Kubíková, Gabriela ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee) ; Smolek, Martin (referee)
Welfare of farmed animals in European Union law Abstract: The dissertation deals with the protection of farmed animals and their welfare in the European Union law. This is a topic of growing social importance, primarily due to the ethical and environmental concerns associated with intensive animal farming and the increasing societal pressure to strengthen the legal protection of these animals. In addition to providing a general overview of the role of the European Union in the protection of farmed animals, the aim of this thesis is to analyse the current animal welfare legislation in the EU, both in terms of its content (i.e. specific requirements set by the legislation), which is put into comparison with scientific findings in the field of animal welfare, and in terms of its application in practice. On the basis of this analysis and comparison, recommendations are then formulated which address the identified shortcomings and could improve the current state of farmed animal protection in the EU. The thesis is divided into an introduction, five chapters and a conclusion. The introduction provides an outline of the issue and highlights the links between the protection of farmed animals and the environment, lays down the research questions, outlines the structure of the thesis, summarises the methods used and...

Spotřebitelský trh s biopotravinami v Jihočeském kraji
SVÁČKOVÁ, Marie
Abstract The topic of this bachelor's thesis is "The Consumer Market with Organic Food in the South Bohemian Region" and it deals with the current market situation. The goal of this thesis is to analyse customer's approach to shopping of organic food, also looking for the weakest side of customer-organic food relationship and to define the direction how the customers think of the purchase. The theoretical part explains the basic concepts such as organic farming, defines legislation in labelling requirements and certification of organic food, the functions of organic farming control companies and production and processing of organic food. The results in the practical part were achieved by evaluation of a questionnaire survey and data analysis from the respondent's survey. Finally, the author suggests recommendations based on data analysis from the obtained information.
Effects of microbiota composition on emergence of depressions and behavioural disorders in animals
Bartková, Nikola ; Vinkler, Michal (advisor) ; Kubovčiak, Jan (referee)
The aim of this study is to summarize the current knowledge on the influence of gut microbiota composition on behavioural disorders in selected mammals and birds. Current research focuses on the influence of gut microbiota on the development of mental illnesses in humans and the potential therapeutic use of manipulating its composition. This paper briefly summarizes the main mechanisms of microbiota influence on the development of mental illnesses. The gut microbiota may also influence the development of behavioural disorders in animals. The literature suggests that changes in gut microbiota composition in humans with mental illnesses and animals with behavioural disorders share some similarities. In general, they are related mainly to a reduced abundance of selected genera of short-chain fatty acid producing bacteria and an increased abundance of gram-negative bacteria. The exceptions are destructive behavioural disorders in animals, which are associated with increased abundance of the Clostridia class and decreased abundance of the Lactobacillus genus. To prevent their development under stress, the thesis proposes the probiotic use of Lactobacillus rhamnosus. To manipulate the composition of the gut microbiota in the treatment of depressive disorders in humans, the administration of probiotics,...
Legislation of Veterinary Care
Chaloupecká, Denisa ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the legislation of veterinary care. In doing so, I tried to provide a clear and comprehensive overview of all the institutes and essentials that relate to it. Many uninformed people could mistakenly assume that this topic covers solely animal healthcare. Although it is also an integral part of the topic we do not find so much material here; the concept of veterinary work goes beyond that. Within 5 chapters we will learn not only historical contexts of development, but also international conventions or organizations. We will compare the Czech Leagl norms against the Slovak ones. An integral part of the thesis is a brief overview of sources of EU law, both primary and secondary, as well as their historical development. "Welfare", or ensuring animal welfare, is a rather new concept, but a highly important one. Thanks to animal welfare, we have begun to pay attention to animal health both physically and mentally. It was therefore obvious that this topic was briefly addressed, especially its development and implementation. The concept of "an animal" related to this topic has not been not neglected, especially in how the view of the animal has changed in recent years by amending the Civil Code. Since the topic of the diploma thesis is to concern mainly legal regulations, I...
