Media analysis of the coverage of the event by the Czech and Slovak main TV news: Shooting attack in Bratislava on 12 October 2022

The master thesis entitled Media analysis of the coverage of the event by Czech and Slovak main news TV channels: Shooting attack in Bratislava on 12 October 2022 examines the media coverage of the terrorist attack that took place in October 2022 in Slovakia. The theoretical part defines concepts such as reality, objectivity and agenda setting. A large part consists of a discussion of the specifics of television news coverage, which is the subject of our work. The media coverage of the event that this thesis examines raises a number of ethical issues, which is why the theoretical part deals not least with journalistic ethics. The practical part initially introduces the shooting attack in Bratislava in more detail and the objectives of this media analysis. It then focuses on the methodology of each research question, introduces the media studied and then presents the results for each of the research questions. The main aim of the thesis is to find out how different the media coverage of this event was, both on individual TV stations and between countries. In doing so, the focus was on mapping the evolution of media discourse on the topic, analysing the frames offered of the event or the position of the topic in relation to other stories in the main news coverage. Curious camera through the eyes of its producers

The thesis explores certain aspects of Zvědavá kamera, a Czechoslovak television journal that belonged among the most progressive pieces of Czechoslovak television journalism in 60-ties. The thesis is based on interviews with 3 of the still living makers of the journal: Otka Bednářová, Vladimír Branislav, and Jaromír Kincl. Based on their testimony, contemporary documents, and available television archive material the main question is being answered as to why Zvědavá kamera was allowed to exist for such a long time despite being politically controversial and why the makers did not face repression much earlier. The most substantial episodes of the journal are being explored in detail, among all Volba povolání (The Choice of Profession) by Otka Bednářová, Spor (Dispute) and Porota (Jury) by Vladimír Branislav and Jaromír Kincl. Based on the presented facts approaches are analyzed the makers took in order to make relatively free television journalism possible within the limits imposed on them by the totalitarian regime.
Publicist broadcast about journalism: Newsroom ČT 24

The thesis is focused on the first year of current affairs TV program called Newsroom CT24. It has two main parts, theoretical and practical. The former describes the theoretical context of the program; the key genres used in the program are delineated, and other theoretical points of departure are provided. Next come some chapters on the history of Czech journalism, with an emphasis on television journalism. This part deals with certain trends in TV journalism in relation to the historical context of the times, moving smoothly to the present. The thesis also delineates the specifics of the program, and methodology applied in research. The practical part offers both quantitative and qualitative analyses of the program with regard to its contents and genres. It presents the main themes and genre specifics of the program in its first year of being broadcast, mapping the local context of topics appearing on the screen. It provides a percentage breakdown of the main topics broadcast in the program, together with the percentages of local context material within the general output. This data is complemented by the percentages of hard and soft news. Non-standard photography methods in audiovisual journalism

The aim of the diploma thesis "Non- standard photography methods in audiovisual journalism" is to present image and production methods that are used in television news and journalism - particularly those ones that defy standard methods. These methods appear, considering technological development and the endeavour of making neutral visual space of television journalism, more attractive. First chapter of the thesis presents television news, its history, characteristics, elements and typology of television news production. Next chapter deals with the visual aspects of audiovisual works. The audiovisual language, its expressive elements and specific aspects of the image in television are presented. Main part of the thesis focuses on the photography methods in television journalism. Based on the literature and interviews with creative workers from the Czech television it presents photography methods and especially non- standard methods that use small sports action cameras, unmanned air devices or hidden cameras. The thesis mentions also production methods videojournalism and mobile journalism (MoJo) that uses standard mobile devices for professional news production. Particular examples from the broadcasting of the Czech televison are presented in the final chapter.
The use of social networking in live broadcast current affairs programs

The bachelor thesis is focused on usage social networks in television. Specifically is focused on the television show Hyde Park, which has been a part of ČT 24 broadcast since the year 2010. Hyde Park has become the first television show, which utilized social networks for viewers questions. Theoretical part consists of some key parts - web 2.0, social network, new media and defines the show Hyde Park. Practical part is aimed to period in the whole january 2014. This part includes five chapters. They examine the profiles of the Hyde Park on social networks - Facebok, Google+ and Twitter. It also explains through the quantitative analysis, which communication channel is prevalent. The bachelor thesis contains the analysis of participation of the guests in the show. Very imporant part is personal interview with Gabriela Cihlářová, who works as the editor of Hyde Park.
