Jiroušková, Markéta ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Pech, Milan (referee)
This thesis discusses the artist Jan Steklik and the Crusader school of pure humour without the joke. In the introduction, the political situation and visual arts during the normalization period are presented, then the origin and history of the Crusader school is introduced. These include Karel Nepras, Zbynek Sion, Eugen Brikcius or Helena Wilson. All of their most important projects are presented. The second part of the work is devoted to Steklik himself. First, his biography is presented, which summarizes his life from his childhood, his studies, to his last exhibitions. Then his role in the Crusader school is discussed in detail. Finally the last part of the thesis is dedicated to his art. His beginnings, drawings, land- art projects and exhibitions are as well. A Peace of GDR Literary History: Jurek Becker between "Jakob the Liar" and "Bronstein's Children"
KUBOVÁ, Andrea
The topic of this diploma thesis is the literature of the GDR from the 50s to the 70s, whose character is formed by the remnants of the Holocaust and the dominance of socialism. After the Second World War, a considerable amount of works with a Jewish theme as well as works dealing with everyday problems in the socialist milieu appears. The East German writer of Jewish origin Jurek Becker is an example of the author who has experience with both the persecution of Jews and the socialist regime, and therefore incorporates them into the main themes of his literary works. The aim of the thesis is to find out how was contemporary literature influenced by these facts, not only by examining the political and cultural context, but especially through the mentioned author and his four novels.

(Not) A Friend of the city? Department stores from the 1960s to the 1980s in the small towns of South Bohemia.
NOVOSÁDOVÁ, Kateřina
My thesis deals with the phenomenon of department stores built between the 1960s and the 1980s in small towns in South Bohemia. They are buildings fashioned in the socialist style which often had strong impact on the appearance of the town. The main goal of my work is not only to document urban changes of the historic centres of the chosen towns and to reconstruct the circumstances of the constructions of those department stores, but also to describe their art historical aspect. I have chosen department stores in Písek, Blatná, Protivín, Vodňany, Strakonice, Vimperk and Prachatice which were not built by the company Prior. The main investor was the company Pramen or Jednota. The main primary sources of the research are from files in the respective town halls, from state district archives and newspapers of that period. Those sources have often not been published yet. The secondary literature is used for a comparison. The sources help to clarify and assess how the chosen buildings changed the appearances of the towns. The thesis describes some features of the individual buildings related to their functions and depicts their facades, so called "billboards in the town", which provided the main communication with the people. And then I try to find variations and combinations of materials used in the construction of the buildings. The thesis also deals with the artistic decoration complementing the architecture of the buildings and how much of it has remained. The text provides not only comparison of the buildings in small towns in the given areas, but there is also a comparison with major department stores of the company Prior in regional capitals in former Czechoslovakia. At the end it touches on the question of the future of the examined buildings and their possible preservation as national monuments.
Czechoslovak volleyball foreign relations 1948 - 1971
Rámišová, Šárka ; Waic, Marek (advisor) ; Kolář, František (referee) ; Strachová, Milena (referee)
The main goal of this dissertation is to compare the influence of international politic relations on foreign sports relations and to examine the conditions of national volleyball teams' trips abroad during the period of the so-called state socialism. During this period, the world was divided due to the Cold War and Czechoslovakia came under the Soviet influence. The period of unification of physical education and legislation that influenced the functioning of sports and physical education units, including organized volleyball, is an important milestone of the work. The focus is on the activities of the CSTV, the instructions and recommendations it issued and which athletes had to follow when travelling abroad. At the same time, it is necessary to highlight the activities of the International Volleyball Federation, which was founded by the Czechoslovak Volleyball and Basketball Association. The key point is its expansion and influence on the development of global volleyball rules, which were partly formed by its members, who significantly changed the style of the game. The question is therefore whether the travel opportunities of our athletes abroad for international, friendly or exhibition matches, or even for key events such as the World Championships, European Championships or Olympic Games, have...

Kieweg, Jan ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Ottová, Michaela (referee)
Problematical historical preservation buildings from the 2nd half of the 20th century on example of the Military building Abstract The bachelor thesis focuses on the problematical protection of buildings from the second half of the twentieth century. The historical preservation issue will be presented on the construction of a Military building, which was built in the style of Brutalism. This unique building of architect Jan Hančl will be monographically worked on and evaluated in a broader sociology context, together with related problems of its historical preservation. The recent circumstances, which led to a longtime covering using large billboards, will be clarified. The following removal of the advertisement provoked a lot of emotions and resulted in a complete demolition. The author of this bachelor work aims to take hold of this affair, and he points out the historical institution malfunctioning, which is slowly becoming a phenomenon. Besides ordinary art- historical methods, oral testimonies of direct participants were used, primarily of the professional public, along with the conservationists, and members of the club called Za starou Prahu. Keywords Architecture, brutalism, modernism, historical preservation, Prague, Military building, Jan Hancl, art, socialism
Methodology of collecting and preserving the design of Czechoslovak glass and costume jewellery 1948–1989
Nový, Petr ; Nováková, Kateřina Nora ; Hrušková, Kateřina ; Havlíčková, Dagmar
The methodology deals with the issue of collecting and preserving the design of Czechoslovak glass and costume jewellery from the period 1948–1989, specifically a wide range of manual and automatic commercial decorated and undecorated utilitarian glass and finished costume jewellery made of glass, metal, plastic and other materials, including prototypes. It does not include other branches of the glass industry and crafts (flat glass, packaging glass, laboratory glass, glass fibres, glass mosaics and stained glass, author's glass and author's jewellery). It provides information that will facilitate and at the same time improve the dating and description of products created in a defined period. It offers instructions for the systematization of qualified active collection, including information necessary for the appropriate care of collection items obtained in this way. The design of Czechoslovak glass and costume jewellery during the socialist period cannot be viewed in a competent manner and processed as a collection without knowledge of the essential organizational landmarks that accompanied the fields of glass and costume jewellery. These changes brought about the disappearance of old and the emergence of new brands or trademarks and are therefore important for orientation when trying to date objects, or they conditioned technological changes that are essential for describing the method of production. This information is therefore an integral part of the methodology, as well as comprehensive overview appendices.

Women of Čejetičky. Everyday life of two generations of women living in the mentioned location between the years 1968 and 2000.
Picková, Monika ; Krátká, Lenka (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Jiří (referee)
This thesis focuses on recording the lived experiences and everyday lives of two generations of women, mothers and daughters, who lived in the city district of Čejetičky in Mladá Boleslav between the years 1968 and 2000. Research conducted using the method of oral history targets mainly the family environment and career prospects of these women, their time in and outside of work and also their general quality of life, as perceived by the narrators themselves. In this way, it gives a voice to women that have been historically and traditionally overlooked. By comparing the stories of two generations of women, we can observe how daughters followed the paths of life set by their mothers and were subjected to the pressures of patriarchal society only some fifty kilometers outside of Prague.
