, flowing through the adjacent grassland with the wide outfall into the river. For the monitoring, the pearl mussels were distinguished into two groups: juvenile and adults forms. The results were evaluated for the both groups separately. We found significant difference between each year, for both, juvenile and adult stage. The year 2009 was an exception, because the difference in the number of adults was not observed. We noticed substantial increase of the number of observed juvenile individuals during summer. The quantity was in direct proportion with the water temperature, but the influence of tempeature was not statistically proved.

The figure drawing and people with Alzheimer's disease
BALOUNOVÁ, Kateřina
The bachelor thesis deals with the typical characters of a figure drawing of people with Alzheimer's disease. The theoretical part deals with the aging in general, and with the changes that occur in older age. Furthermore, the work deals with dementia as one of the most common roots of Alzheimer's disease, which is described and studied in greater detail. The work describes its general characteristics, causes, occurrence and with the changes in the brain caused by the disease. Moreover, it also defines the stages and the main characters of the illness. The work looks briefly at the drawing and its development, a figure drawing and colours in drawing. The practical part of the bachelor thesis is devoted to the analysis of the signs in 26 drawings drawn by seniors with Alzheimer's disease and compares them with the drawings created by non-diagnosed persons over 65. These characters are also divided into the groups according to the Mini-Mental State Examination test. The drawings created by the informants are attached to the study

The metaphysical detective story in Paul Auster's The New York trilogy and Thomas Pynchon's The crying of lot 49
Buršíková, Marika ; Robbins, David Lee (referee) ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor)
While the first two chapters of the thesis provide the necessary theoretical framework concerning the classical detective story and the metaphysical detective story, in the third chapter this framework is employed to analyze the particular themes that are present in The New York Trilogy and The Crying of Lot 49. To explain the metaphysical detective story, a step back to the classical detective story as its predecessor is required. To sum up the oppositions expressed in criticism dealing with this subject, the contrast between these two genres has been defined in terms of high art and popular art (Todorov), art and kitsch (Holquist), ontological dominant and epistemological dominant (McHale), postmodern and positivistic mode of thinking (Spanos). The metaphysical detective story takes the conventions of the classical detective story and distorts them in order to betray the reader's expectations. Since the popular genres are constituted by their corresponding sets of conventions which need to be familiar, any change in them causes the work to lose its status as part of the genre. In this case, the classical detective story has served as a point of departure for many authors who transformed it into a completely different genre which had no longer anything to do with popular literature. Classical detective...

The specifics of management (leading) personnel selection within the Czech education system compared with the management personnel selection within a non-educational field
Strejcovská, Barbora ; Krutská, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hamerníková, Dana (referee)
My bachelor thesis deals with the difference between the selection and subsequent allocation of human resources to managing posts within the educational sphere and commercial sector. The thesis is based on longitudinal monitoring of the described differences and uses basic knowledge of personal psychology including modern psychological methods of personality typology. The thesis works with the results of an elementary empirical examination of persons within the educational, noneducational, public and private sector, based on the outputs of MBTI personality questionnaire ((Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). The aim of the thesis is not only to describe the basic differences of both approaches. It also tries to offer elementary or rather basal solution proposals as a part of the currently in progress changes within the Czech educational system, using inspiring material of the so called White Book of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Practical use of this paper lies above all in the field of the optimalization of the use of school management human resources and that is in direct relation to schools established by the Prague City Hall.

Ole Jastrau's journey through the city, the image of a man and a city in Tom Kristensen's novel Hærværk
Vašáková, Lenka ; Březinová, Helena (advisor) ; Humpál, Martin (referee)
The thesis presents an analysis of the themes of the city, the journey and the pilgrim in the well known danish novel Havoc by Tom Kristiensen. The introductory part of the thesis includes a brief summary of the changes in the image of the city in the 19th and 20th century works of art and literature. Furthermore, it also focuses on the man-city relationship and stresses its reciprocity and the important role of the city in the process of the formation of individual identity. The following part of the thesis analyses the theme of the city in Havoc and focuses mainly on the influence, which the main character's feeling of alientation has on the depiction of the city in the novel. Another discussed topic is the main character's decision to intentedly reach the bottom of his existence, which is interpreted as the result of the post-world war I. urge to question and reassess the foundations of the society and its principels and values. The thesis compares and contrasts the main character's deroute with other famous litterary journeys and pilgrimages. Furthemore, it also analyses the predominant patterns of the main charcter's movement through the city and interprets its spiral course as emblematic of the main charatcer's search of identity. The final part of the thesis explores the importance of the...

