Ďurčovič, Martin ; Csanda, Milan (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The research objective of my diploma thesis is to identify and examine the potential of the central zone of the Klokočina housing estate in Nitra City through a spatial study. I work with the urban development concept proposed in the city zoning plan, which I thoroughly analyse and further develop. The main emphasis of the work is on creating a quality public space and promoting socially sustainable ways of future building development. I design new urban spaces and the subsequent urban building structure that shapes the new urban spaces. The proposed spatial study can serve the city of Nitra as a quality reference material for decision-making in the territory and spatial planning, which provides sustainable urban development.
The Ideal City Žilina: Conversion of a former railway yard
Čuláková, Michaela ; Likavčanová, Lenka (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is the territory in Žilina city. It belongs to the Slovakian railways and has until now served as an unused area of the track. The current reconstruction of the railways will create a free area of almost forty-five hectares ready for conversion and new use. After the reconstruction, a railway line passes through the territory. The new use and structure respond to this condition. There will also be a new train stop on the route. The territory is the confluence of three rivers, the Váh, Kysuca, and Rajčianka, which is surrounded by greenery, and it was important to keep this natural character as much as possible. The large area of the territory has the prerequisites for the creation of a new urban district within walking distance of the city center. At the same time, the mix and diversity of land use support shorter walking distances and thus the support of non-motorized transport. An active waterfront, new public spaces, housing and employment opportunities, proximity, and connection of suburban areas have the potential to lighten the existing city center.
THE ISLAND IN OBŘANY - THE AREA OF THE FORMER ESSLER TEXTILE FACTORY
Vítková, Kateřina ; Vlček Ličková, Nina (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to revive the former textile factory complex, which is located on a unique place - on the island between the river Svitava and the race. The main idea is to make the area accessible and to use its potential, focusing primarily on the link of history, identity of the place, quality public space and the functional content of the whole area. The concept of the whole work is the planning in time and the gradual phase of integrating brownfields back into the lives of not only local Brno citizens. The island in Obřany could thus become the heart of this city district, a meeting place with a rich cultural life, a space for relaxation, activities and leisure activities close to nature in a charming environment with a touch of Brno's industrial history.

Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work
Lelkes, Ivana ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.

Čuláková, Michaela ; Ježková, Tereza (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the design of a modern and transparent office building in Brno on the Grain Market. Due to the proximity of the community garden, Špilberk and the incompleteness of the building of the environmental department in Brno, the Institute for the Environment was chosen. The building provides also catering and accommodation for guest collaborators, along with areas for office promotion, which include a lecture hall and a gallery. The shape of the building closes the southern part of the Grain Market and thanks to the vertical garden that forms the facade contributes to improving the microclimate.
