Částová, Barbora ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Hladík, Radim (referee) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The thesis "Audience reception to the paradoxical narrative in the series Game of Thrones" focuses on the research of the audience and its reactions to the unusual plot twists in the series Game of Thrones producted by HBO. The Audience and its reactions to specifically selected twists were researched through qualitative methods of deep semi-structured interview which was carried out with ten respondents. "Primary" audience, i.e. the viewers who had not read any books from the Ice and Fire saga before watching the show, was choosen as a research sample for this study. Reactions of this audience are more spontaneous and unpredictable. The primary aim of the research is to find out how viewers react to the newly defined paradoxical narrative in the Game of Thrones series and why they keep watching this series despite its unusual plot twists.
Brand engagement on social media: Case study of intercultural raction comparison to commercial media content of Purina brands
Kubínová, Monika ; Zezulková, Markéta (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to understand how the same marketing media content affects audiences of different cultures. Many global brands are managed centrally with unified marketing communication shared across the nations. Content relevance is tested abroad and may not be relevant to all countries where the communication is published. McQuail in his book Introduction to Mass Communication, mentions that different cultures accept the same media content with different effects. I will use a case study for the analysis of intercultural communication of centrally managed brands that will examine the difference in responses of Facebook users to centrally created marketing communication of the Felix and ProPlan brands that belong under the umbrella brand Purina. I divided the case study into two parts, the first part will be devoted to the content analysis of documents, statistics and already existing research from which I formulated research questions. The second part is a semiotic analysis of comments of the Facebook users to the Purina brands that is answering the research questions. The data from the comments shows that the reactivity within the two countries studied differed significantly and depended on the cultural differences defined by Hofstede's cultural comparison. Based on this case study, it...

Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal
Tošnerová, Barbora ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Klíma, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis, titled "Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal", deals with how the Portuguese society has coped with their loss of the last colonies after the democratic revolution in the year 1974. Portugal belonged, along with Spain, to the first colonial powers in Europe and for long time - till the 20th century - the independence of colonies was for many Portuguese people unimaginable. Therefore a lot of them were surprised with the speedy decolonization of these territories after 1974. Investigation of reactions of Portuguese society to this change is based on the analysys of responses of its political and academic communities after the year 1976. Attitudes held by the wider society was demonstrated by the massive support of Portuguese to the former colony of East Timor during Semptember 1999. The approach of politicans is analysed in this work through their speeches during the key' historical moments, which influenced relations between Portugal and its former colonies during the years 1976-1996, as well as through government' programmes and comments in mass media. Analysis of academical discussion is concentrated mainly on the 1990s and present, when the colonial past has became a topic of great interest to many portuguese perits. A new field of academic interest, reffered...

In her work, the student focuses on the objectification of personal perception of a specific conflict situation. She identifies a hurtful feeling that has stuck in her memory and constantly raises questions. With ignorance or unconsciousness of where the edge is and where it is beyond the edge. Describes and seeks mantineles of self-insight capacity. Where does the ability to control begin and end? The author tries to empathize with people who cross her imaginary edges in what is right, and asks herself if they cross their own? The performative placement of tempered glass in the crown of a tree serves for a materialistic grasp of the limits: "what can be carried", "where is the edge", "what is capacity."
The preparation and study of catalytic system Cu(O)-CeO2 using surface analytical methods
Šmíd, Břetislav
Title: The preparation and study of catalytic system Cu(O)-CeO2 using surface analytical methods Author: Břetislav Šmíd Department: Department of Surface and Plasma Science Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: Doc. Mgr. Iva Matolínová, Dr. Abstract: This work is concerned with a study of copper/copper oxide - cerium dioxide systems and their interaction with CO and H2O molecules. Investigated samples were prepared in the form of powder catalysts and also as very well defined model inverse systems. The low temperature CO oxidation powder catalysts were studied by means of XPS, XRD, SEM, TEM and in micro-reactor system allowing the CO oxidation examination. The study of H2O adsorption and co-adsorption of H2O with CO were carried out on model inverse systems CeOx(111)/Cu(111) in ultra-high vacuum conditions using X-ray, synchrotron radiation (SRPES), resonant (RPES) photoelectron spectroscopies and LEED. It was observed on the stoichiometric surface water adsorbs molecularly at 120 K while on the reduced surface and surface of CeO2 islands on Cu(111) the H2O adsorption is partially dissociative with formation of OH groups. The increase of Ce3+ species (i.e. surface reduction) observed after H2O adsorption was explained as an electronic effect of the Ce 4f charge accumulation and Ce 5d charge depletion....
Thermodynamic modelling of hydrogen fuel cells
Nováček, Marek ; Pavelka, Michal (advisor) ; Němec, Tomáš (referee)
In this thesis, proton exchange membrane fuel cells are studied. At the beginning, the ideas underlying their function are exposed and some possibilities of usage are pre- sented. Thereafter, we aim to describe the processes inside the fuel cells with the aid of thermodynamics and in agreement with constitutive relations that have been obtained experimentally. Namely, we are interested in the fluxes of water and protons inside the membrane, where they are acted upon by thermodynamic forces, and the electrochemical reactions at the electrodes, which can be described by the Butler-Volmer equations. Also do we study the efficiency of the fuel cell by evaluating the production of entropy due to the diverse processes that take place in the fuel cell. It is the goal of the computational part of this thesis to propose a zero-dimensional model and compare it with the results provided in the supervisor's doctoral thesis. 1
Presidents at war with media - paralels in media attitude towards presidents in USA and the Czech Republic
Pešková, Iva ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to look for paralels in reactions and attitudes of Czech and American media towards offensive statements of presidents of the Czech Republic and USA with the focus on mainstream media. In a theoretical part of the thesis the role and function of media in liberal democracies are defined. Following part describes an actual media landscapes of USA and the Czech Republic. The main part - research, is based on the description of the media landscapes in both countries and analyzes the media reactions and attitudes towards one specific presidential statement (one by US president Donald Trump, one by Czech president Milos Zeman). Each statement had to be at most critical, attacking the media and had to raise high media response. Media reactions were afterwards analyzed using qualitative content analysis according to the principles of grounded theory. In the conclusion the categories given by the analysis are being compared and analyzed.

Factors influencing customer experience in context of new format retail stores
Brišová, Jana ; Koudelková, Petra (advisor) ; Jesenský, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Factors influencing customer experience in context of new format retail stores" is focused on in-store customer experience phenomenon and on factors companies use in order to influence customers' purchasing behaviour and their decision-making pro- cesses. The theoretical part of the thesis explores, reviews and presents the theory on customer experi- ence, customer experience management, in-store customer experience and customer's internal responses to the marketing stimuli (cognitive, affective and physical) and customer's social interactions with other actors present in the retail store. By conducting a survey in a chosen new format retail store, the empirical part of the bachelor thesis then reviews the situation on the Czech market. It examines reactions, emotions, sensations and attitudes towards the retail shop- ping environment and subsequently analyses whether customer's loyalty is influenced by the character of those reactions.