Ontogeny of exaggerated structures in dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeinae)
Žídek, Radim ; Hanus, Robert (referee) ; Šípek, Petr (advisor)
E n g l i s h a b s t r a c t Horns of scarab beetles represent a secondary sexual characters present mostly in males, to whom they serve as weapons in combats over the acces to females. In many species, two discrete male forms occur, "horned" and "hornless", which employ different reproductive strategies. Adult body size and horn morphology are determined by nutritional conditions encountered by larvae during their development. Switching between developmental pathways is accomplished by circulating levels of juvenile hormone (JH) which reflect body size, and genetically determined threshold of sensitivity to it. When body size is larger then threshold, horn growth occur, whereas if it's not, a brief pulse of ecdysone reprogramme the development and hornless adult emerge. Reprogramming the development encompass modifications of the insulin receptor pathway as well as changes in exact domains of genes expression envolved in specifying the proximodistal axis of the developing horn. Development of horns is morphologically reminiscent that of other insect appendages, with which it shares the expression of genes wingless, decapentaplegic, Distal-less, dachshund, homothorax, aristaless and EGFR, parts of gene regulatory network ensuring origin of the outgrowth of the cuticle. Some of them are expressed through...

Probléms of childhood in prose of Martina Drijverová
Najmanová, Kamila ; Pechová, Drahoslava (advisor) ; Stejskalová, Anna (referee)
In my bachelor thesis I concentrate on book themes, types of characters including the narrator's resemblance and a portrayal of the environment in Martina Drijverová's selected prose. The books involved: "Táta k příštím Vánocům ", "Táta pro radost i pro zlost", "Táta nemá smutky rád", "Sísa Kyselá", "Sísa Kyselá a ušmudlaný rytíř", "Zajíc a sovy", "Nekonečné prázdniny" and "Domov pro Marťany". In the first part of the thesis I focus on a brief biography and bibliography of the author. I also define a genre of prose story of children's life. I also deal with Martina Drijverová's position among other Czech authors of this genre. In the main part I deal with themes that the author used in her prose - a child and a single parent family, an outsider, a child friendship and a child with disability. The themes are still actual for today's children. Then I pay attention to types of characters. It is the largest part of my thesis. It covers a characteristic of protagonists in the books and also the narrator's resemblance. In narration of girl characters the author used the first-person narrative mode as a way to express their thoughts and feelings. In stories of boys Drijverová used the third-person narrative mode. She changes an author's narrative perspective with a main character's perspective. The second...

Sexual size dimorphism in medieval period in Bohemia.
Kaupová, Sylva ; Brůžek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Dobisíková, Miluše (referee)
Differences in height among human populations or changes in height over time may be associated with different degrees of sexual dimorphism in this feature. This thesis compared the height and sexual size dimorphism (SSD) between two groups of the population of Medieval Bohemia - rural residents and inhabitants of Prague. A sample of 179 adult skeletons from five Prague sites and 175 individuals from four rural sites, dating from the 11th to 14th century, was used. Sex was determined following the principle of primary and secondary sex diagnosis, which enabled the derivation of population-specific discriminant functions using the dimensions of the humerus, femur, tibia and talus. A subsequent analysis of body height did not show statistically significant differences either in height or in SSD between the Prague and the rural part of the population of Medieval Bohemia, despite the major changes which Czech Medieval society went through in the 13th century. Comparing our results with previously published data on the height of the Czech population during the early modern period indicates a statistically significant reduction in the magnitude of sexual size dimorphism in the population of the17th century, particularly associated with a decrease in the height of men. A significantly higher stature of...
