Characterisation of new diplonemid species via electron microscopy, starvation experiments and immunofluorescence studies
CIMRHANZLOVÁ, Kristýna
The large abundance and diversity of diplonemids in oceans has been overlooked until recently. Diplonemids are now starting to be recognised as an abundant and diverse group of the planktonic community. It is in our best interest to study these fascinating microorganisms to learn more about how they impact the ecosystems of the world's oceans. This thesis is focused primarily on morphological descriptions and determination of the life stages of four newly discovered species.
Breeding of invertebrates and their use in school teaching
Farionová, Jana ; Hanel, Lubomír (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
The submitted Bachelor thesis has a retrieval character. It focuses on general characteristic of the selected groups of the Invertebrates and also on its breeding, which is suitable for home and school environment. The handled topic relates to my subject of study, it includes the guide, the possibilities of breeding of the Invertebrates and the selected species. It can be used by the teachers, but also pupils and students of Biology. Some parts are also dedicated to the basic elements to which is important to pay attention during the lessons and which can be well observed on the organism. The introduction concentrates the brief characteristic of the Invertebrates, it includes the list of used terms and it generally informs about the principles of breeding. The following chapters consist of the characteristic and breeding of the selected species, examples of the suitable variets and also the problem issues, which can appear during the breeding. With the described species we can also find the options how to use them during the education at school. Picture are attached in the thesis. KEYWORDS Invertebrates, charakteristic, breeding, species
Timber species education of the elementary School
Hladíková, Hana ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is the preparation and realization of project about timber species for pupils attending fourth grade of elementary school. Introductory chapters present basic curricular documents about environmental education. The author analyses elementary school textbooks focusing on naturalistic topics and finds out the ways in which the subject matter of timber species is covered in textbooks of fourth and fifth grade of elementary school. In the chapter Characteristics of Rieger's Park, the author examines the history of the park and mentions woody species to be found on the park's territory. One part of the thesis deals with results arising from questionnaire survey carried out at schools in the adjacent park surroundings. The main purpose of the questionnaire survey was to find out how much interest there is in the project dealing with issues of timber species in Rieger's Park. The author set the objective at the same time of finding out what form of the project would be the most convenient for teachers of the selected schools. Practice-oriented part contains the project "Timber Species in the Rieger's Park". Four walks to the Rieger's Park in different seasons of the year with accompanying working sheets made stand for the basis of the project. In the final part of the...
Volumetric and electrostatic properties of water and their application to aqueous thermodynamics and mineral solubility at high temperatures and pressures
Hanková, Barbora ; Dolejš, David (advisor) ; Zachariáš, Jiří (referee)
Hydrothermal fluids are important mass and heat transfer agents in the Earth's crust and mantle. Aside from their transport role, the aqueous fluids act as reactants or products in rock environment during diverse processes ranging from partial melting, magmatic and metamorphic devolatilization. This study evaluates the effect of equations of state and thermodynamic data for aqueous species on prediction of mineral solubility in aqueous fluids at high temperatures and pressures employing the Helgeson-Kirkham-Flowers model (HKF). These calculations require: (i) volumetric properties of water; (ii) dielectric properties of water; (iii) aqueous species thermodynamic properties. A comparison of ten equations of state against the IAPWS scientific standard reveals that volumetric properties of water up to 1200 řC and 50 kbar are predicted within 5 %, except at low pressure (below 2 kbar), temperatures higher than 1000 řC, and the liquid-vapor equilibrium curve, particularly in the proximity of the critical point of water. The deviations of volumetric and electrostatic properties of water propagate into the mineral solubility calculations. For quartz and corundum these deviations lead to discrepancy in mineral solubility of up to half an order of magnitude for molal concentrations. These discrepancies...
Diversity and distribution of the Euastrum humerosum / didelta (Desmidiales) species complex
Kupčíková, Eva ; Šťastný, Jan (advisor) ; Kollár, Jan (referee)
From 23 European and North American strains Euastrum humerosum/didelta species complex (Desmidiales) I have obtained 3 lineages in molecular marker trnGucc group II intron. I did not acquire significant and homogenous results in SSU intron. It is probable that the lineages of trnGucc intron are very young. SEM revealed one central pore in cell wall and five bulges. The lineages were significantly different in their shape and dimensions. The lineages differentiated mainly in their length and breadth of the cells. The lineages inside morphotype E. humerosum differentiated in shape and dimensions of the polar lobe. The lineages inside morphotype E.didelta differentiated in shape and dimensions of the neck. That was ascertained using the geometric morphometrics with the measuring. Linear discriminant analysis of the desmids from literature revealed that is possible to partly discriminate groups of the varieties (E. humerosum var. parallelum and E. didelta in lineage A; two formae E. didelta f. val Piora and E. didelta f. latior in lineage B; E. didelta var. inermiforme and E. humerosum var. affine in lineage C). Key words: desmids, species, hidden diversity, molecular phylogenetics, geometric morphometrics, Euastrum, scanning electron microscopy

From 23 European and North American strains Euastrum humerosum/didelta species complex (Desmidiales) we have obtained 3 lineages in molecular marker trnGuuc group II intron. We did not acquire significant and homogenous results in SSU intron. It is probable that the lineages are very young. The lineages were significantly different in their shape and dimensions. We used the geometric morphometrics with the measuring of the lengths and breath of the semicells, isthmus and their ratios. The lineages differentiated in their dimensions and shape variable polar lobes and neck. SEM revealed the one central pore in cell wall on the contrary, with variant E. didelta var. bengalicum, which has two pores according the literature records. The effects of forest clearings on bird populations
Eršil, Lukáš ; Policht, Richard (advisor) ; Ferenc, Michal (referee)
The most widespread way of extraction of forest is still clearlcuting. It is almost impossible to find commercial forest without forest clearings. Forest clearing can be perceived as a special element in a connected forest. I am trying to find out the influence of these forest distributions on the bird community. I was interested how important the forest clearings will be in the different type of forests. In seven localities were collected set of environmental variability's and bird data, which were counted by point count method. There were deciduous and mixed forests as well as the coniferous monocultures. The data collection was conducted in the breeding season 2011 and 2012. I expected, that the forest glades ensure the heterogeneity in forest space and will increase the number of bird's species. I expected this influence more important in the coniferous than in the deciduous and mixed forests. This assumption was partly confirmed. The glades in the coniferous forests have higher influence, but it depends on the forest area. In large coniferous monocultures is the importance of glades high. In the case of deciduous and mixed forests the size of forests did not have a value. The tree richness has the bigger importance. With this variable correlate Common Chiffchaff, Eurasian Wren, Yellowhammer,...
