The aim of this thesis is a commented translation of a French text and its theoretical annotation. The source text was selected from the book À la table des seigneurs, des moines et des paysans du Moyen Âge, which deals with food in mediaeval France. The theoretical part of the work concerns the translation analysis of the source text and then it focuses on specific problems and particular proceedings of the translation. It also provides a typology of translation shifts.

The thesis is divided into two parts - the translation of the text and the theoretical annotation including the original text analysis, description of the selected translation method and typology of the most significant translation problems and shifts.

The following bachelor thesis consists of two parts - translation of two chapters from a French book by Georges Poisson Les Maisons d'écrivain and a commentary to this translation. The text is a guidebook to the houses of French writers. In the commentary, we analyse the source text, describe the method of translation, problems we dealt with during the translation as well as translation procedures we used. Part one introduces a selection of translated parts from an interview with Jane Birkin from the book Gainsbourg par ses interprètes (portraits, témoignages et entretiens) by a french journalist Frédéric Régent, a very enthusiastic "Gainsbourgiste". Part two presents the commentary and analyses of the original text along with a description of the translation methods used and the most significant translation issues faced.
