Mystification and intertextuality in drama Divadla Járy Cimrmana

1 Abstract In my diploma thesis I deal with the concept of the Jára Cimrman Theater. Using description and explanation, I examine the influence of mystification, fictional worlds, intertextuality, and special effects of the theater comicality up on its success and unwavering popularity among the audience. For this purpose, I work with audiovisual recordings and the book release of all theater plays by the Jára Cimrman Theater. In terms of theoretical research, I use bibliographic resources, among which are texts, articles, studies and publications by Lubomír Doležel, Umberto Eco and other authors whose works are relevant to the topic of my diploma thesis. In the diploma thesis I present an interpretation of theoretical knowledge, opinions, comments and reflections related to the chosen topic. The topic is a subject of broad professional discourse and is theoretically so complex that this diploma thesis cannot contain all the issues and contexts that apply to it. In this regard, I have tried to outline at least some of them and on their basis to elaborate the theme of this diploma thesis.

This Diploma thesis deals with the plays of the Divadlo Járy Cimrmana. I will use description and explanation to examine the influence of mystification, intertextuality and comicality on the success of this Prague theatre. Recordings of the Divadlo Járy Cimrmana performances and the book issues of their plays will be instrumental to this goal. The theory will be largely adopted from B. Brouk, V. Borecký, J. Homoláč, H. Bergeson and L. Dvorský.
Reception of Czech literature in Spain considering the mediating role of German

The objective of the present doctoral thesis is to describe the reception of Czech literature in Spain between 1900 and 2015 with a special emphasis on German as a mediating language for translation between Czech and Spanish, placing Czech research of this phenomenon into a broad international context of investigating the role of languages and cultures in multilingual communities. The thesis further explores issues partially covered by previous research (Uličný 2005, Špirk 2011, 2014, Cuenca 2013). The theoretical part first provides a short historical context of both countries, commenting on their bilateral relations during the 20th century, analysing the publishing sector and describing the official censorship. It then provides a detailed investigation of indirect translations and introduces diverse methods in which they can be explored, highlighting the importance of paratextual material, that is paratexts (Genette 1982, 1987) and metatexts (Popovič 1975, 1983), and the influence of censorship and dominant ideology (Abellán 1980, 1982, 1987; Neuschäfer 1994). Ladislav Fuks: The Duchess and the Art of Cookery - Appearance of Biedermeier?

This thesis is an attempt to interpret the novel of Ladislav Fuks - The duchess and the art of cookery. It is focused on the relationship of its fictional world with culture and with the philosophy of biedermeier. Biedermeier is thought to be a value stream, a harmonizing approach to life, and also a method, which prefers idylls. The analytic source is Gérard Genette's theory of transtextuality, chosen because of Fuks's distinctive intertextuality of his work.
Seriality in Czech and Slovak Comics Narration. Genres -Models - Worlds

The PhD thesis Seriality in Czech and Slovak Comics Narration. Genres - Models - Worlds intends to deepen our understanding of the historically most prevalent serial form (as in "form of organization") of comics' texts, which phenomenon is here described and further studied building upon the material base of the Czechoslovak comics of the 20th century. At the same time, this seriality is considered here as both the topic of research and its main analytical tool, since the thesis aims to advance our knowledge of history of local comics, as well as to propose seriality-related theoretical tools and concepts. On the historical and interpretative level, the Czechoslovak tradition of comics is conceptualized through its dominant publication-presentation types (comics being presented in the periodicals context) of episodic segments with their strictly limited space/page allowance, with focus on formats and models of periodicity, as well as on genre and composition related topics. Further chapters are dedicated to specific sub-categories of comics narratives (either format-based - comic strip, or genre-oriented - funny animal comics). A case of an "authentic" novel

This study presents first of all a theoretical argument, showing that all “authentic” literature is actually based on a double game of images. While the fictional images seemingly refer to the actual world, they can actually refer only to the so-called emblems. (These emblems are shared images, created in the public consciousness by various non-fictional texts and pieces of information, and there they represent actually existing persons, texts, events, etc.) The second part of the study draws comparisons between two specific cases of an “authentic” novel, namely The Armies of the Night (1968) by Norman Mailer and Rok kohouta (The year of the Rooster, 2008) by Tereza Boučková, paying special attention to the latter. It appears that while Mailer’s “authentic” novel behaves as an intertextual one, Boučková’s work functions – especially with respect to the informational emblems – as a “hypertext”.
