Just Wages: A comparison between the views of traditional economic theory and the Catholic Social Doctrine
Bořil, Tomáš ; Vyhnánek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Báťa, Karel (referee)
This thesis deals with comparing the views of the main economic stream (represented mainly by the neo-classical) with Catholic social teaching on the issue of just wages. In Catholic social teaching, this matter is explicitly analyzed in contrast to the neoclassical theory which omits it. For this reason, in order to compare views of those two different schools of thought, the work focuses on the relationship of normative and positivist science, the hidden assumptions of neoclassical theory that concern the individual and the concept of work, her understanding of justice with regard to distribution, and the theory of minimum wages. Further work analyzes the paradigms and principles of Catholic social teachings related to just wages, which are rooted in the teachings of Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas. This study examines the compatibility and difference in the two schools of thought not only in respect to the issue of just wages, but also juxtaposes the roots of the various assumptions of both theories. The role of the state in the French economy
Voborníková, Zuzana ; Jiránková, Martina (advisor) ; Žamberský, Pavel (referee)
In my dissertation I characterize the role of the state in France in the late 20th century and I use specific examples to show the success of the economic policies of the state . For this reason, in the theoretical part I describe economic and political development of France, I compare it with selected countries and I point out French specifics. In the analytical part, I analyze the current state of the French economy, watching the macroeconomic indicators (inflation, unemployment, GDP , balance of payments). I discuss the importance of French clusters, public enterprises, the share of French companies in multinational companies and the important role of the state in various sectors of the economy. I conclude that, despite the dominant role of the state in the French economy, France achieves some of the best economic results in the world.
Effects and costs of economic-social model in the EU and USA
Štaudová, Kateřina ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Tunkrová, Věra (referee)
Social capitalism exists in several different types. Socio-economic models vary across Europe, where we can find five such models. Scandinavian model is typical for northern countries, in Great Britain and other Anglo-Saxon states the liberal model is used, conservative model is applicable to most countries of continental Europe and the Southern model is used by Mediterranean states such as Greece, Italy, Portuguese and Spain. The most significant difference between the socio-economic models is the way of how the state intervenes into the economy, whether it is the intervention to the tax level, to the system of transfer payments or the regulation of the labor market. These differences produce various results in the field of performance of every economy. The most successful seems to be the Scandinavian model, typical for Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The health care reform, which has now started in the United States, should move the liberal model of the USA closer to being a welfare state.
