Volunteer Fire Fighters from the Point of View of Social Capital Development

The diploma thesis deals with the status of volunteer fire fighters from the point of view of social capital development. Because of that subject it belongs to studies exploring phenomenon volunteering. Association of volunteer fire fighters is traditional volunteer organization and its success and expansion in the individualistic present society are the basic questions of the study. The answers on the questions connected with unique status of volunteer fire fighters between Czech volunteers were searching by using analysis of collective social capital. Importance of traditions, social networks and status of volunteer fire fighters in their communities were revealed by quantitative and qualitative approaches. It seems that the main sense of existence of volunteer fire departments is not only the protection of people against fires and accidents but also helping communities to maintain their collective social life. By this action are volunteer fire fighters instrumental in keeping cohesion of local citizens and in social capital development.

Contemporary Perspectives of International Organisations on the Concept of Lifelong Learning - A Comparison of UNESCO and OECD

This diploma thesis presents the concept of lifelong learning as an ambitious political project born in the field of international organisations at the beginning of the 1970s which now reaches far beyond the borders of national states and education policy. The sphere of education still remains the responsibility of national governments, however, even here strong globalising tendencies have occurred since the 1990s, as a result of which the national policy is more and more being influenced by supranational institutions. Although the concept of lifelong learning now serves as a common framework, it has been interpreted differently during its evolution and a consensus on what it exactly means and how it should be put into practice still does not exist. Based on analysis of key documents, this thesis aims to compare the view of lifelong learning held by the international organisation UNESCO with that of OECD, as two distinctive perspectives on this issue. The comparison draws on Rubenson's model (2004), which examines lifelong learning through three key categories representing the main actors of social life - the state, the market and civil society. Ways of Obtaining Taboo Information about Drugs by Addicts in Czechoslovakia

This thesis deals with the transmission of information about hard drugs which were concealed by social system in the 70th and 80th of 20th century from perspectives of drug users. We focus on the problematics of informational sources and channels by means of the social system and the systems theory of Niklas Luhmann. We analyse, by using grounded theory, information environment which influenced the drug subculture. The data sources consist of 35 interviews with addicts who were actively taking hard drugs before 1989. The aim of this thesis is a comprehensive look at the functioning of the drug subculture, transmission of taboo information in society 70th and 80th of 20th century by the theory of social capital and social systems.

Benefits of resilience and social support in mentoring relations with school children

This diploma thesis is concerned with medium-term benefits of peer mentorng programs from the point of resilience and social support to the care recipients- children and adolescents from risk environment or with risk factors influenced. Data of this study comes from International peer mentoring survey Big Brothers Big Sisters- Pět P in Czech republic. The study is important for its in-depth and longitudinal (1 year) survey of 7 mentoring couples. Thesis is secondary analysis of mentioned study and is interessed in concepts of resilience and social support in context of mentoring community intervences. Close Social Ties and their Role in Virtual

This thesis deals with the functioning of virtual communities in relation to social capital of their members gained in this environment. The issue of virtual communities is embedded in a broader discussion about the form of community life in modern society and about the impact of new media on social behavior, individual identity and association. Attention is paid to linking the virval environment with the real environment through offline meetings and how this affects social ties between users and life of community. Based on the case study of specific community formed around game-literary server www.darkage.cz, thesis analyzes the influence of close social ties between users on the functioning of the community within its evolution in time.

The Development Potential of the Smallest Municipalities

The present thesis deals with the influence of human resources for the development potential of selected villages situated in the area of inner periphery of the Vysocina Region. Within the scope of polarized geographical space areas with varying degrees of stability and potential for development can be identified, where endogenous development opportunities can be considered as crucial factors- in particular the level of human resources. The present thesis monitors the quality of human and social capital on the example of three villages, using the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. The capitalization rate and utilization of human resources is evaluated mainly in terms of involvement of local partakers/participants, their levels of cooperation and participation of the population in public life. The aim is to find out how human resources in the surveyed municipalities affect their development in the future.

The Magnitude of Governance in Addressing HIV/AIDS Problems in Ethiopia

This case study seeks to understand the scope of governance in addressing HIV/AIDS issues in Ethiopia by making use of HIV/AIDS partnership forums that exist in the country. All individuals representing the government sector, the NGO sector, the for profit sector and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO) both at the national level and in the three regions namely Oromia Region, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and Addis Ababa have been interviewed. Additional data were gathered using a PARTNER tool survey and also relevant documents have been analyzed. The social capital and governance theories create a framework where actors enjoy partnerships and use the benefits in both policy making and implementation. With the help of a problem tree and thematic analysis the study describes the causal effect relationship of the factors affecting partnerships and their ultimate consequence in maximizing social capital and governance. Accordingly, the thesis identifies the specific effects of the 2009 law on partnership endeavors in particular and HIV/AIDS policy implementation in general. Moreover, the study points out the existence of insufficient partnership in both decision making and policy implementation.

Social Capital of Civil Society Organizations: Interorganizational Relations Across All Sectors

SYNOPSIS The diploma thesis deals with social capital of Civil Society Organizations, which is introduced here as a strategy for achieving the objectives and mission of Civil Society Organizations through networking and building relations with key players in their surroundings. Through the example of Civil Society Organizations providing services in Tábor the diploma thesis provides insight into the problematic of creation and maintenance of interorganizational relations with stakeholders across all sectors and therefore building external social capital of organizations. The theories of social capital and interorganizational relations with regard to the specifications of Civil Society Organizations are presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. The research part presents findings based on qualitative research, which was conducted through semi-structured interviews with representatives of Civil Society Organizations. The findings and results are and summarized in the conclusion.
