The BanalFatal program in spinal cord injury prevention.
Pokorný, Václav ; Vařeková, Jitka (advisor) ; Půlpán, David (referee)
Title: The BanalFatal program in spinal cord injury prevention Objectives: The main objective of this diploma thesis is to examine the subjective impressions of participants after the completion of this program (lesson) so that it is possible to assess the emotional impact of the program and its impact on the further behavior of children. Methods: A quantitative strategy was used for the research part of the thesis. For the purposes of the research, two original questionnaires were created. 6 primary schools were contacted, in which the BanalFatal program previously took place. The questionnaire, aimed at school prevention methodologists, was filled in by all addressed school staff, but only in 4 school facilities, it was possible to interview school pupils. Thus, 6 school prevention methodologists and 164 pupils from 4 selected primary schools (Prague 11, 4, Litoměřice, Dačice) were interviewed. The questionnaire for prevention methodologists contains closed, semi-closed, and open questions. The questionnaire for pupils was created in the form of a survey and contained only closed questions. Results: All school methodologists presume that attending the BanalFatal lecture will have a certain effect on students' change in behavior during risky activities. "Certainly yes" was stated by 1 and "rather...

Title: Stimulation of strength skills through intervation gymnastic program for people with spinal cord impairment Objectives: The target of the work is to determine the degree of effectiveness of the newly created gymnastic program mediated to probands online, to the level of strength of the upper body and upper limbs of people with spinal cord injury. Methods: The research will be conducted in the form of a quasi-experiment with pre- testing and post-testing measuring. Used data collection methods included field testing, timed 100m dash in a wheelchair and 2kg weight throw and a questionaire. Analysis of found data has been done via descriptive statistics. Results: Results of post-testing showed that upon completion of a six-week interventional program, individuals with spinal cord impairment increased their strength levels in field tests. In the first field test, there was a slight percentage improvement of 5.9%. In the second field test, there was an overall mean percentage improvement of 10.9%. On average, probands improved by 8.4%, a slight to moderate improvement. The questionaires also showed that the trainees enjoyed the provided program. Case study of use of a motorized exoskeleton as an orthotic aid in the case of post-traumatic paraplegia
Herrmann, Norbert ; Neuwirthová, Svatava (advisor) ; Pavlů, Dagmar (referee)
Title: Case study of use of a motorized exoskeleton as an orthotic aid in the case of post-traumatic paraplegia. Objectives: Assessment of the effectiveness of using a motorized orthosis to improve motor functions of a patient diagnosed with paraplegia due to a spinal cord injury. Methods: The theoretical part introduces the issue of post-traumatic spinal cord injury and related paraplegia and follows a description of the function of the motorized exoskeleton (and comparable devices) as an orthotic device. The practical part describes the case of a patient with post-traumatic paraplegia of the lower limbs, which includes anamnesis, diagnosis, planned therapies and especially the course of the therapy with the exoskeleton, including its settings, application, walking training and data collection. Results: There was a remarkable progress in the patient's gait achievement during the therapy with the use of the exoskeleton. These advances were based on the data recorded by the software during the individual therapies with the exoskeleton. In addition to gait therapy with an exoskeleton, the patient underwent other supportive therapies, leading to an overall significant improvement in the patient's physical condition and motor skills. After completing the prescribed therapies with the exoskeleton, the...

Title Case Study of Physiotherapy Treatment of a Patient with Paraparesis Aim of the thesis The theoretical part brings general outlook and detailed information about diagnose of spinal cord injury. Practical part overviews a study case of a patient with traumatic spinal cord injury resulting in paraparesis. The study includes outcome and effect of the applied therapy. Method The protocol is based on two weeks therapeutical plan that was based on initial kinesiological examination. Therapy included maximal number of most appropriate techniques to reach maximal result of improvement. Result After two weeks of intensive rehabilitation patient showed a signs of improvement. Nevertheless, patient is 10 months after injury with slow progress of improvement. Two weeks is short time for significant improvement. Author: Bc. Pavlikhina Ekaterina Title: Influence of the posture's change on respiratory function in spinal cord injury patients. Objectives: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze change in respiratory function on change of posture in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Another objective is to compare the respiratory functions in a health subjects and in a SCI patients. Last but not least is an effort to find out whether SCI patients have a pattern of restrictive pulmonary dysfunction. The findings can help understanding development of respiratory complications after spinal cord injury. It may help in choosing optimal position during respiratory examination and respiratory rehabilitation. Methods: In theoretical part, there were explored the available knowledges about respiratory complications and their effects on posture. In practical part, there were 26 subjects - 16 patients with SCI and 10 healthy subjects. Subjects with SCI were divided into two groups - one with paraplegia and other one with quadriplegia. Measurements were performed with spirometer on each subject during supine, sitting and standing postures. There were collected vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1) data from all subjects. All data were processed in...

The Consequences of an Inappropriate Transfer of People with Paraplegia from the Viewpoint of Occupational Therapists with the Focus on the Shoulder Joint. Subtitle:The Appropriate Way of Transfer of People with Paraplegia
Šťastná, Klára ; Hradilová, Iva (advisor) ; Rybářová, Kateřina (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on consequences caused by the inappropriate transfer of a paraplegic from the viewpoint of occupational therapy. The work is focused on the pain of the shoulder girdle, mainly due to overloading during repeated everyday transfers of paraplegics. The theoretical part summarises the findings of the SCI and the spinal cord program. It also provides a description of the strategies of some transfers, together with their evaluation and inappropriate implementation. The theoretical part is widely devoted to the assessment of painful upper limbs and the consequences of an inappropriate transfer such as pain, impingement syndrome or a lost of self-sufficiency. The practical part is based on quantitative research and works with the research question: "What are the main factors influencing the pain in the shoulder of some paraplegics?". The aim of this study is to find whether transfers are one of the major causes of the pain in the shoulder. The other aim is to translate the assessment toll for the painful shoulder and to use it in achieving the first aim. The document required for this is called "The Wheelchair User's Shoulder Pain Index" and has not yet been translated into the Czech language. In order to avoid misunderstanding or the loss of any relevant cultural and...
