New Faces

The project New Faces is a series of portraits dealing with the theme of identity and its loss, human individuality and the phenomenon of ideal of beauty. Each of paintings depict different views on the same face, base on personal confessions of portrayed and his friends. Thus we can observe confrontation of the "subjective" and the "objective", where this supposed "objectivity" acquire the relative value in the context of other pictures. The project points to the problem of self-perception and it explores how human perception distorts the reality, especially if more factors (than just a visual image of reality) affects the person.

Nutritional habits, self-concept and eating disorders in active sports girls

This thesis focuses on the investigation of nutritional habits and self-concept in active sporting girls. The theoretical part deals with nutrition, the theory of specific nutritional needs in sportsgirls and describes selected factors that influence the perception of their own body by these girls. These factors include nutritional habits, family background, girls' social media activity, and self-bodyimage. This thesis aims to determine the potential occurrence of eating disorders in relation to the mentioned factors. The practical part is designed as a quantitative survey study.

Getting Back to 'Europe': An Analysis of a Possible Self-Perceived Inadequacy of Czechs Towards the West

This thesis explores the concurrent role of Western hegemony alongside the lasting effects of communism in the challenges faced by post-socialist countries, with a specific focus on the Czech Republic. While communism is commonly seen as the primary cause, we argue that cultural ideas associated with Western hegemony predate communism and have deeply influenced Europe's identity. The thesis is divided into sections that examine the concept of progress throughout history and its relevance to Western European identity, followed by an exploration of hegemony through examples from post-socialist nations, including the Czech Republic. The thesis concludes by addressing potential criticisms and providing an exercise that applies the concepts of hegemony and progress to contemporary Czech society. This analysis aims to present an alternative perspective that acknowledges the simultaneous effects of both communism and Western hegemony in shaping the challenges faced by post-socialist countries during their transition.

Mentality of the Oppressed: An Analysis of Czech Inferiority Complex Towards the West

In this paper, we examine what we see as a Czech feeling of inferiority towards the western nations. Though the so-called post-communist syndrome seems to be a popular way to explain the negative self-perception of Czechs, we will argue that this phenomenon stems from the trauma, which Czechs experienced when transitioning from communism to the globalized capitalistic market. We believe that this trauma was brought about by the rhetoric of ''coming back to Europe'' as it is based on a heritage of orientalism in Europe, in combination with the general mentality of the oppressed, as thematized by the post-colonial theorists such as Franz Fanon or Paulo Freire. To verify our hypothesis, we conducted a survey with 189 respondents from all the regions of the Czech Republic.

Self-presentation and social perception of young DRAG QUEENS in social media with special regard to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok networks

This diploma thesis of the self-presentation explores the aspects of self-presentation and social perception of a group of 5 selected drag queens. The thesis has a form of 5 case studies based on deep analysis of their profiles on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, which are currently the most used social networks. The areas of interest in this diploma thesis were the visual presentation of their drag identity, the trends their profiles show in areas of make-up, wig or hair, costume and body position in which they are shown on their profiles. The second area of interest was the nature of the textual presentation and captions, use of hashtags and interaction with their audience. Third are of interest was the audience itself, whether it was supportive in terms of drag and LGBTQ+ community in general and the nature of the interaction with the audience. The results from the content analysis were then summarized and used as a basis for semi-structured interview based on the outcomes from the said content analysis. No Grain, No Gain: Vegan Athletes' Self-Perception of Corporeality

This thesis deals with the corporeality of vegan athletes. It aims to clarify how the members of a specific vegan athlete community perceive their corporeality. It also describes the corporeality shaping process and how the process is affected by the community and by the shared body practices - mainly vegan diet and sports activities. The main concepts concerning this issue are habitus, embodiment, and the mindful body. This thesis's key ideas derive from Merleau-Ponty's views on corporeality, Csordas' embodiment, and Scheper-Hughes's and Lock's mindful body, which provided an analytical framework for this research. The research highlighted the importance of a strong community, which vegan athletes build. They can then act on the bodies of the community members and thus make bodies presenting veganism as sufficient. It is a sport that plays a crucial role in this, as it keeps bodies healthy and makes them strong. Sport thus functions as a defense for their practices, which are in the community's eyes the right way of living and respond to the current environmental crisis and immoral abuse of animals. Construction of Professional Identity of a Coach. Narrative point of view.

Diploma thesis entitled "Construction of Professional Identity of a Coach. Narrative point of View." aimed to explore and describe the process of construction of professional identity in professional coaches. The first section of the theoretical part is devoted to the topic of identity. Identity is defined from a psychological and philosophical point of view, and psychological theories of identity development are introduced. Furthermore, professional identity is presented as a specific form of identity of an individual, which relates to their professional field, and recent research studies concerning professional identity are presented. At the end of this part, the topic of the crisis of professional identity and the concept of self - efficacy, which is related to the area of professional identity, are discussed. The second section of the theoretical part describes the contemporary image of coaching in the Czech Republic, its professional framework, and a brief history of the coaching method. Subsequently, the key competencies of a professional coach, differences from related disciplines, the context of coaching and psychology and ethics in coaching are described. Makeup use in the relationship to psychological factors

This study aims to get detailed insight into the topic of women and cosmetics usage. Author has based her theoretical framework predominantly on the existing literature that has resulted into definition of cosmetics and makeup, and summary of cosmetics? origin, historical development and relationship with attractiveness, motivation and women?s self-perception. The core of the practical part is a qualitative analysis, that should verify research questions related to previously mentioned attributes. Author has conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 7 participants that are using cosmetics on daily basis. Reason for this form of data collection is an ambition to get detailed insight into personal development, change in style of cosmetics usage during their life and also explore what factors are affecting respondents with relationship to cosmetics usage. Author has used open coding method for data analysis and has developed 189 codes, 60 subcategories and 14 categories. Subsequently, she has created multiple case study using previously formulated categories and codes from the open coding. The main factor in the development of the respondents? cosmetics is smaller quantity of applied cosmetics but higher skill level in cosmetics application. From the factors that are influencing cosmetics usage, partner possession has been evaluated as the most important.

Well - being of children and teenagers from institutional care

This thesis deals with the specifics of subjectively perceived well-being of early and mid adolescents (11 - 15 years) who are curretly living in Czech foster homes. The purpose of this study is to describe whether their life satisfaction differ from those, who are growing up with biological parents. If so, in what aspects and why. The theoretical part focuses on various concepts of well-being, current institutional care situation in the Czech Republic, its benefits and risks, the developmental period of early and mid adolescence with its outstanding characteristics. In addition, the newest studies related to the topic are covered. The practical part includes mixed approaches (both quantitative and qualitative) through the KIDSCREEN- 52 questionnaire and suplemental anamnestic questionnaire. In total 53 children from 8 different foster homes filled out both questionnaires. The research results show, that life satisfaction of children in institutional care is in three domains (moods and emotions, school environment, social acceptance and bullying) lower in comparison with children who are living with their families.