Legal protection of farm animals against cruelty
Kaletová, Gabriela ; Derlich, Stanislav (advisor) ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee)
Legal protection of farm animals against cruelty The thesis deals with the protection of farm animals against cruelty and its main goal is to evaluate the current state of legislation in this field, with respect to both theory and praxis. The thesis comprises of five chapters excluding introduction and summary. The summary sums ups all the findings introduced in the thesis and presents de lege ferenda ideas. The first two chapters define basic terms crucial for the topic and also introduce the historical basis of farm animal legal protection. The current legislation is dealt with at first at the international and European level in chapter three. More attention is naturally given to legal protection of farm animals in the Czech Republic, especially to enforcement of the farm animal protection laws. This enables the thesis to eventually evaluate how effectively farm animals are protected by law in our country. Chapter number five tries to answer the fundamental question behind this thesis; is the current legislation at such a level that would ensure that farm animals are indeed protected against cruelty and that would ensure their good welfare? The thesis uses knowledge from scientific fields such as ethology to be able to answer this question and evaluate the practical impact of the legislation on animal...

Development of farm animal protection in the Czech Republic
Pilařová, Anna ; Kracíková, Olga (advisor) ; Hofmanová, Barbora (referee)
Animal welfare has been recently increasingly discussed topic. Humanity ceases to be indefferent toward the fate of animals and the world returns to a more natural ways of life. This is connected with opinions, globally supporting trend of ecological or bio breeding. The issue is undoubtedly in cost. Most of end users are mainly influenced by price and they are forced to buy a cheaper product, even knowing these are not results of welfare breeding. Thus the goal should be higher state support of regional farmers, eco and bio breedings and lowering the production of mass breedings. The first part of this thesis sums up the history of breeding of agricultural animals in the region of Czech republic since zero concern in careful breeding, through first mentions of animal welfare to the law of Czech national comittee nr. 246/1992 Sb., for protection of animals against abuse, which contains most complex findings and ethological experiences in this field. In the second part are listed tables from Ministry of justice, which show evolution of crimes in the field of animal abuse in our area since 1992 till 2015. It is demonstrated in the tables, that the number of sentenced offenders in animal abuse rises. Following is description of judicial rulings obtained from relevant courts. The crime is always briefly described and then is stated the sentencing for crime committed. The results are, that the law nr. 246/1992 Sb. for protection of animals against abuse is very well designed, but the practical application is insufficient. The most of court cases ends up in probation, no matter of a motive, or death of the animal. Problematic is also the difference of definition of the animal according to different laws. Czech republic did a lot for protection of agricultural animals in its area, but it is also undoubtedly needed among other things to refine recent formulation of the law for protection of animals against abuse animal is a vertebrate except human and embryo, because this definition is insufficient and not correlating with the most advanced definitions of the term, conducted by new Civil code. The last part of this thesis contains some non-government organisations dealing with agricultural animals protection in Czech republic and in the whole world.
Influencing the motivation in the animals training using training logs
Ferencová, Tereza ; Svobodová, Ivona (advisor) ; Bolechová, Petra (referee)
Recently animal training has become a field that is gaining followers and even experts, breeders from all over the world are starting to show interest. One of the important factors that plays a significant role in the training of animals is the level of motivation. There are many motivation techniques available to animal trainers. A number of these techniques focuses on food as a form of motivation. They successfully put to use the recognition that food is one of the most important primary reinforcers. It can fulfill the role of reward, or it can be an element of food deprivation, and also it can serve as a regulator of body weight. Other motivation techniques are based on motivation through a simple exercise, the use of motivation with other animals, or motivating an animal in the form of a basic position. By selecting and applying the correct motivation technique it is possible to achieve a high level of motivation and successful training lessons. With a suitable motivation method trainers can prevent undesirable behavior, which can often be spotted at animals kept in zoos. A key part of each animal training is welfare that ensures appropriate conditions for training and also for the trained animal itself. With the increasing number of both experts and general interest regarding animal training, the question of keeping records of individual training lessons has emerged. It was the aim of this thesis to evaluate the various training logs known up till now used by experts on animal training. Individual animal trainers rely on their own training logs that they use during trainings at their workplaces, which is where the training logs are also most frequently created. To gain information about the form of the training logs is no easy matter, and to some extent this issue is one that is not publicized. It would be beneficial if the individual methods of keeping training logs were made public and by doing so a unified training log draft was made. It is not necessary for all animal trainers to pursue the creating of training logs, however, there is no doubt that with their aid the evaluation of the partial or entire effectiveness of individual trainings would be more precise.
