The methods of teaching reading and writing in the 1st year of elementary school with a focus on the study results of pupils

This diploma thesis looks into the used methods of reading and writing in the first grades of elementary school with focus on the outcomes of students' study. In the theoretical field the attention is given to the current concept of teaching the basic reading and writing skills with focus on reading and writing methods, its history, methodology as well as the opinions and comments of the experts. The research itself is by a form of a questionnaire survey aimed on the proportion of the used methods of teaching the initial reading and writing at the elementary schools in Jihlava and its surroundings but also aimed on mapping of the used textbooks within these schools. The research also focuses on the students' outcomes depending on usage of particular methods. The results are analysed and presented by graphs and comments. There also comes the overview of the analysed teaching materials from the Czech publishing houses which are intended for teaching reading and writing in the first grades of elementary school.
Parental considerations and decision-making in the area of postponement of school attendance

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of postponement of school attendance from the perspective of parents. The thesis is divided into three parts - theoretical, methodological and analytical. The theoretical part defines the kindergarten as the first facility that the child and his parents meet. It shows additional activities - speech therapy care, stimulation program, psychological and pedagogical diagnostics. It defines terms such as school readiness, school maturity and delay in school attendance. The last chapter frames the kindergarten from the point of view of the overall system of education in the Czech Republic. In the methodological part, the goal of the research, the research questions are presented. How the data will be interpreted. To obtain them, a semi-structured interview was used with eight parents who either decided to delay school attendance or their child properly entered the first grade. The data is then interpreted in the analytical part. The data is divided into two groups and then compared. TITLE: Verbal communication competences of Roma pupils as a condition for their school success AUTHOR: Mgr. Marie Opálková SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Helena Hejlová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The subject of this dissertation is the school success of Roma pupils at the beginning of primary education and the obstacles that Roma pupils encounter in this period. The aim of the dissertation is to find out how the verbal-communicative competences of Roma pupils are influenced by the communicative language in the family and what influence it has on the pupil's school success. This main objective has been operationalised into individual partial objectives, which correspond in their nature to the linguistic levels of communicative competence and define a specific dimension of the investigation. A qualitative case study approach characterized by a combination of different information gathering techniques was used to process data from Roma pupils. It was mainly observation, interviews and document analysis - namely of the results of the Battery of Tests to determine the status of the linguistic levels of Czech among Roma pupils in the first grade. Adaptation of the pupil in the first class on the school environment

The diploma thesis deals with the mediation of a preview of the development of adaptation during the beginning of school attendance in pupils of the first class by the view of children, parents and teacher. The diploma thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is divided into two chapters. The first chapter deals with the current concept of the first level of basic education and describes the important curricular documents that constitute the White Book and the Framework Educational Program of Basic Education. The second chapter deals with a child initiating school attendance and this breakthrough event is framed in the subchapters describing school maturity and school readiness, school as an impersonal institution, classmates and friends, evaluation and school success, teacher and his / her work, motivation of the pupil, adaptation to the beginning of school attendance, a change of the daily regime, and the family as the inseparable emotional support of the child. The practical part is devoted to qualitative research, which was attended by seven children who have just started their compulsory schooling, their parents and the teacher. In-depth interviewing and qualitative questionnaires are used.
The Problems in Writing of Left-handed Pupils

The thesis "The Problems in Writing of Left-handed Pupils" is focused on the dificulties in the first steps of writing of left-handed children in primary schools. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretic part we deal with the laterality and the left-handness in general. Further we deal with the development of left-handness in the history and nowadays and first of all with the development of motor skills of the left-handed children in the preschool age. The next aim is to chart the difficulties in the preschool period and the potencional problems in writing. The main part of our thesis is focused on the correct methodological help with writing in the first class in primary schools. The other part of our thesis is practical part. In this part we focus on the analysis of the writing edacation for the left-handed pupils in the first classes in the schools in Central Bohemian Region. We studied the quantity of the left-handed boys and the left-handed girls, the correct holding of writing tools, the slope of paper, the slope of letters, the correct sitting, the using of ergonomic tools and the using of pens or pencils.

This diploma thesis deals with teaching a foreign language in Class One at primary school. The theoretical part deals with questions and polemic regarding the acquisition of a foreign language at an early age and examines the advantages and disadvantages of language learning at an early age. Compares the views of experts on this issue and describes the conditions for effective teaching of children. It focuses on the basic methodology for teaching foreign language to small children. It speaks about adequate forms of work at an early age and describes how the language skills can or cannot be developed. The practical part describes and compares the teaching of English language in Class One at a state school and an alternative school based on observation, my own teaching and discourses with teachers.
